    Browning has been making straight pull bolts in most of their bolt rifles for the European markets. 7
    Reloading is so much faster. The Maral .308 is one example.

  • @Strutingeagle
    @Strutingeagle Před 7 lety +2

    Yes the trigger guard should be made of steel. Everything else is of high quality walnut and polished steel so it seems odd to slap on a plastic part like that. Especially considering the cost of the rifle. How does Zastava make a rifle that costs less than half the T bolt and yet has better finish and all steel parts? Somone is trying to make money where they shouldn't be fiddling.

  • @Strutingeagle
    @Strutingeagle Před 6 lety

    That is a cracking little rifle you have there mate. I am particularly partial to the Browning line of firearms and it was wonderful watching you bang away with the T bolt.

    That's a really nice gun, wish it was more popular in the U.S. so I can see one in person if I was looking to buy one. Unfortunately I probably would need to order it if I wanted one. Would love to compare it to a CZ.

      The triggers not great out if the box at around 3.5lbs but I have since fitted a jard trigger with 1.2lbs and it’s a joy to shoot.

    Yep! As a Browning riffles fan i totally agree with you! Those guns are awesome... I have a 222 A-Bolt Composite Stalker and also a 243 X-Bolt with a GRS Stock! It Rocks!!!

      I have to admit I went with a Tikka for my big bore rifle in the end but the X bolt was on the list!

    I never use lead ammo. It's very difficult to clean out. Use copper plated or copper jacketed bullets very easy to clean with good solvent.

      +Edward Peterson Yeah they are a bit pricey, I don't need more than two though.

  • @JustAnotherGuy341

    I'm happy I've gone with the synthetic body because it has the spare mag in the stock which I don't think the wood one does. I'm excited to go pick it up in a few days since my PTA just arrived. Already got some hollow points and lead bullets in the safe and waiting. Hopefully find some foxes and rabbits on my grandads farm.

    • @srspower
      @srspower  Před 8 lety

      No the wood one doesn't come with a spare mag, I bought a spare separately and it wasn't cheap at about £50. But I have to say the wood is pretty! If you're going after foxes then try out the Winchester 42 grain subsonics, they are made for the job ;)

    • @JustAnotherGuy341
      @JustAnotherGuy341 Před 8 lety +3

      +srspower yeah we got the winchesters so I'm keen to give them a try. I must say the wood is a nice look but in saying that they only had the synthetic one at the shop but I like it. Might go get it painted I'd heard of someone who does a really good job nearby.

  • @MasterOfNothing83

    I am looking at trading in my BRNO mod 2 for a new 22. I'm either looking for a T-bolt (which will match my X-bolt), or a 10/22. What are your thoughts after having the T-bolt for a while now?

    • @srspower
      @srspower  Před 7 lety +1

      it's excellent except the trigger won't go below about 3.5lbs and it being very light can take some getting used to. For me once I have a camera attached to it it's the perfect weight. Either way a LOT more accurate than a 1022.

    Beautiful Gun. I'd like to have one. I've seen one in .22 wmr, which is what I'd prefer, being as I already have a few .22lr weapons. OTOH, I'd also like one of the Henry's, and they're less money. Decisions...

      ***** We had to be trained with several types of firearms during our probation. Muzzle loaders were a recent inclusion because there had been discussion about new shooters having to pass a test to be allowed to use them on the range due to potential for explosions etc.

    Is there a .22lr shortage in the U.K.? I'm curious because it's pretty difficult to get a hold of .22 ammo in the states. I think a lot of new gun owners bought AR-15's with .22 conversion kits, and are hoarding all of the ammo; but that's just speculation on my part.

    • @srspower
      @srspower  Před 9 lety

      Well ELEY HP Subsonics, which are very popular, have been hard to come across lately. But generally speaking no issues at all.

