Is it too late? Perhaps no one will see these post. I lived in Africa. I lived as a young girl in Nairobi. And I loved it. This film brought it all back.: the sound, the people, the smell of the landscape.. My mother is gone now. And yet this is what brings her back to me.
It is yet another Year later than when you posted (2024) now. I hope you are well. I am 60 now and live in Australia. I was born in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in 1963 and lived in Africa for the first 12 years of my life. I remember it well. I love this Movie and the Soundtrack - hard to believe the Movie and Sound Track were first released 39 years ago. My father passed away 11 years ago but my mother is still going strong at 86. God Bless
❤
It is never too late. I never lived in Africa and a pure white person so to speak but that movie and music made me feel I lived there in a former life. As long of the sounds and evn the smell live around you, know that your Mom is still alive and is looking over you. That movie and music mad me feel like I was flying over my homeland where I can find the beginning and the end, peace at last.I always wanted to go there but I limit my travels to see my Mom in France considering she is 97. Treasure the memories, smell, landscape, the people and the music that brings you back to your Mom. She is technically gone but not spiritually. She lives in you through that. Embrace her spirit
Its never to late.I love this song ,too, because i remember the time when i was young and free.
Best wishes to you little girl in Nairobi
I saw your post. As did others. What a beautiful thing to share. I wish to go one-day. And play this whole I travel across the land 😊🙏
The flying sequence always reminds me of my Parents. Not because of the plot, but in the fact that the were both instructor pilots who met working together after WWII. They flew open cockpit biplanes and fell in love soaring through the skies, including landing on beaches like in one scene. They would have both turned 100 years old this year. Dad flew with the USAAF in the South Pacific and Mom was a civilian instructor pilot. “The Greatest Generation”. I miss them so.
Such a beautiful love story. I read it while listening to the music. I could imagine them landing on the beach
So cinematic and heartwarming. A real love story with intelligent talented pilots ❤
@georgebriscoe4057 My sincerest heartfelt condolences, to you. Those is truly one of the most beautiful soundtracks! 🙏🏻
They were the Greatest Generation
As much as I appreciate the comments regarding the "Greatest Generation; Every generation, then and Now, faces a common enemy, Evil and Wanton Destruction!

Our Generation, not the Greatest Generation, who more than did their Part, asks us this Critically Important Question: " Are you, the Generation of 2024, prepared to do YOUR PART?!?"
If OUR generation answers with ANYTHING other than an Unflinching, EMPHATIC, "YES !!"
Then we have proven ourselves unworthy before GOD and HISTORY!!
Innocense, LOVE, and Especially our

Best picture ever produced and actors superior to any others they will never make movies of that calibre ever again music wonderful played at my mom's funeral I lived in South Africa Cape Durban many places I miss it so brings tears to hear that piece off spectacular music and the 🌞
This soundtrack is bittersweet for me. I cry every time I hear it. It’s been years now. Me and my brother, my only sibling listened to this together. He was diagnosed in 1986 with AIDS. In 1994 he became ill. He wasn’t ready to die. He fought the battle for 2 years. This lovely song was his favorite. It helped to bring him peace and calmed his heart. Michael was a beautiful person who loved life. I look forward to meeting you in heaven with our Lord.
And you will
Rest In Eternal Peace Michael⚘ I Am Sorry For Your Loss❤
May your brothers memory be eternal....
Nos disparus vivent avec nous tous les jours de notre vie.Je parle aux miens et comme ma madeleine de Proust, cette bande son me rapproche de maman qui l' aimait tant.Merci à l' art cinématographique qui embellit nos vies!

I was born in Africa and it was my best years. Africa, i will never forget you. ..😍
As we grow older we apriciated beauty more and more. This score and movie has it all. Tonight we adopted a African elephant orphan called Taroha and we hope to see him grow until he might not need us anymore. ❤
❤❤❤
God is with you - In Every Ways, Always - God's Everlovingkindness, Grace and Measure Of Faith On You - Amen 🙏🏽✝️♥️
My dad bought me the vinyl in 1988. He passed away last year. He didn't get to go many places. I miss you, dad!!! I know you are with angels and travelling to wonderful places.
Here's to your Dad's good taste. May he RIP
You know? How do you know!?

