Estimating a Bulk Order of Mulch WITHOUT a Tape Measure | Here She Grows

For a new garden, mulching is a necessity. It suppress weeds, cools the soil and prevents water evaporation. But after the first year, the garden is on it's own and won't see another two- to three-inch layer of mulch for the rest of it's life. Without mulch, weeds win every time. Once weed seeds see sunlight, it's go time and they'll outcompete any perennial.
So it's mulch time for my new sideyard garden which means I need to order in bulk, not bags. I need about seven yards of mulch and arrived at that estimate without a tape measure. I have one, err had one, but broke it as I was taking my first measurements for the sideyard garden.
No worries! You can walk it off and arrive at a fairly close estimate. Let me show you how!