  • @leboucdetrambly
    @leboucdetrambly Před 9 lety +1

    I thought about buying this. It looked good, was light and had a neat system with straight pull and that magazine. The reports I heard though was the trigger was horrible and there is no way of fixing it or any drop in replacements. That put me off but I still think about it. Not that I need any more 22LRs - I wouldn't buy a 17HMR version as I can reload 223 for the same price as 17HMRs and 223's are just a bit better. Hope the set-up is working well for you.
    Those UK gun rules are enough to make one move to another country - which is what I did as I love my pistol shooting too much. I hear the UK have their eyes on banning semi-autos next - even 22LR`s.

    • @srspower
      @srspower  Před 9 lety

      +leboucdetrambly Yeah I must admit in hindsight I wish I had laid down a bit more money and just bought and anschutz as the trigger does let this rifle down. But you can fix it, so I have been told, you just need a good gunsmith to polish the sear. A guy on the pigeonwatch forums has one in .17hmr and reckons his is now about 2.5lbs which is pretty good. I'm not mad on it being single stage either though! At the moment its like clicking a heavy mouse button. But you can overcome it, yesterday i was getting smaller than 5 pence groups at 25 metres and I did manage to shoot a rabbit at 70 metres with it. Just takes practise I guess. The laws here do suck, semi auto centre fire has been banned since the 1980's and pistols since the late 90's. But you can still have .22lr in semi auto and my friend has a 'long barreled revolver' which is legally a 'carbine rifle' so its basically a Taurus model 66 with a 12" barrel and an arm rest. Good fun to shoot in .44 magnum the size takes out a lot of recoil. Thanks for watching :)

    • @leboucdetrambly
      @leboucdetrambly Před 9 lety +1

      Thanks for the reply. It's good to get a honest reply. So many people won't tell the whole story about their rifle/pistol.
      I was hanging off hoping that either Browning would make a better trigger or someone would make an aftermarket drop in trigger. On the subject of Anschutz: I looked over a few different models, yes their triggers are great but the wooden stocks look rubbish and for the price they are asking they are overpriced. The T Bolt offers much better value at the price - I think you made a good choice even with that one annoying issue.
      I went for a Sako Quad after a lot of deciding. I chose the Hunter deluxe version. The trigger was already good but by changing a spring it was super smooth - probably too light for hunting, but I like it. The stock is excellent and the metal finish great. I changed the bolt for a better metal one and the trigger guard for an metal one. The rifle is as accurate as a 22LR can be. As always the variable rimfire ammo limits the ultimate result. A bench rest will produce 5-10 pence groups at 50m. I run mine with an ASE Ultra sound mod ( give them a look) - very happy with the results. I have a few other mods but that one is the best. I use CCI standard they are already subsonic in speed and are cheaper than brands that are marked subsonic.
      I see sound moderators are a bit cheaper in the UK - what are the rules on buying one these days? Can you for example buy one that states it is for rimfire/airgun use and then say it is for an airgun?
      I wasn't interested in the ability to change barrels on the Sako, just wanted a decent 22LR. My other 22LRs are - Marlin 39A, S&W MP15-22 Semi auto, Winchester 9422 (just bought and the guy has posted it to my girlfriend so I'll see it when I get back) and a Unique V49 semi-auto - a rare French made rifle, no longer made.
      For my pistol shooting I stick to 9mm as it's easy to reload and hence cheaper. The rule over here is no more than 12 pistols or semi autos (any calibre). For the other rifles/shotguns there is no limit. If I need more my girlfriend will just get some and that will cover all the bases.
      I shoot in France - European wild boar and deer where I live. Unfortunately the rabbit population is zero - between disease and buzzards there are none to be had. When I lived in Scotland I shot loads of rabbits :-) it's a great sport with a 22LR. The French see 22LRs as just too puny to shoot anything and I can't convince them that shooting crows and rabbits with a 22LR is effective and cheap.
      Every country has its stupid, unnecessary rules. In France you can't hunt with a sound mod, nor at night. You can't use a semi auto if it has more than 3 shots. Of course the overall picture is I'm in one of the better countries in Europe for keen shooters.
      I see that people in Scotland will soon need to be vetted and have a licence just for a puny airgun - the whole situation of shooter persecution has gone crazy and is so unnecessary. Read this article and try to stay calm www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2015/09/10/hand-over-your-guns-says-chief-inspector
      Happy shooting,
      Regards
      Mark

