Love this type of video, Nick. Whenever I play with the 911 configurator I don't necessarily feel like I'm always understanding the various options and their value for money. This lays it out plainly. Along with the amusing commentary on which options are BS and which are not. Would love to see more of these if your time and access to new vehicles permit.

The easy answer is that none of them are value for the money. Not possible when the name Porsche is involved. Can only be about the experience and desire.

@@details78 I walk into a Porsche dealership and I assume the same attitude as when I walk into Disney with my family. I know there is not going to be any type of deal or value for what I am about to spend. I know I will be continuously bent over a barrel and money hoovered away. But you can't duplicate either experience. They are the only ones that have what they sell and you either pay up or don't go. It is much more enjoyable when you aren't fretting over the $10 popcorn or $3,000 sunroof and focus on the products.

Love your videos Nick. Picked up my 992 4 GTS convertible in December and it is amazing. Surprised how different it feels to the 991.2 I had before. Went for tge GTS because by the time I had specced up a 4S it was almost the same price, but GTS has a few extras as standard, such as the sport design package and not forgetting the few extra HP! I really like the Targa, but what puts me off is that you can't raise and lower the roof when driving. It is amazing how often I have done this in the convertible, especially with the unpredictable UK weather, and pulling over on a country lane, or even on a motorway is not always easy!

    Hi Nick,
Another use for the front axil lift is that it makes it easier to get out of the car. For example, a person with an injury or arthritis would appreciate the extra height when exiting the car. Plus, I really hate that sound when you drag the front of the car over a speed bump or the concrete at the end of a parking space.
I have always really liked the Targa 911's. And although I don't hate the convertibles. Given the choice, I would pick the Targa. But given my personality, I would probably end up with a coupe with a sunroof.

This car reminds me of my Oak Green 992 C4S. I had a hard time not checking configurator boxes and wound up with a similarly bonkers options list. I plan on keeping the car for years and I don't want to regret anything so I went with my heart and spec'd it just how I wanted, without a concern for resale. Here's my theory on GTS models. Porsche makes all their non-GTS press cars full-fat models that end up rather heavy, and then all the GTS press cars ship with the GTS exclusive lightweight options. So, the journalists aren't necessarily _wrong_ when they say there's a huge difference between the GTS and the S, but that difference is largely due to the options that were selected. There's probably over 100lb difference just from the 18-way heated and ventilated seats vs the fixed carbon seats.

I’m one of the lucky ones to take delivery of one of these beautiful manual targa 4S’s last summer. Mine isn’t quite as expensive, but super nicely appointed, and I would argue better looking than this one here. I went with dolomite silver metallic exterior and burgundy red/black full leather interior with carbon fiber trim. Definitely a dream car! If I can recommend anything is please get the front axle lift, it’s a must!

@@TheChannel1978 because otherwise you scrape the bottom almost every time you get out of even a slightly inclined driveway. The axle lift works great and even remembers the GPS coordinates so that next time it lifts automatically. You can probably maneuver the angle to avoid this, but it’s not always possible.

Porsche has wind buffering aced. Boxster top down 80mph in Mexico and my chapeau stays on. I really like the look of the Targa in DBM. 10k for no brake dust seems such a small price to pay.

In my opinion there are alot of optional extras that should be standard on a car of this caliber, for example, Power folding mirrors, power steering coloum, puddle lights, ventilated seats (if 18 way seat optioned), Porsche crest on seat headrest maybe even on the armrest, and leather covered steering column. For a starting price of $137,000 and options inevitable, these should be standard equipment.

The only fatal flaw in this build is the lack of personalized door sills. Oh, and leather air vent slats. Other than these items, perfect.

Hi Nick, I recently purchased a '15 Panamera GTS which comes with sports chrono.
I gotta tell you that the V8, launch control + exhaust note is enchanting and unfortunately a dying feature on sports cars.
imagine if porsche threw their v8 twin turbo in the in the 911 before going fully electric. that would be pretty cool.

Love the details, but for me the wood trim would have elevated the car so much!! But that might just be, blue with brown looks amazing!!

We all have different taste. I'm not convinced wood looks good in a sports car of this vintage and calibre. I'm not a fan of carbon fibre trim either. Waste of money and is often overdone. I'm good with leather and minimal amounts of brushed metal trim.

Nick, is the 400lb weight increase as compared with a 2WD hardtop? I was thinking that the 4WD system must account for a decent chunk of the difference if so, and that all of this extra weight is low down...

  • @brianiswrong

No sure alot of the extra weight is up top, well not 400lbs anyway
I suspect it has a few more bracing rails on the chassis, a bit on the roof and rollover " hoop" and I bet the rear glass is heavy, I also guess the motor arms and hinges are heavy duty.