Out Of Africa, Such a Beautiful and Memorable Movie. What's More Unforgettable is John Barry The Greatest Composer in Music🎶
Yep! Move over John Wil!iams
Every time I listen to this music in my house only 5kms away from Karen Blixen's house and at night I hear the lions roaring at the Nairobi National Park, I say to myself just like Baroness Blixen did many decades ago, yes, this is how it was intended.
I got a chance to co-write with John on the film “Frances.“ The song was cut from the last scene but Sarah Brightman recorded it. If you know the story, you’ll understand why a song with lyric just wouldn’t work..
Out of Africa is my favorite score of his. Besides being a master composer, he was fun, bright and very easy to be around. A gentleman in the best sense of the work.
I can’t imagine listening from your house. What an amazing feeling! Namaste
So beautiful
@@candyparton6472 pppppppppppppppppppppp
I can’t imagine the incredible feeling of hearing lions in the wild. I would love to visit East Africa, especially the Rift Valley area. Apologies if it’s known locally by another name, that is all I’ve ever heard it called.
That is EPIC!
I lived in South Africa a long time ago, I was a young man on an adventure, fond memories and a few tears. beautiful music and a beautiful land
Sounds like the adventures of a lifetime. Glad you enjoyed the experience and that your life has been enhanced by it.
this whole movie and the John Barry music are movie/music PERFECTION!
This was my nans favourite film. She had been to Africa on a holiday and absolutely fell in love with it. This piece of music meant so much to her and to my grandad who was a huge John Barry fan. When we lost them a few years ago we played this at nans funeral. Breaks my heart every time I hear it.
My mother took this film very dear to her heart...... it was always like a "journey" to Africa for her! The music always moved her to tears. She passed away many years ago and now I'm like this...
Thank you very much for this "video"......
So beautiful ...My Mum had this played at her funeral & l shall do the same .It always makes me cry & l remember my life in Kenya many years ago.Forever in my heart.❤
It's my mum's favourite movie and when we watched yesterday night I was overwhelmed by the music. When I was home I keep play the music over and over again. What a masterpiece! Thank you Mr. Barry, for such a breathtaking piece of music.
John Barry at his finest.
Absolutely!!
One of the best movie scores.....ever...!
Merci Monsieur Redford...
Who would ever vote down such a beautiful piece of music?
I lived in Beautiful Africa and married a Beautiful African woman this music so powerful feels me with wonderful and many many memories
Listening to this brings me tears, each time.. My father loved Africa and lived there almost all his life. I remember the time when we were flying with his little plane over elephants and other animals, with my brother and my mother, in Gaboon... We were happy. Now he is flying with angels and only memories remains.
I love you dad, thank you for all.
What magical memories. Thankyou for sharing them. I too love Africa.
Good thing ya didn't crash on your way to the venue or the cannables would of had you on the menu
@@chrispsaros2405 ass
Thank you for sharing your magical memory, but this music goes beyond Africa it stirs emotions, brings me tears, I don't know why, I think of friends, family, people that I loved and are no longer in this world.
So beautiful. Reading your words painted a picture of what your memory was. Sounds like such a beautiful memory to have. So incredible. God bless your dad.
Although John Barry is linked with the James Bond films, the theme songs from these movies have been attributed to other composers (songwriters). Now, in OUT OF AFRICA, we have a bona fide John Barry score all the way through. Also in SOMEWHERE IN TIME.
John Barry is literally the soul of God .I will never understand how a man can create so such beautiful melody
My mom loved this musical score. She said the melody was so relaxing and gave her the sensation of flying. She died in 1994. Miss you mom ❤️
Sorry for your Lost, Rick. Your Mom was absolutely right about the melody...
This film won 7 academy awards. Including John Barry for musical score and Meryl Streep best actress. John Barry’s music elevates all of his motion pictures by capturing the essence for the audience to enjoy.
John Barry is a genius , this sountrack is maravillouse , when i listen , i dream.
Now if you can learn to spell.
My dad loved this soundtrack...he was a beautiful loving person...miss you dad..also served in the navy and as a state police officer....he always was there for anyone...loved everyone....miss you dad...he would do anything & not ask for anything in return....love you
My Dad was a police officer and loved this soundtrack as well, which is why i love it. cheers to you and cheers to Dads never forgotten.
My mum always wanted to go to Africa. Due to her illness and short life she couldn't. But listening to this brought her there. Love you mum ❤️

