As a 25 year old geologist myself, I would love to see those ammonites! You are a fascinating man with a long and rich life's history Paul, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful experiences with us.
I'll try and remember to photograph one of them next time I am at my house. Paul.
Hi from Chris in Nova Scotia Canada. So it’s Wednesday evening May 8 here just after 830 pm and I’m home alone folding laundry in the living room and I have CZcams up on my large tv. Delighted to see your upload so I put it on and continue folding. A few minutes in and I’ve stopped folding laundry and have sat down on the couch fully absorbed watching your video. Absolutely enjoyed this one. I’m soon 54 and have had lots of negative to dwell on but I feel embarrassed to be so down when I know I still enjoy tremendous advantages and opportunities I’m not executing on. I know you don’t know me but I wish we knew each other. Toward the end of your video I return to folding laundry my eyes swelled with tears. Thank you.
What wonderful tales of adventure you spin. A treasure. Don't give up.
You are an exceptional writer. At first I thought... oh my, 16 pages! I didn't think you would captivate my attention the entire time but you sure did. Thank you for sharing.
Enjoy every moment of your life and keep believing Paul. People all over the world are praying for you!🙏 ❤ Much love from the other side of this planet (Cyprus)
Paul I am really happy to see you back again. I am missing you SO VERY MUCH. I totally enjoyed your letter and photo's of your sharing of Irian Jaya. (Did I get that right?) Thank you for sharing this amazing part of your life Paul. Even though I am subscribed, I am afraid I missed an update. So YOU CAN IMAGINE my delight at seeing you today, it was really great. I love how you tell your stories. I loved listening to you. I felt like I was there too. I know, it is insane, how we can think we are invincible at that age. What an awesome story and I loved the photo's. I Love you Paul and I miss you, so very much. My love to Caroline too. Love Deb ❤
What a fabulous story teller Paul. Today we celebrate 1995 with you!
I enjoy seeing you excited and happy. I feel God is working on you. Please tell me you accepted God as your Lord and Savior. This would make me feel that God’s spirit is working with us both. BELIEVE! And I will see you in Heaven. Don’t do assistance in death; go naturally. You’re my new spiritual brother. Please go talk to a priest; you will then have a beautiful death with much hope. We will meet someday. Love, Maria
Paul, your death defying feat brought a full smile to my face. Surely, it would have given your mother apoplexy if she had seen you in literal action. Such a fun memory for you. Even the photo likely gave her a gasp! 😵 The pics of the children and adults were heartwarming. As a retired educator, even knowing the children must now be around 35 yrs old, I had to give each of them a virtual hug. I found your explanation of how you charted fault lines fascinating. Keeping it simple was just my speed. 😉 ( Recently, 6 people, seperately, have shared with me that they are "Flat Earthers." Odd. Kinda blows my mind. Even college grads.) Heavenly scenery. It amazed me how, pardon my phrasing, as recently as 1995, primitive societies seemed. I am now curious what 2024 is like. Extremely sad people who were employed by the same company as you had terrifying deaths. Quitting was a wise move on your part. Your adventures were not in Sarawak. However, I was reminded of a book my first cousin, once removed, sent to my mother many years ago. The cousin, Daphne Brooke of Toronto, Canada, worked for the U. N. She sent it to share genealogy, as well as, a warning. The book title is, The White Rajah's of Sarawak. Evidently, to this day, my name should be on the down low as those relatives continue to be on the Sh t List. Rightfully so. I call the book, The White Witches. My first name was my mother's middle name and my grandmother's last name. Both of them, like Daphne, were born in Toronto. As for me, I have always lived in Michigan. You are often in my thoughts. I imagine your scans, tests, oncologist appointment and your question which are all coming up lay heavy on your heart and mind. I know when I go anxiety reigns. Prayers and a hug, Brooke
I love hats Caroline. I am with you. Lots of dates in May. I will write them all down tonight! Love ya both.
You were in my thoughts yesterday. So happy to see your smiling face pop up today!
What a wonderful memory. We should all be doing this and shareing our stories with others. You are so interesting Paul. A memoir of your life would be fascinating and funny, although X rated in places. Blessings❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing this great adventure and for letting us participate in your life Paul. This letter is so well written and shows how deep the connection between you and your parents was.
