Japan were the original duran duran- they were before their time but were big in the actual country of Japan - this is where all this sound and looks comes from- but i think both bands had similar influences as well. @@lynnschnekenburger7270
wow! john's bassline here is even more awesome than on the studio version and succeeding concerts! at 21 years old! been playing it for only a few years! if that's not genius, I dont know what is! just wow!
Simon’s voice is amazing, but he also seems to get excellent backing vocals from Andy and John. These guys were incredibly talented musicians to write their own material and put it together so superbly. Nearly 40 years later and their songs sound current. I wouldn’t change a thing.
For an actual 'live' performance DD's musicianship is insanely tight; Roger's distinctly underrated percussion and John's creative, dynamic driving basslines working together like an RR engine. What a pity the audience weren't able to muster sufficient enthusiasm to lift their backsides off their chairs.
You're forgetting during what era this was filmed: the eighties and during the eighties Cameras were these HUGE contraptions, so in order to film this they needed to have every piece of real estate available, so the audience were told to stay put otherwise they'd get in the way. It's not that the crowd wasn't bothered to go along with the flow, they were forbidden to.
Hello: 1981, cameras were these HUGE things and needed every single spot available to film, the crowd were told that they had to stay in their place so the cameras were free to move around.
First time as a 15 year old in Australia, I saw the video on Countdown for debut single PLANET EARTH and that infectious bass line , the whole package that was Duran Duran , I was in for the ride. Truly amazing , innovative, and unique sounding band for their era.
They were from the start so so so set on success from day 1. I knew John as a kid he lived 3 doors down from me in simon rd hollywood. He was so quiet and shy then, his dad was always working on their house . John played too many records in his room . But hard to belive how far the boy from Simon Rd went .... Star always love DD
Wow! That’s crazy how far he’s come! Were you into music too? Lucky all you Brits had such an incredible music scene growing up! We were years behind in the US. I didn’t discover the Sex Pistols TIL 1985... only because of Duran’s influence. Was he a nice kid?
I am still amazed by the quality of DD performances from the very early years up to nowadays. Definitely a great great band. And my absolute number one ever.
Didn't matter. Just three short years later, they're playing sold out arenas across America and the money is falling out of the sky. Search "As The Lights Go Down," and you will see what I mean.
Wow. An actual live performance of this song in 81?? That's incredible. They sounded really good live too, even back then. This song wouldn't be the easiest to get sounding right live either.
Man, I really miss Andy's energy. No offense to Dom Brown, but I really wish Andy had stuck it out. Seriously raw energy. Very underrated band as far as their musicianship.
3:09 - Simon looks like he's singing to a baby. LOL, too cute. Love this vid and the others in this series. Great quality, great early live performance. Thanks a ton for uploading!
Todos eran unos muñequitos!!! Sobre todo este: 0:583:01 cuando lo observo hasta me evoca el aroma que desprenden los muñequitos nuevos cuando se sacan de las cajas!!! Mmmcosssita más bella!!!
I have been into Duran Duran since I was about 6. Unfortunately, I missed a show of theirs yesterday in Menlo Park, California because tickets were $500-$1000 each. I was very disappointed that I couldn't be there to enjoy my favorite band.
Now this is how I remember DD when I saw the final line up in a wine bar just off John Bright street in Brum. Never forgot how great Andy held the band together in those early days something that was lost later on as other members got more confident. To this day I believe DD would have never survived as we know them today without Andy at the time putting so much energy into the band, great find.
See them walking hand in hand Across the bridge at midnight Heads turning as the lights flashing out Are so bright And walk right out to the four line track There's a camera rolling on her back On her back And I sense a rhythm humming in a frenzy All the way down her spine Girls on film Girls on film Girls on film Girls on film Lipstick cherry all over the lens as she's falling And miles of sharp blue water coming in Where she lies The diving man's coming up for air 'Cause the crowd all love pulling dolly by the hair By the hair And she wonders how she ever got here As she goes under again Girls on film (two minutes later) Girls on film Girls on film (got your picture) Girls on film Wider, baby, smile and you've just made a million Fuses pumping live heat twisting out on a wire Take one last glimpse into the night I'm touching close I'm holding bright Holding tight Give me shudders in a whisper Take me up 'til I'm shooting a star Girls on film (she's more than a lady) Girls on film Girls on film (two minutes later) Girls on film Girls on film (see you together) Girls on film Girls on film (see you later) Girls on film

It almost impossible to believe a band could have the greatest looks, fashion, musical talent and great songs. How in th was this possible?
Guessing you never heard of Japan. Before Duran. Amazing band
@@lynnschnekenburger7270
Utterly fantastic band if I may say so myself.