How can someone compose so much beautiful music. Just incredible!
Absolute genious. Masterpiece.
Soundtrack is big part of the magic when watching the picture.
Each note is a teardrop from heaven.
In awe we breath in this most glorious score, learn the brilliance of John Barry and marvel, enthralled. Who else could rival the sweeping masterpiece of Maurice Jarre in Laurence of Arabia. A Passage to India, Doctor Zhivago. This cannot be heard without emotion, it compels tears and must evoke memories of life's deepest experience. Who can not be moved by the hypnotic cadence, sweet passages of beauty which simply blow like warm winds over grassland, in such effortless flow. Ah, and that haunting woodwind . . the sublime tempo and perfectly measured, supremely . . knowing . . pace. The melody, exquisite, perfect, wraps around your soul, cuts through the heart and shatters with a note all defences. The senses soar in glorious moments of ecstacy and the mind seems to lift to a place . . just for a little while, higher. John Barry we thank you. It is art that makes civilisation
A superb soundtrack from a movie that was clearly not of its mid-80s era. The cinematography along with this soaring score was more reminiscent of Hollywood's golden age movies.

This music reminds me of my travel across the Kenyan savannah by train from Mombasa to Nairobi in 1959, superb.
Was it the school train or the boat train?
I don't think anyone can "take you there" the way John Barry can. You not only hear the beautiful music that he writes, but you see the beauty through his eyes, and feel the awesome grandeur of the African Continent. This is still another excellent musical score from Sir Barry. Thank you, John! No one does it better.
and nothing can make you feel God's greatness the way such beautiful music can
@@lynx6124Such divine music, ought to be listened to at a low volume
❤
Thanks for your comment I am glad to know who wrote this score, wondering if he wrote some of the others or all of them, your comment is spot on how it puts you there, then you start caring about the people not just the landscape, and the animals, then you start thanking the Most High, and thinking about the people worldwide we are going to need God, in the movie her wing man, he calls her Sabo, he was always saying things like "God is Great Sabo" I would smile to myself and say Yes...
Perfectly encapsulates the setting, and the vigorous breathlessness with which we all want to love another.
John Barry's music is so beautiful. It is truly music from Heaven.
Yes I agree 100% it makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck which is for me a sign of the heavenly beauty of John's music.
Dommage que Monsieur Redford a quitté le monde du cinéma 😢
Son plus beau film est bien sûr
OUT OF AFRICA ❤❤❤❤
John's music made great films even greater
my aunt bought my family this tape. grew up with it im 52 yrs old now. know the whole thing by heart, still listen to it, i find it calming. Dad died a few years back so i now also listen to it for nostalgic reasons as well now. it's beautiful music.
I lost my mother in 2011 and while driving away from the hospital this came the the radio. I still think of her when I hear this beautiful piece of music x
Hello danum just to say last year on friday 9th sept ken bruce played this as part of a prog of music on bbc R2, with the passing of the queen (day before) in mind
The flying scene....when she reaches back and he takes her hand....beautiful moment.

Thank the heavens for ears, just to be able to hear this is enough.
My late admirable mother loved this movie. God I miss her but shes at peace and happy now in heaven. With my caring dad and whomever else❤😢😊
John Barry scored some of the most memorable soundtrack music
Every so often in life, a genius arrives on Earth, John Barry one of them.
I agree 427 Trading…. 😊
Indeed !!!
John Barry was not human . He was an alien descended from the high heavens. No human being can aspire to achieve the Godliness of his music. His music was... and is in perfect sync with the Creator. The vastness, the non-perception of time, the drama and the awareness of how negligible is Man compared to all of Creation.
This music has had a place in my heart since, amazingly now, I would drive my heart-sick 24 y/o nephew to the Houston Greyhound bus station for a 3 a.m. bus EVERY FRIDAY! The hour-long drive in the dark was made dramatic and memorable with this music in the CD player.
Yes it does. I never want to be disturbed while I am listening .
This was playing on the radio in a used bookstore. A pretty young woman asked what it was.
It is so beautiful she said.
How right she was! Just beautiful and inspiring!
There are certain pieces of music that brings tears to your eyes because of their beauty ..this is one of those pieces of music 💕
Yeah this and Somewhere in Time

I have been living in those marvelous places among those peoples!!!! So many memories!!!
His work on Dances with Wolves is very similar style and just as beautiful yet completely different.
One of my favourite movies and the music evokes such beautiful memories
I can't decide which is greater - John Barry as a composer or Karen Blixen as a writer. Great music and great book led to this marvelous movie. Kenya should thank those who came to visit on account of the great good brought about through tourism.
I love the fact the Evocative nature of music opens our consciousness to our deepest dreams and hopes, our memories and Longings . Can anyone imagine Movies without Soundtracks, Lyrical and Otherwise?
Thank God for the Muse/AKA who whispered in John Barry's Subconscious Mind. Thank God,
quite Literally forSubconsciosness of John Barry and other great Composers.

