The eastern slopes of Mt Zion is dominated by the Assumptionist church of St Peter in Gallicantu (from the latin word Gali - Cantu which means the rooster - crowed). The spot is venerated and believed to be where Caiaphas palace stood. In the Byzantine period the church was named as the church of the tears of Peter to be changed to Gallicantu at the hands of the crusaders.
2000 years ago Upper Mt Zion would have been the dwelling neighbourhood of the aristocracy of Jerusalem which included the high ranked priests serving the Temple of Jerusalem who many off them were ill reputed for misusing their positions for their own interest.
These palaces and Villas had a prime location view over the the Golden Holy of Holies with the back scenes of the Mt of Olives.
Jewish main Holidays like Passover have attracted over 100 thousand or more pilgrims to the Holy City to worship at the house of the Lord, and as we read in the gospels that during these Holidays Jesus was very active and on some occasions such as when he cleansed the Temple, his activities did not meet the kind approval of the Aristocrat Sadducees featuring figures such as the High priest Annas and his son in law Caiaphas the officiating High priest.
They have seen Jesus activity as a threat for the stability of their position and the delicate relation with Rome which in a way granted the Jewish people freedom of worship.
So what would happen when you have a Dead man walking around ? Jesus raising Lazarus from the Dead raised red flags for the Jewish authority !
    Gospel of John 11
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin.
“What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”
49 Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, “You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”
51 He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, 52 and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one. 53 So from that day on they plotted to take his life.