(This time I have to rewatch the video using google translater- lots of unknown vocabulary 🤷♀️)
So you are my english teacher as well.
Much love
Bettina/Germany ❤
We missed you! So happy to see you. You look great 👍🏼 ❤
Love the shirt!! You are looking so good now. Keep up the good work. Love to you and Caroline.
Hi, Paul.Thank you for sharing your memories with us! The photos are priceless. ❤❤
Great to see you mate , I’m using the Wife’s iPad again , so this is Russ,😊you reminiscing is great to hear and is I believe good for your mental health and your nerves and will obviously keep you thinking of positive things. If I was in your shoes I think and of course I really have no idea how you feel , but I think I would want to create content as much as possible , stamping my experience of life on the World stage so I would know it was all out there to be viewed and enjoyed by others for years , also so people would know what made me tick and what my loves were etc: You have done this to some extent and that can only ever be a possitive thing : More Paul and Ricky and Carol talks too would be great: Paul you really could have a lot longer then what you have been told , Many times I’ve heard people told 6 months and they live 7 years and more : You are a very top fella and yes do what is ultimately best for you but I reckon you’ve got years yet mate ❤️👍All the very best to you , Russ from UK oh and Wendy the wife too 🤣👍
Love seeing videos like this, you telling us stories about your life.
Hi from the UK.
How interesting, Paul.
What amazing experiences you had back then and isn't it great to reminisce and thus, revisit these places.
Thanks for sharing them with us too.
You're looking good and so nice to hear you so animated.
Take care.
Sending love and light, and lots of positive thoughts to you.
Hi to Caroline too.
❤😊
Such a sheer delight to see you Paul, you look so well and it’s
So good to see you smile.
We are not physically with
You but we are all here with
You .
You have such a lovely voice listening to your letter and ASMR story from you would be amazing xxx
Much love from the uk
I loved the wide mouthed frog joke!!!
Hey Paul, I stumbled upon your videos and just wanted to thank you for sharing your journey through life. Watching some of your videos has made me reflect on my own life and on death and what it means to be truly happy no matter what I am going through. I thank you so much and even though I am not even 40 yet I sometimes find myself reflecting and thinking about where I was 20 years ago and where I will be when I'm around your age. The passing of time seems surreal to me. One day my grandparents were here and the next they are gone only to visit me in dreams and distant memories. One day turns into two which turns into a year which turns into a decade in the blink of an eye.
You are very strong and are not only a warrior now but were a warrior back then as shown by your photos of you hanging off the side of a helicopter and not being afraid to be around tribal men holding machetes while traveling in helicopters in remote locations. The fact you are happy when sharing your videos and are prepared for what we all will go through at some point is inspiring to me that happiness without boundaries is possible.
Thank you for sharing your content and I love you for being the loving caring and straightforward warrior that you are and I wish you the best and thank you for inspiring me to become a better person and to take my happiness more seriously. You are an inspiration to all of us and while most of the world is intoxicated with wealth, social status, trying to one up each other, and follow the latest sports stars, to me you are a star as its warriors like you that make me reflect and face the hard questions and thoughts that most push away and act as though will never occur.
Thank you Ranger. Live your life well. Strive for genuine happiness. Be kind to those around you. Paul.
That was a pure treat, Paul. Thank you. XO
It's great to see another video from you! ❤
Thinking of you this morning, Paul. Good luck ❤
Paul, what a wonderful video! I just loved hearing you read aloud the letter you wrote to your parents in 1995. It must seem so surreal to read what your younger self wrote all those years ago. We all have a "magic" year (or two) from our lives that we remember fondly. Whenever I'm feeling down, I let myself mentally revisit those good times, and it always makes me smile and long for those sweet days. I'd love to hear and see more from your early years. It helps us to know you better and gives us more of the story of your interesting life. I always learn something from you in every video you post (about after an earthquake, the lava that flows up turns to igneous rock and becomes magnetized). See, we do pay attention.
I hope your upcoming medical tests go well and that the results are not disappointing. Will anxiously await your next video. Please say hello to Caroline. Until then...❤
Thelma (USA)
Great video Paul, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really did enjoy your video! A life well lived Paul.
Thanks for sharing, Paul. What a varied life you've led so far ❤
Such a wonderful experience, thank you Paul.