This is so difficult to write .... This was me and my mom ❤ we even went to karens house and saw Africa together. Makes this even more painful 😢 thank you mom for everything. I love you and our travels 🌍
Watched this AGAIN 5/31/2023 just to enjoy the music! Watched it 25 years ago and while scrolling for a movie to watch l stumbled on this again and the decision was made! 🎵🎶
I spent a year working in Kenya in 2006 and amazing times... this movie played for months in the hotel and will never be forgotten...
I loved Africa I wanted to go back it’s soo beautiful . Makes me cry listening to it . I left my heart there ❤️
lived there for 30 years in my heart i never left ,
Every time I go to montana. I'm home 40 yrs now. I know exactly how you feel. Dances with wolves theme puts me right there. Good stuff.
Once there, a part of you never leaves. For as long as you live, it will call you back.
It smells different too, doesn't it?
I love this soundtrack. I've been falling asleep to it for 35 years. The movie is my favorite
Very nice. The only Barry score that touches me similarly deep as Morricone.
RIP Ennio…♥
Who in the world would give a thumbs down to this classic? Your sick!
I think this is one the most beautifully romantic scores ever written for a motion picture.
My mom would play this album on long family car trips, it sent me into wonderful daydreams. So beautiful.
Your Mum is awesome
The movie excellent, as with all John Barry’s music, that to hear, see those movies makes for exceptional excellence. I have to say , it’s probably my favorite. We are blessed to have lived to experience this exceptional music. Beautiful and comforting. The music flirts with one’s life, some highs and some lows. ♥️. This superb music is simply the inspiration of reflection on ones life path and is just excellent. He will be remembered as Loved. 🕊
Both the Movie and Music are "stirring" but 30 years after watching it, I am still in awe of the shot from the grave looking down on the Savanna
Oh how I love this beautifully moving music. I remember seeing the movie when it first came out in 1985. I was 25 years old and a HUGE romantic (still am..💕). I fell in love with the movie and the music and had to run out and buy the cassette tape (lol) right away....and now I have the CD. I must’ve listened to this soundtrack thousands and thousands of times. Last time I watched the movie though was probably 30 years ago. Hard to believe it’s been that long....wow. Might have to watch again soon. I was SO in love with that romantic story.....and the romantic music....and with Robert Redford and of course the incomparable Merryl Streep.
This movie came out while I was working in Kenya. It's inextricably linked to that experience and this sound track can still make me cry.
Amazing isn’t it? How something from so long ago brings back emotions and memories of such intensity. It’s a wonderful theme, perfectly performed. I love it.
You are so lucky! I’d love to work in and experience Africa ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful!!!!
@@waitwhat6882 It was life-changing. Everything I've done since has been influenced by my time in Kenya. I went with VSO, the Brit version of Peace Corps.
The tea of kenya is very great too, maked me healthy
I am 65. I have loved JB most of my life... Magical
Our first big adventure together, Robyn and I, was to Africa. The experience of being in this land, multiple countries, many safaris, was to laugh, be in awe , enjoy , be amazed, immerse in the culture.....this music takes me back, anytime I want.
This was on TV last night. One of the best love stories and soundtracks ever made. John Barry was simply a genius. See King of Kings, Somewhere in Time The Notebook if you want to see other great love stories...the music makes the story...
Have you ever seen 'Love Story'? great music there too!
Absolutely loved this movie. I never tire of watching it. The soundtrack is superb. Wonderful music to take me back to Karen's house in Kenya, which I visited. Great ambience in the music, and her old home. John Barry's music here is par excellence. Hauntingly beautiful.
Ukochany kompozytor ...DZIĘKI :)
A Masterpiece. No matter how many times one hears this it always communicates peace and Resolve. At least for this Fan.
...and for this one too.

This music is like that deep breathe you feel when you're in love and you hope it never ends.
Perfect… the longing of your heart for love
Having spent six years working in Kenya with an ILO/Undp project this movie and the music bring it all back to me....wonderful...I am 91 years old and retired in Thailand....
I dedicate this beautiful peice of music to one of my living heroes, Kevin Richardson, The Lion Whisperer. I thank him, and all his magnificent Animal Ambassadors for the Work that they do, to bring awareness to the plight of Lions. God bless you all.

