    Location
    1. The House of Caiaphas, also known as the Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu (cock's crow in Latin), is located on the eastern slope of Mount Zion, just outside the Old City of Jerusalem.
    2. It can be accessed by Malki Tsedek Street
    3. It is administered by the Roman Catholic Church.
    Historical Background
    1. The church consists of four levels: (1) the upper church (2) the middle church (3) the guardroom, and (4) the cistern (dungeon).
    2. According to tradition, the church is the believed site of the House of Caiaphas.
    3. A Byzantine church was built on this site in 457 AD.
    4. It was later destroyed by Muslims in 1010.
    5. It was rebuilt by the Crusaders in 1102 and given its present name.
    6. It was destroyed in 1219 by the Turks.
    7. Later, a chapel was built in 1300.
    8. The church fell in ruins again by 1320.
    9. The church that exists today was rebuilt in 1931.
    Places of Interest
    1. In the Courtyard of the church is a statue that recalls the events of Peter’s denial of Jesus. It shows Peter, the rooster that crowed, a maid, a servant, and a Roman soldier.
    2. On the roof of the church is a rooster on a black cross, a symbol of Peter’s denial of Christ before the cock crowed.
    3. The main sanctuary, located on the first floor, contains large multi-colored mosaics portraying figures from the New Testament.
    4. On the second floor is a chapel that utilizes stone from ancient grottos as its walls. It also has mosaics from a 5th-century Byzantine church that previously existed at this site.
    5. Above the cistern is the Guard Room. It overlooks the cistern (dungeon).
    6. On the lower floor is a cistern (dungeon) where it’s believed Christ was placed the night after He was tried and condemned by Caiaphas.
    7. Ruins and excavations outside the church at ground level.
    8. A walkway with steps that run beside the church that was used for ascending and descending from Mount Zion to the Kidron Valley.
    • They were most likely used by Jesus and His disciples as they went from the Upper Room, where they celebrated the Passover meal on Mount Zion, to the Garden of Gethsemane.
    • Later, Christ would use these same steps as He was brought from Gethsemane, which led through the Kidron Valley, to the House of Caiaphas.
    9. Upper viewing area where many sites can be seen. One of them is the Akeldama Monastery, which marks the place called the Field of Blood. The religious leaders purchased this property with the money Judas through at their feet just before he went and hanged himself.
    10. Upper Room
    11. Mount Zion
    12. Kidron Valley
    13. Garden of Gethsemane

Thank you for this video. I was in Israel and i saw the dungeon where Jesus spent the night. It is extremely difficult to understand that spent the night in that small , dark and moist place. Seeing it personally was very distressing. Thank you for showing it as well as Peter’s statue. It reminded me of just how weak we are without the Holy Spirit. Peter was too fearful to acknowledge that he knew Jesus.

Very humbling, it makes me shiver inside at the thought of the pain he went through for us.
And all we need to do to take this free gift of grace is believe that this act of sacrifice has paid in full our sentence of death that the law prescribes. We have full forgiveness of sins. Past present and future. No works or acts we could do would give us salvation.
If you have not been saved and don’t have a real relationship with Jesus, just believe in your heart, that you are a sinner in need of a saviour, and proclaim with your mouth that Jesus is the son of God, that he is God incarnate always having existed as the Father, Son And Holy Spirit, that he lived a perfect life, never sinned, and that he died on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the third day.
To pay the debt for us.
Then call on his name and ask for forgiveness.
You will then be saved . No one will be able to take you out of the Lords hand ever. You will be going in the rapture very very soon.
Don’t delay it we are not promised tomorrow, we could be die today. Do the above and know where you will spend eternity xx

Two Simple Questions to Ponder ...
Why was Peter warming himself by the fire outside Caiaphas' residence SITTING WITH THE GUARDS (Mark 14:54, Matt 26:58, Luke 22:55), the very same guards who had just arrested Jesus ... and from whom Peter had so recently fled in terror after assaulting one of the arrest party with a sword? And the obvious follow-up question: When recognized repeatedly, why didn't Peter flee the area... and, more surprising still... why didn't the guards immediately ARREST HIM on the spot?!
So... what's really going on here?!
For that matter... Why did the Jewish Priests pay Judas to identify Jesus (Yeshua) when they as well as most everyone else knew who Jesus was and what He looked like? When the arrest party arrived, was it not Jesus who pointed out this very fact: "Jesus said to them, 'Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me like you would an outlaw? DAY AFTER DAY I WAS WITH YOU, teaching in the temple courts, yet you did not arrest me.'" (Mark 14:48-49, Matt 26:55, Luke 22:53)? By this we realize that Jesus KNEW them... and, more importantly, THEY knew Him. Thus, Judas wasn't needed at all. So why was this whole "Judas Kiss" thing concocted? What about Jesus's actual betrayal were they hiding?
So, again... what's really going on here?!
Once you finally take the time to figure out the glaring answers to these two simple questions... the truth behind Jesus's REAL betrayal and His own "apostles'" full complicity in it becomes crystal clear.

    • @MikeyJMJ
      @MikeyJMJ Před 4 lety

I think it's because Pharisees had their own laws and Jewish customs separate from the Roman ones, and the High Priests would use dungeons as punishments for crimes like blasphemy etc. Like a more local version of government but for Jewish people. The Roman Empire allowed the Pharisees to do this to avoid conflict. That's why Pilate sentenced Christ to death not because he wanted to do it but to stop a Jewish uprising if he let him go free.

Awesome video, but just curious About something, there's other videos about where the prison of Jesus is located and some say it's located at the via dolorosa street where jesus walked while carrying the cross, but yet this video is showing that's it's at the house of caiaphas, so just curious to know which one is the real location of the prison where jesus was kept

    • @HolyLandSite
      @HolyLandSite  Před 4 lety +3

Thanks for your question. Yes, there are mainly two locations for where Jesus spent the night before His crucifixion on Passover. Honestly, we really don't know for certain. However, it's most likely He spent the night at the House of Caiaphas because that' where He was tried before the high priest and the Jews. Scripture says that the next day these religious leaders then led Jesus before Pilate. Based upon the Scriptures and the evidence, the most likely place where Jesus spent the night before His crucifixion was at the House of Caiaphas.