So great to see you❤ Very interesting letter, pictures, and your story.
Thanks for sharing Paul, that was really interesting and nice to see you again.
The magical meaning of ammonite;
It also offers stability and anchoring since the spiral design represents a link to the earth's energy. It has profound connotations and may be a potent instrument for spiritual development and self-discovery. Overall, ammonite meaning has been associated with protection, stability, grounding, and creativity.
You’re such a lovely soul! As I know you know the colonizers did the same thing to my people (Native Americans) when they invaded our land committed genocide and of course stole our land! The goal of every colonizer is to (as you know) strip away the identities of the Indigenous/Native population and force us/them to assimilate to THEIR way of life culture customs language beliefs etc. because OF COURSE they their ways their EVERYTHING is better and of course “civilized” unlike the “savages” they see/saw us as!! It’s such a cruel thing to do to another human! I’m sure the locals you took time to learn about and speak to loved you! You may have been one of very few people who treated them with kindness & acceptance & who was sincerely curious about their history & their lives ! You have a ❤ of GOLD and it’s so appreciated! Thank you SO much for sharing your story & thus THEIR story/plot in life!! Sad knowing the cruel things humans have done and continue to do to other humans! You’re a true💎 Sending you hugs & a big thank you!! 🤗
Hi Lynette, you are truly insightful. You have identified the reason that I broke down crying in the middle of that video. I was told by the guy that replaced me that in the months after I left, the Indonesian military took lethal actions to supress the Irianese in a nearby village (not Sugapa). I didn't have the heart to explain my tears in the video, but that is why.
Humans are the cruellest of creatures.
Paul.
@@PaulinPerth Hi Paul, thank you so much. The reason for your tears was easy to recognize. I cried with you! I’m so happy you were able to experience life with the indigenous people of that land happy you appreciated it & even happier you weren’t there to witness the cruelty that was inflicted on the people you loved shortly after you left! If only we could all appreciate each others cultures customs languages beliefs etc the world would be a much better place void of the cruelty we are currently witnessing take place all over the world even as I write you!! I watch all your videos and I laugh and cry with you! You’ve touched my heart in a profound way as I know you have MANY MANY other people throughout your lifetime! My heart breaks knowing you’re struggling and dealing with this cruel disease! I always find myself asking WHY? Why does this always seem to happen to THE VERY BEST people?? You Paul ARE one of those VERY BEST people & I’m SO happy that I’ve had the honor of knowing you even if only through CZcams!! As always thank you for sharing your life with us….the good bad and the ugly….you’re REAL and that’s a breath of fresh air!! Sending you positive thoughts & vibes as always!❤️
Achukma Hullo~
Brilliant! The story telling and journey you take is on is brilliant.
Such fun memories! Thank you for sharing this.🩷
Great photos and story sharing Paul 🥰
Yoda .... It's good to see you! You should tell us more stories!
I enjoyed this video. It made me smile…a lot. My husband always called me Yoda. One day I asked him if it was because I was old and wise or old and ugly. My husband was a very wise man.😂 I named my little Italian Greyhound Yoda. I call him my alien dog. Best wishes and continued prayers for you Paul.
Paul you’re awesome. So glad to see you enjoying moments. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤
Loved this Paul. You're an amazing story teller. Please continue to tell us about your life. What an awesome legacy to leave.
That was fascinating Paul,,thankyou,,love from England❤
Fantastic memories, thank you so much for sharing, all these events have shaped you to be the paul we love to listen to ❤
That was super fun and interesting! Thanks for sharing. It’s great that you are finding happy memories. ❤️
I feel so blessed to share your journey and life with you... It isn't strange at all to me that so many of us connect and get close through this medium. Doing hospice work, taking care of so many of my family members and doing shamanic work I've learned our souls are so much stronger than our physical beings... And we truly are one. Beautiful video and I thank you for all of us♥️
Wow great memories & photos ❤😊
Yay! You’re back!
Love listening to you Paul. Keep smiling and I will too.
Paul thanks for sharing. You truly have lived a good life even with the ups snd downs. Love ya my friend and still praying for miracle
God Bless you, Paul.