As days, marches to months and years and loved ones all gone or immigrated Out Of Africa, it's Cry Beloved South Africa. 16 May 2024. Johannesburg, South Africa
I love that everyone is posting "oh, my mom loved this" or "my mom would play this in the car" and I'm no different. My mom would play this and it's the single song I associate with her, I adore it. I had a hard time processing her death, and this let me feel something.
Grieving is a process that never ends really. It might transform into a more subtle and positive thought process. I explain briefly. When my Dad passed away, I had to write about my feelings, which was about the sense of loss, 10 drafts over two years. I let it sit because the more I was getting into it, the more pain I felt. I had to breathe and think what was happening beyond my physical and emotional pain. This is when I suddenly realized, that want it or not, he would never be dead. He just transitioned to another dimension that we truly don't understand. So I totally changed my title from the Sense of Loss to the Metamorphosis. I will always miss him in the physical world but I know that he is in another dimension I can't grasp or understand. This movie/soundtrack brings to an etheral state where all is one, so to speak and if I make sense. Trust me, I miss him in my world every single day but I know he is with through music, art, movies, writings, etc
I never get tired of listening to this soundtrack, it may be about that beautiful country of Africa but for me it conjures up so many beautiful romantic memories and adventures of my past. John Barry was a very gifted composer who could transport you back in time. Love all of his music.
Agree. He was a genius, sadly not as appreciated as he should have been.
Every time I hear this, it touches the depth of my soul.
I could listen to it non stop. Love it! Great
Great John Barry
The most beautiful music I will ever listen too.
Africa is a continent not a country.
I love this music. I've seen the film and read the book so many times, but the best thing was that I was able to visit Karen Blixen's house in Kenya last year. This is my unforgettable experience for eternity.❤❤❤
True John Barry fans must seek the 'PBS Great Performances' mini-doc on this phenomenal composer, conducting some of his greats to film clips and masterful musicians performing🫠 I believe it's still on CZcams. Bravo Maestro!
I first listened to this piece of music when I was the ripe age of 13 in music class. It brought a tear to my eye and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Still to this day 6 years later it had the same effect on me bringing back good memories and members of family who've passed. I love this piece of music, it has more meaning than anyone can understand.
John Barry and Ennio Morricone are with doubt the GREATEST composers, score and conductors ever. I first got into JB's music back in the early 90's and I never tire of listening to his wonderful music. As a genuine human being and a wonderful composer he is missed so much.
What about John Williams he has produced some of cinemas great scores Star Wars being about one of the best scores Harry Potter JFK Raiders of The Lost Ark Schinders List Superman
John Williams is another great composer and deserves high praise for his work, it's just that I find JB and EM are more emotive. But everyone has their favorites.
In 2016 there always has to be a list of the BEST, GREATEST yadda yadda.....Great Music does that thing we call being in tune with all! So I LOVE MUSIC that touches my SOUL! No list, just wonderful, exhilarating vibrations we call Music!
When we flew over Africa, I knew my life would never be the same again!!! The people in the movie were so real , I could feel like I was one of them .I was walking in a dream .Needless to say I was in heaven. I had a farm in Africa.......... my dream came true.
I've been to Kenya several times. This soundtrack makes me cry because the film is as beautiful as the African sky
We may only be a generation and a half species but this score brings our souls to the threshold of eternity!
My favourite all time ‘ weepy’ based on a true story of course. I plan to go to Africa where I should have gone YEARS ago, cos my aunt lived in Nairobi and I’ve been a lifelong wildlife lover, birdwatcher and ecologist. I plan to go soon , before cancer finishes me off and visit the Masai Mara to see the great migration of wildebeest and zebra and fly over Tsavo where Ffinch Hatton’s plane came down .
‘ I had a farm in Africa under the N’gong Hills ‘. ‘ I must remember to tell Denys that ‘. ! 🥲
John Barry, May you RIP..You have given us so much joy in listening to your music..I can truly say I have lived and loved with your magnificent sounds..Fantasticly Beautiful, It touches my heart and I'm sure every person who has listened to your wonderful music..God Bless!.
I went with my parents to see this in the movies, I was in Rome and I was 12. It made a huge impression on me, those were good times and we didn't know it. Now is all gone. Now that I think about it the past feels like another dimension... Far far away. Why all good things have to end? So sad...
