Victron VRM Solar Data - Online Overview

  • In this video I'm showing the Victron VRM online solar data system that we are using with our Victron gear at the cabin. Using a CERBO GX all of our devices upload massive amounts of data and statistics into the Victron VRM cloud system.
This give us really powerful access to understand what the system is doing, where its having issues, and maybe where expansion could be made. It also provides us proactive alerting of issues with in the system.
This is a rough over-view of our setup. I'm sure there's more to learn here and we will share it as we find it!
Also at the beginning see one of our Bull Elk chasing the females and bugling his boss cries!

Amazing content can't wait to see when you install the wind turbines. I am planning a similar set-up myself although we have on-grid available.

Thanks! I can't wait to get working on those turbines too, I'm really hoping to get to it next. We just finished insulating the inside of the building so now the wood stove can keep it warm in the winter (next video coming on that) so we can work on things in the off season finally! Would love to see what you end up doing on your solar, especially with connecting it to a grid! Thanks for watching and commenting

@@SeamrógCreek yeah we are having an old house build in Eastern Europe with and old brick wooden stove which is in the middle of repair, I plan to install the solar in spring when we finish all the internal renovation and replace the old asbestos cement slate roof. We have a lot of companies that build solutions of on-grid systems, and we have the opportunity to sell the extra to the grid on systems on up to 15 kWh.

There’s an amazing amount of data that gets generated. Very nerdy but very cool!

Victron's site should have such a well done complete video.

Good stuff here, just came across your channel this morning. I'm beginning to change over to Victron components now.
Soon I'll looking to add wind power. The control panel looks pretty cool, where you
can view your system on a pc. I'll be striving to have a setup similar. Also, I'll
be looking to install home weather station for under $200 to monitor wind conditions
    and history.

Thanks for watching! I think you will love the Victron gear, it really is superior quality, and has so many great features when you get devices working together. I'm hoping to get our first wind install this spring too, finally! So many projects, so little time. 😂
I've owned a number of weather stations over the decades and my favorite are made by Davis, but they are expensive, I only have one, its a VantagePro2 and at our main home, but a friend of mine @jesutherland pointed me at the one I put in at Seamróg Creek which is an Ambient Weather Falcon WS-8480 and it works really well and is much more affordable. They have a number of stations in all prices ranges, so you might to check them out when you get ready to buy see if you like them.

With the future wind turbines, once you connect the wind turbine to the wind turbine charge controller are you then connecting it to dump into the batteries? If so, is there any issues with the communication of the pv charge controller and the wind turbine charge controller? I'm guessing they just stop charging at a specific voltage.

    • @SeamrógCreek
      @SeamrógCreek  Před rokem +1

Ya, this is the part I need to work though. The Nindaly wind turbine has a dump load inside it so it supposedly doesn't need an external load for when the charger says "no more!" and the power has to go somewhere. The other turbine I have, does not, so I need to look at that. On the Solar system, the Wind Turbine controllers aren't super smart like the Victron stuff, they will definitely stop charging when things get "fully charged" (not sure what that means yet) ... but they have no idea what everything else is doing (or that it exists). The Victron stuff is definitely smart enough to handle the charging and "not charging" of the batteries, so my hope is that the wind controller will only put in charge until (as you said) a specific voltage is reached and will then dump the load into the dummy load. I'm not looking for awesome efficiency here yet, just to see it work at all. Mostly when solar is low.
I definitely need to experiment with this part. I think the turbine itself is the easy part, it will be managing the charging in a good way that may require a different controller, if these can't do what i want. I really wish Victron would make a Wind Controller!! I'm really hoping to get to the wind stuff this spring, I'll be sure to do some videos on what I'm trying and what does/doesn't work.
      Thanks for watching!

You may consider checking out "Missouri Wind and Solar" for a charge controller. They make their own turbines and charge controllers for a reasonable price. Can't wait to see how yours works out. I'm hoping to add a turbine to an all in one pv setup soon myself.

What happened to your wind turbines? I’m eager to hear of your experiences, especially how you combine wind and solar using Victron controllers.

They are still on the list! Both of them are sitting and waiting for me in the storage container.
Its been frustrating not being able to get back to them as quickly as we wanted. We had a lot of things happening this summer that were unexpected so we've had to really prioritize getting certain things done before winter. They are high on my list as I'm super anxious to get them working. I promise to do videos on them when we do.
Now that the building is heated we can be up there in the colder/wetter months so it will be easier to get back to this type of project and not have to wait.
