This entire recording was originally released on MGM Records on a 10" LP record album in 1951 at the time of the movie's release. It was of course in mono sound only, years before Stereo records became available in 1958. I have a copy of this record. Excellent!

Mancini= soundtrack for my young life in the 60's/70's...Also Two for the Road reminded me unfortunately of my parents bad marriage - can never get through that movie dry eyed because of the music and memories but it is so beautiful and tragic

“The Magnificent Seven” (1960) probably don’t need any introduction, due to their worldwide fame. Director John Sturges surely saved a place in pop-culture with his famous remake of Akira Kurosawa’s “The Seven Samurai” (1954). Starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Horst Buchholz, Robert Vaughn and Brad Dexter as the seven in their fight against evil Calvera (Eli Wallach) and his gang, which are terrorizing a village of peaceful Mexicans. Magnificent music came from Sturges (soon to be) composer of choice, Elmer Bernstein. Right from the start he sets up a pulsing main theme that would be not only at least as famous as the movie but would become the prime example of “western” music (especially of the 60s). Now available with splendid sound, expanded and as complete as possible, Bernstein’s hit (and its three sequels, all scored by him) found their way on Quartet Records’ four-disc “The Magnificent Seven Collection”, which is truly a magnificent collection. Une œuvre intemporelle bourrée de joie, d'insouciance, de farces débordante d'ingéniosité .. J'avais 11 ans quand je l'ai découvert a sa sortie cinéma et 42 ans cette année, 30 ans après quasiment jours pour jours, mon émotion est rester intacte face au film visionné ces jours-ci et la bande originale qui ne m'a jamais vraiment quitter . On ne dira jamais assez que Jerry Goldsmith fait partis des "Einstein" de la Musique, un esprit guidé par nos plus lointains ancêtres, toujours en vie, pas loin de nous, en parfaite discrétion, comme d'autres qui se compte en dizaine maximum ( Hanz Zimmer ou Elliot Goldenthal pour ne citez qu'eux ) ... Ce qui me vient surtout c'est l'importance et le bienfait que ces musiques salvatrices, pure, peuvent apporter aux personnes personnes malade , de gros troubles de l'humeur, de dépression, de solitude et de repli, les personnes qui 'n'ont plus aucunes lumières en eux, les personnes âgées, les Alzheimer, etc....

All the characters in the movie are given great scenes and great dialogue equally. The romance between Simmons and Peck is physically understated, but intense in the deeper levels of a love finally found. The story line is true to the Old West myth, and you fall right into it coming alive on the big end little screen.

Charlton Heston somehow got music to fit how iconic and mythic he is on screen. This score is like Morricone level of how it enhances what is on screen.

I think of 1960s America, and it's relationship with France, I had my own dream of America of the time, it may be because of the music and movie of the time, it was a care free time, the real difference between culture and class division was built on the set of rules of post war, the dominance of the society norm was strong, it presented a path to success clearly to the conformists. It has the room for sentimentality and it has the religion and moral boundaries for majority to follow. Value is clear and upheld by the rigidity of society structure and law. It is different now，there is clearly division and incoherent values, between the chasm, there is no room for sentimentality, it is the extremes of possessions of materialistic wellbeing, not much of overlapping value in between.

This movie has more twists and turns than a twisty turny thing.

The tune is wired in your brain.

This soundtrack Gives you chills as soon as you start listening to it.
