2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 DPF Service Regen Performed

  • After a check engine light exposing a DTC for the Diesel Particulate Filter Sensor, I had a hunch the filter was not being cleaned enough from the regular regeneration cycles due to usual short trips to work and back. Changing the sensor worked and I knew the filter would clog it up again if I didn't undergo the lengthy service regeneration which can last 20-30 minutes and is usually performed by dealers or shops with higher-end diagnostic tools. I was already in the market for a higher level diagnostic tool so I upgraded to the Launch X431. All I can say is this is the real deal and I can't wait to use it again.
    Here's a link to the sensor replacement:

    Same truck as my friend,and he only has 70k Miles with a clogged or dirty from soot dpf, I never deal with diesel anything so this regeneration deal is new to me.They should do something like this on gasoline engines to clean the cat converter,I will see if my Snap on D8 could complete this function.Nice truck..

      Thanks bud and I'm sure your D8 will easily handle this. Also, I agree with you on the gas cats. That would be sweet!

    Did you have a check engine light on which prompted you to change the dpf? Also, can that tool clear check engine lights and codes with the regen performed?

    • @sliceoflife1821
      @sliceoflife1821  Před 11 měsíci

      The most repetitive DTC (check engine light) code I received before this change was P1478 "Particulate Matter Sensor Temperature Circuit High Voltage". Yes, the Launch diagnostic tool (X431) can check and clear fault codes before or after service procedures similar to most diagnostic tools. Good Luck!

    What brand tool are you using to kick it into a regen? Thanks

      I'm using the Launch V431 V+ diagnostic tool. You can probably find a cheaper diagnostic that carries the service regen. function for your model, but just dive into the specs and call them if necessary to verify. Many of these companies are guilty of the dreaded OPUD, "Over Promise and Under Deliver". Good luck!

    I have a check engine light on my 2020 Chev Silverado Diesel 2500 - catalytic converter isn't functioning efficiently. Would this process fix that ?

      There's a good chance, but since you should still be under the 5yr. warranty for that motor, I would let the dealer decide the next move. I've heard from others, they usually start with a service regen and see what "bakes off" and analyze each system for flow. Good luck!

      @@sliceoflife1821 don’t listen to that guy, look the manual regen has several functions that you can monitor to figure out where your problem is. As a matter of a fact when you take it to the dealer for certain issues they will start with the manual regen to monitor temperatures as they increase to ensure they are coming up uniform but that is a different story. The dpf is designed to be regen so many cycles in its life so the more it’s done the shorter the life will become so only do it when you need to. I have a 2019 l5p with 47000 miles on it and the egr is sticking open but fortunately it’s still under warranty. Good luck.
