    Although I agree with you, I have a lot of stuff around the house to sell and hand writing addresses and using lots and lots of cellotape/bags/old boxes is becoming a pain, so I am going to splash out on self sticking labels etc and some nice printers.
    Another thing I have noticed from venturing onto ebay is that the customer likes a well packaged product, so a little investment up front is perhaps a good thing.
    I think anything that makes the process a little less painful is worth investing the money in. Plus I have a full time job and every minute counts in the evening.

    12:47 There is a Hermes sorting centre just 10 min away from my address. I already worked in there and so this is eyewitnessing. And all I can say about them:
    if you have a customer you really hate, or if you want to run your business into bankruptsy, then feel free to use hermes. The way they treat parcels and packages is really scary. If a parcel falls down from the conveyor, it make take hours and hours until someone feels motivated to pick it up.

    • @EBSELPROAUDIO
      @EBSELPROAUDIO Před 3 lety +3

      Sufyan, what you should do is to get to know your local post office.
      They will supply you with lots of information and help, whether that's things like a drop and go bag or a Bulk Certificate Of Postage Document which you can also find online. For items sent 1st or second class as Letters and Large Letters, you should always write the details on that bulk certificate. This makes it easier for the Post Office Cashier who can then simply check, stamp and authorise your proof of postage. 100% the best thing I did when I started E-Commerce properly was to get to know my local post office. They have been very helpful especially in this transition where selling into the EU has been very difficult. Brexit has been a disaster in this regard from small businesses, especially E Commerce. Zain, perhaps you could do some content covering this on your excellent channel.

    • @sufyannasir8186
      @sufyannasir8186 Před 3 lety

      @@EBSELPROAUDIO thanks a lot for taking your time out and replying so comprehensively. Its really hard to find a decent post office. I'm down to my 6th post office in space of 3 months. There's always a sense of hostility, especially when your buying your postage online. Today they decided to reject my large letters even though they were within the parameters. Baffled me! Is it possible to put click and drop parcels and letters in that grey bag and leave the manifesto with the clerk? Thank you in advance.
      Sufyan

    • @EBSELPROAUDIO
      @EBSELPROAUDIO Před 3 lety +1

      @@sufyannasir8186 I've never experienced this hostility. One thing to remember is that most Post Offices are now run like a franchise, so if you come across any problems simply request to see the manager or ask the clerk politely to clarify why post is being rejected.
      It's common that online postage buyers regularly apply the wrong postage costs to their post and in turn this causes alot of extra work and delay to the clerks, so it could be individual clerks have a generally negative view of most E Commerce customers.
      Drop and Go means precisely that, you drop off all your post with a manifest and bulk proof of postage certificate and they process it for you, keeping you're certificates ready to pick up on your next visit.
      I then log into my account online and all the details such as tracked items have been updated to my account when processed by the clerk.
      As I said, I have an excellent relationship with my local Post Office manager, he even texts me if I need to top up and helps with filling in things I forget sometimes like customs stickers.

      You can book a click and drop collection to pick up from home. I do it all the time. 72p on top of the postage. Much easier than lugging stuff to the post office or to a letter box. Royal Mail is the best. Over 3 years they lost only 2 small value parcels. Which is a great result. Most of the items are shipped in only one day (second class). Sometimes even the next day. For over 2KG parcels I use Yodel. Hermes (EVRi now) is big no no.
    It's the most painful part when it comes to the thickness of the item. For the large letter at the moment, it cost £1.15 and for the small parcel, it cost £2.99. It's like 3 times difference. The max thickness of a large letter is 25mm. I had lightweight items a little bit over 25mm in thickness and needed to pay 2.99. It's just not right from Royal Mail. They should introduce some midway price and size. I used to crush some items on purpose or take them out of their original packaging just to fit under 25mm size :( (of course you need to notify the buyer somehow).
    Regarding a printer: Don't splash the cash if you just starting. A simple household printer will do. I bought my HP laser colour printer back in 2010 for only £36 as an ex-display unit. 13 years back. Non-original cartridges cost about £20-30 (4 colours set) and last at least a couple of years (depending on your printing) and do not dry.
    Regarding the packaging: Ask your local corner shop, they usually have tones of old cardboard boxes piling up, especially on the days of restocking.
