  • lead valley being re-placed with code 5 lead ,old valleys been stripped out de-nailed any nail heads sticking up have been hit down,brushed down, there should have been a breathable felt membrane used to go on top of the old sarking to let the lead expand over the sarking freely customer didnt want the extra cost (the custromer is a plumber to trade)15/19mm tilting fillet used for upstand for lead , lead cut to size,and dressed in the best that this mainly plasterer can do

    Good work brother...but just a word of advice.....give your lead an extra 2inch past the tilt fillet, then dress it back over itself👍🏽

    Nice work, subscribed! I've had loads of valley leaks over the years and multiple roofers attempt to fix it and it still leaks. The valley is where an extension joins the original house and I suspect they did not use an upstand on the valley lead so in heavy rain or when we have strong wind, the rain is forced under the tiles beyond the lead.

    I am so glad I live in South off England and have never had re do a valley the way slates are fitted in Scotland! Direct to the boarding looks a nightmare job ! You must have to pick the perfect day's to do jobs like this .

      Thanks for the advice that was a year ago and last week was the first time using lead since that job so on the health side of it I'm glad I don't use it alot and hopefully your health isn't to bad 👍

    As a fellow roofer mate a wee piece of advice 👍🏻 always put a vapour barrier between the lead and the roof usually A1f bitumen paper or fleece 👍🏻 stops the lead from oxidising underneath as much and gives it better protection 👍🏻 also when you are dressing the lead like that try and use a spoon dresser and perhaps a little heat into the lead which you minimise dressing and no dress marks over the lead 👍🏻

    • @onpointplastering
      @onpointplastering  Před rokem

      I think I mentioned that in one of the videos geotechstyle is what I normally use but only if customer pays for it I do maybe 3 roofs ayear if I'm lucky rest of time is k-rendering and plastering but I do know about barrier between lead and surface cheers anyway 👍

      Can you use a roofing membrane and not the a1f paper? Is the a1f paper waterproof?

    • @jonnyallan1980
      @jonnyallan1980 Před měsícem

      @redx11x not necessarily waterproof, but it stops the lead from rubbing on the exposed wood to allow expansion and contraction without fracturing. Breathable membrane is not supposed to be used as it breaks down pretty fast when the lead starts to oxidise. But these days you find alot of people use it .👎

    Where your hitting the lead with the chase wedge and hammer you’ll definitely have weakend the lead hitting it so hard so many times down the same line

    • @onpointplastering
      @onpointplastering  Před 4 lety +4

      I hear what your saying but the centre of the valley will be worn out before the upstand ever will be as its protected more by the overhang of the slates cheers for your input 👍 that's just my opinion

    • @scotttaylor4006
      @scotttaylor4006 Před 4 lety +1

      Youll find with heat expansion and contraction in the cold weather it will be more likely to rip where i pointed out first as its so thin,only my opinion also