      As it happens I am going wildfowling in France at Christmas. I have family there and I have been invited by my cousin as well as this other guy. Trouble is my french is non existent! I will need a dictionary. Silencers are a funny thing in the UK. For an airgun anyone over 18 can buy one and as they are cut for a 1.2" UNF thread they will fit and work on a .22lr. But if you did that you'd be breaking the law! For a silencer to fit to a section 1 rifle you need it as a slot on your license. Strangley a silencer counts as a firearm and so has to be in the cabinet etc. I use a 'wildcat whisper' on my t bolt. Very good quality, they normally retail at £160 but I got mine for £60 because the shop couldn't figure out whether it was a trade in or new!

    • @leboucdetrambly
      @leboucdetrambly Před 9 lety +1

      +srspower Don't worry about the language. When I first moved here I was a total non-speaker. I was a reluctant learner at 40 years old. Years later and with my French girlfriend and children the days of fear are behind me.
      I wish the French could get over the problem with the sound mod and hunting. I will try to write a letter and get some support. I might try the hearing damage angle.
      Now that is interesting with the sound mods but £160 is too much. Sometimes I buy stuff in the UK (and the US) and take it home but that price isn't that great. Your £60 is a 'nice price'. The interior of the Wildcat looks really well made. Don't like the 'g*y' purple end part though.
      Hope your wild fowling trip works out - get well wrapped up, France can sometimes get super cold in Winter.
      Cheers, Mark

    • @srspower

      I would have liked the .17hmr but unfortunately West Mercia insist that you have 'experience' shooting the .17hmr in the field with someone who signs something to say they have taken you out. Given that in itself is illegal it makes things tricky! But the .22lr is a lot cheaper and quieter to shoot so I don't mind too much. Glad you like the channel :)

    • @srspower

      Matt Pleiter The CZ definitely has a much better trigger which is the most important bit really. In every other way the T bolt is better though.

    • @roseybut
      @roseybut Před 8 lety +1

      +srspower I have to agree. I loved my T bolt especialy the speed of the straight pull and the magazine but the trigger was dreadful!! I gave the gun to a gunsmith to see if he could do anything with it and apart from making me a new metal trigger group (the Browning one is all plastic) costing twice what I paid for the gun new he did what he could but in the end I changed it for a savage which has a much beter trigger and is less ammo fussy but if Browning sorted the trigger I'd have another T bolt in a heartbeat.

    • @srspower
      @srspower  Před 8 lety

      Lance Rose I must admit I have got used to it, I managed to shoot a rabbit at 65 yards in the head standing recently anyway. I think part of the problem is the lightness of the rifle as well as the heavy trigger. Strapping my camera to the top of the scope gives it a nice bit of extra weight which makes it more manageable. I'm surprised your smith couldn't polish the sears I have heard of others having it done without an issue.

    • @roseybut
      @roseybut Před 8 lety

      Gunsmith did a good job lightening the trigger but there's only so much polishing you can do to a plastic trigger. He changed the springs also. I also found it very ammo fussy. It would only shoot reasonably well with Eley subs and nothing else. I gave it to several friends who have open FAC's are very experienced shooters and have every thing from .22LR up to 7mm 08 centrefire rifles and they couldn't shoot it very accurately either so I got rid of it. Despite all of that if browning sorted out the trigger (their A and X bolt centre fires are the same even the new 'super feather' modles are not adjustable and set at 2.5 pounds I like my triggers lighter) I would buy another one. Best magazine and boltaction by a country mile.

    • @srspower