Hi Paul, Great letter. That was soooo interesting, to learn more about your work there, and the photos were great. And if I'm not mistaken I think that Jason was with you in the Solomons? If he was, then I still have a lovely photo of you both on Uepi. After Irian Jaya, staying at a resort in the Solomon Islands must have been a nice change before going on to PNG. I don't know whether at Uepi it was the same Bell helicopter that was used, but I remember holding my breath when it took off from our tiny supply jetty for the last time, as it was really heavy with equipment. All the best with your upcoming appointments, Paul. xx
P.S. Having lived in the Solomons, Balikpapan in Indonesian Borneo, and the Northern Islands of Fiji (as well as visited many other islands in the South Pacific) I totally relate to your experiences with the friendly people and especially the happy children. I loved it!
Yes, Jason Blades was at Uepi Island too. Same guy. He has his own electronics repair business in Perth now. The Bell chopper was a different one though. I remember you fondly. Paul.
Good luck on your scans, must be incredibly stressful. PET scan today, I think you said?
Wow Paul that was an amazing letter and great story of your travels. I remember seeing that photo over on Substack. Like Steve Martin used to say you’re a “wild and crazy guy” … lol. I love the story you have on Substack as well, you have definitely lived life to the fullest my friend. You grabbed that tiger by the tail. The photos you shared are wonderful you have done things some of us only dream about. We all have missed you a lot Paul. And you know we will all be praying and sending good vibes on these days coming up for you. 🙏❤️. Hugs n love to you and Caroline 💕. Be blessed.
What a wonderfull video, Paul. I enjoyed it immensely. I keep you close in my heart, and because I pray, I do so for you.
What a lovely story. Never been to that area of the world, but studied the tribal history of Irian Jaya as part of my Cultural Anthro major in college. The way you describe the people made total sense to me. It was great to see them through your eyes!
Thank you so much for sharing your memories with us. I've never been to your part of the world. Kind regards from Namibia.
Thank you for the fantastic story Paul. I really enjoy listening to stories of your past. Thanks for sharing with us ❤
Hi Paul, It's so good to see you back and looking well. I love seeing that smile 😊 thank you for sharing your trip down memory lane, sending hugs to you and Caroline, and will be keeping you in thoughts prayers xx
Amigo you look and sound great...so smart so articulate...i know months ago i urged you to publish.. betcha you're workin on it as we speak... sure the past seems great but every day you are granted now is far better in comparison...you have arrived and survived... wishing you all the best 🤔🗽
Great hearing a little bit about your 25 year old self, LOVED the photos. Thank you for sharing Paul. Sending masses of positive vibes for a good outcome with your scan 🍀🍀🍀
Love to you and Caroline xx
I thoroughly enjoyed this Paul. Your last photo that was dated September 5,1995...I clearly remember that day. That was my 21st birthday and in the State of Idaho I was legally able to enter a bar and get a drink legally. Amazing to think you were in such an amazing place whilst I was sitting in a bar restaurant in Boise, Idaho ordering my first drink. 😂
Thank you so much, Paul, for dropping me into your fascinating memories and allowing me to imagine as though I could have been there as well! What fun, you truly have made my day and brought me the biggest smile! 😊❤
Hi Paul. It’s great to see you. Thanks for the positive vibes. Love from Daphne in Virginia USA 🇺🇸
Greetings from Wisconsin 🍻 🍻 USA. Glad you're putting out videos. We've all feel connected to you in our own ways. You owe us nothing but when you're not up here on YT, we miss you.
Hope your appointments go well🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😘😘😘
Loved your story Paul, I was involved in Helicopters and general aviation in NZ during that time and know the Bell 206 - Jetranger well too. I can certainly appreciate your experience of fun, risk, satisfying work and the huge sorrow that accompanied it all. Your memories were wonderful and totally enjoyed your enthusiasm and love for those days. Rock on!
I recently read most of your writing on substack. Thank you for sharing your talent and rich, interesting life. This reading was an extra treat. Love to you & Caroline.