It's possible! They are Duran Duran ,they are story ,passion!
wow! john's bassline here is even more awesome than on the studio version and succeeding concerts! at 21 years old! been playing it for only a few years! if that's not genius, I dont know what is! just wow!
Exactly. Genius!!!
That bass line is amazing 😍😍
Some people are just born rock stars, this group spawned at least 2 :o) The best of British in the early eighties for sure !!!!
My band is ❤❤❤

Mostly Andy
Roger Taylor....sigh...😍. So devastatingly handsome. What a babe. Always loved his classic style.
Love the way he plays those 16th note hi-hats~~~~~~~
SUCH a total Babe! ust melts me
I always loved Andy. Roger was my 2nd favorite :) No offense to Simon, John and Nick, but I never liked pretty boys. 😆
That bass is funky as hell...one of the songs that got me playing bass 💜
John Taylor playing on this song shaped my bass playing style from the day I heard them on SNL in 1983.. Just fantastic.

Simons voice really make all the diference.
Simon bouncing, John being a bass god, Nick being his standard weird cool self.....priceless.
John Taylor absolute magician on bass.👌
proper live performance...crowd not going for it....? dont know how lucky they were to be there!!
Hello: 1981, cameras were these HUGE things and needed every single spot available to film, the crowd were told that they had to stay in their place so the cameras were free to move around.
OMG: SUPER-tight rhythm section(John+Roger), SUPER-gorgeous looks of the original Fab 5......
First time as a 15 year old in Australia, I saw the video on Countdown for debut single PLANET EARTH and that infectious bass line , the whole package that was Duran Duran , I was in for the ride.
Truly amazing , innovative, and unique sounding band for their era.
Roger es el rey de la batería que fuerza fantástica para tocarla 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I also got goosebumps..first time I heard this back then turned me into Duran Duran junkie...then they pumped out hit after hit!!!
IMHO every track from Duran Duran's first three albums could be released as hit singles~~~~~~~
They were from the start so so so set on success from day 1. I knew John as a kid he lived 3 doors down from me in simon rd hollywood. Good lord what a performance. This is DD at the very height of their sonic power!
2 years after this live performance, I heard this band for the first time in France and 41 years after, I still listen to them as a French Fan !!
They were a tight band live right from the start. And damn John's chops on bass rivals Flea.
Dolts in the crowd..... seeing an emerging band on the cusp of greatness... sitting their like they're at the opera.
Im a teen boy and i love Duran Duran AND i have a very great music taste! Greetings from Mexico!🤗
Everyone seems to be quite involved on stage except Nick!
Awesome drumming there, Roger!
Tough crowd. ^^
Yeah really if I could go back to these times and be there when duran duran was in there prime I would be dancing on the table
Didn't matter. Just three short years later, they're playing sold out arenas across America and the money is falling out of the sky. Search "As The Lights Go Down," and you will see what I mean.
I would have thought if I was a band member, man we must suck balls, lol
Look at Andy 😍😍😍😍 his way of play the guitar, his hair, his voice, IS SO BEAUTIFUL I CAN'T 🔥🔥🔥🔥

La batería es increíble en esta canción, qué gusto da verlos y oírlos cantar en directo 🎶🎵🤩
I am jealous of people who were old enough to be their fans back then in '81😭 I was born only 14 years later😌
It was awesome being a kid in the 80s. I had Duran Duran all over my walls and I owned every album they made.
Doesn't get better than this!! Got goosebumps! Thanks for sharing :D

Lipstick cherry all over the lens as she's falling
And miles of sharp blue water coming in
Where she lies
The diving man's coming up for air
'Cause the crowd all love pulling dolly by the hair
By the hair
And she wonders how she ever got here
As she goes under again
Girls on film (two minutes later)
Girls on film
Girls on film (got your picture)
Girls on film
Wider, baby, smile and you've just made a million
Fuses pumping live heat twisting out on a wire
Take one last glimpse into the night
I'm touching close
I'm holding bright
Holding tight
Give me shudders in a whisper
Take me up 'til I'm shooting a star
Girls on film (she's more than a lady)
Girls on film
Girls on film (two minutes later)
Girls on film
Girls on film (see you together)
