Great trip. Just good to get out. I've had my horse go for a "walk" before!! Grain in a can, can get them coming back. I say a good sleeping bag and you can enjoy the period stuff better. I'm sitting in my hut, in my sleeping bag, making coffee on the one burner @25 d/F , watching you do the same thing!! Awesome.

As many wool blankets as i can bring its always miserable. I used to bring 4 which is alot would still be miserable. One camping trip years ago i brought a sleeping bag because i had nothing to hold all my blankets. Slept like a baby every night. Every time i go camping witu my friend, im always getting 1-2 hours of sleep compared to him sleeping all night in his bag. And what sucks is the blankets are definitely warmer but the little sleeping bag does so much better
Yeah it’s frustrating, but I looking forward to my next trip more than usual.

Awesome video! For the shoulder seasons when it’s cold I think using some modern comfort items to still get outside is worth it. I believe your horse is missing being around other horses, and that’s why she was wanting to follow the elk, she’s quite keyed up watching something in the distance, and not in a “predator?” look. I’m thinking she will be less inclined to wander once you add another riding horse to keep her company.

Hobbles are handy. If youre by yourself tie and hobble. Beats walking

You could always make you a fart sack Is kinda a civil war thing you take a gum blanket and blankets and hemp or grass string and make an improvised bedroll pretty handy actually and light weight just thought Id help

Great overnighter and great setup. Nothing like early morning cardio lol. Could the cold you were feeling be caused by not enough ground insulation? You had a lot of blankets. I know I've not used enough ground insulation and froze by a** off even though I had a sleeping bag that was good for at least 20' colder.

Yes it was inadequate ground insulation. It’s just that I’m always surprised the amount of wool blankets I use don’t do the trick. And the leaves as well if I remember right.

These boots are from C&C Sutlery. They have a website, unfortunately they aren’t a very accurate repro, they’re the wrong style. But they’re relatively inexpensive and mostly give the right look.

I think it did. It’s hard to tell, I’m wishing I’d measured it before so I could compare it to after.

Thank you, I got that pair from C&C Sutlery, their website is easy to find if you google it.
They’re not the most historically accurate though, I didn’t know that at the time.
A good pair is around $300. Mine are $150 or $160 these days.

Brother, where did you get your tarp? What size is it. You set-up a very nice tent.
That’s a 12x16 drop cloth that I boiled to shrink. It still needs treating to be waterproofed but I’m liking it. Also a grommet tool would put some nice tie downs in.

They’re from C&C Sutlery. They’re not made correctly but they’re priced lower than the good ones.
@@OverOnTheWildSide the wide square toe is actually wide and looks like they don't cramp your toes like most so called wide square toe boots. I've been looking for a pair that are actually wide and square without the inward taper in the front.

If you lived your whole life like that, you could probably handle just blankets, but few of us do, so get something warmer. I’m sure plenty of people who were able to used stuff like buffalo furs, or other types of pelts.
Now I’m taking that as a challenge haha!

@@OverOnTheWildSide It’s tough to do when comfort is just inside that door. And from what I see, youre residence isn’t exactly too far off from what the average person would have had. It’s not like everyone back then lived outside. People that drove cattle would have been pretty dam tough, but most would have had a cabin with a woodfire