I have too and it’s so great :)
Thank you, Paul, for this wonderful share, it’s lovely to see you back, and equally wonderful to get some insight from you, into your valued and precious life experiences. It doesn’t surprise me that you are such an engaging person, a man who makes us want to hear all you have to say and share with us, and then, reflect on it while we wait for your next update. I wish you all the very best for your upcoming appointments, I imagine you must be very apprehensive about them and what they may reveal in relation to your illness, especially knowing that there’s a strong chance what you hear will be so very challenging, but even if it’s not the very best you could wish for, I sincerely hope it’s the very best, possible, for you. Care, always, to you, 🥰
Oh wow Paul! This is fantastic. A friend was there in October 96, he felt like you do about the Irianese people. He and 5 others traversed north coast to south coast over 6 weeks, meeting many tribes on the way. I've been interested in it ever since. Loved your memories of it! Thank you for sharing this 😊
Cool shirt Paul ❤
What a great letter you wrote. It was soooooo interesting, you could have continued forever for my taste. You are such a great storyteller. Thank you so much for sharing❤
Btw - you sure look great and I love your Shirt!
Paul, what a great memory to share with us…. So many adventures to experience, aren’t you lucky. I am happy to see you looking great today. Sending love and hugs Paul. Love to Caroline too. Be sure to rest. ❤️
Love you Paul. ❤
Great story today Paul! I’d like to know the silliest/ most frustrating mechanical story you’ve got. I had to redo valve cover gaskets on a real pain in the azz job for myself two years ago and that was frustrating but hilarious because it’s the story of my life that I have to do the hardest things to gain the most from. Today’s video was excellent and your writing was TOP NOTCH!
Thank you so much for sharing this adventure with us, and for being so honest about the risks you took, unknowingly, by hanging from the helicopter.
I am curious to know what you will do with the letter. The video is a great way of creating a record of it - with extras. However the physical letter itself is also a fantastic historical item. I struggle myself with what should be done with treasures I have accumulated. Swedish death cleaning is a great idea, but how do you find a person that will appreciate a treasure like your letter?
I guess the answer is that if you can't think of anyone who would appreciate something you should just let it go, but it's not easy. For example, what about a letter written 150 years ago by a great grandfather to his future wife?
Interested in your views, Paul, and in the views of your followers.
Hi Deborah,
I struggle with this exact question. I have a bunch of photos and documents from my life, and from my parents and grandparents. A lot of that stuff is only important to me. Of all my siblings, it is probably my brother Noel that is most likely to want to keep some of my stuff. Caroline might want some too.
The remainder is a bit problematic. I have no children to be interested in this stuff.
Keeping it is a storage burden with no payoff.
Making the video of that letter makes it easier for me to allow that letter to be physically disposed of.
If there are no descendants to value that 150 year old letter, then perhaps you could make a video of reading it out and talking about how it makes you feel. Then perhaps you can let it go physically.
But I acknowledge, it is a difficult topic.
Paul.
Enjoyed this video tremendously!! So happy to have you back!!!
Love the tee shirt , what a job you had , glad your with Caroline hope the scans go well hang in there God bless you and lots of love 🙏💖🙏
Nice you've had such an adventurous life Paul, many fond memories to recall. The years go by so quickly it's scary how fast. I have an opalised ammonite, they are beautiful and so unique in their geometry.
Oh wow. Opalised ammonite. That must look incredible. I hope you keep it somewhere that you look at it often. Paul.
It's great to see you again! You look good, thank you Jesus! Stay happy and healthy my friend
Good Morning Paul!!! Praying for you today💕
Hey Paul, I thoroughly enjoyed your letter and the pictures ! Thanks for sharing, I’m going to Malaysia later this year and I’ll try to do a daily diary to keep the memories for later when I’m old. 😊 you are looking good, much love from holland!🇳🇱 ❤
Please do. Journaling is well worth it. It makes you use your senses at the time, and you get the benefit of reliving the moment years later. Paul.
Thank you, Paul, for sharing the best year of your life. The people and children are so beautiful. It touched my heart very much. How little it took to make them happy. Puts life in perspective, yes? Danger lurks at every turn. Always go with your gut feelings. Handsome then; handsome still. Much love to you and Caroline. ❤❤️🌻🌻
Hi Paul, I normally don't do this kind of thing, but just came across this post and felt the guy was so reasonable. Also, the responses to his post are overwhelming in their agreement with his decision.
Love you truly (Ann)

Thanks Tova. I don't think I commented on another potential pregnancy ever again after that experience. I know better now. Paul.
@@PaulinPerth 😂👍
Wishing the best for your tests! ❤
