  • The Triforce changed in 2017 and Tears of the Kingdom further confirmed how Princess Zelda is now the only Master of it. In this Tears of the Kingdom theory I explain the Triforce once and for all!

I like this theory. It really speaks volumes to Fujibayashi’s interview that Zelda is the strongest character out of all of her predecessors.
If Tears of the Kingdom have a DLC in the Deluxe Edition, I would’ve loved to explore more of Hyrule in the distant past with Zelda as a playable character. It would fit perfectly since the story itself is split into two and set in two different time periods.
Especially from a storytelling point of view. A companion side story would provide us some answers such as the Zonai origins and understanding Ganondorf’s true motives while establishing a connection the Breath of the Wild’s continuity.

And it does make sense that only an artifact created by the goddesses possessed by a goddess would be the only thing to repair the Master Sword, a blade forged by a goddess and then tempered by divine flames of the 3 golden goddesses. To top it off, she's most likely the direct descendant of the original Link who first tempered the blade.

I would disagree on the "BotW/TotK Zelda IS a goddess" part as nothing in the Lore has ever stated any of the many Zeldas within the Royal Family to be any kind of deity or god-like being to be worthy of the title. If having magical powers is enough of been worthy the title of god then Link, Ganondorf, the Sages, the 3 Oracles, the Sheikah, Fortunetellers and even magic able mortals like the Happy Mask Salesman and the Organ Grinder/Guru-guru by all means also deserve the title of gods in their own right.
In summary: other than Skyward Sword Zelda i don't think any of the other Zeldas across the timeline fit the qualifications to be worthy of been called goddesses.

Zelda's power being the full Triforce also could explain the scale of Calamity Ganon's attacks on Hyrule in BOTW, too. It's clear that BOTW and TOTK take place ridiculously far into the future relative to the rest of the franchise, it makes sense that knowledge of the Triforce itself beyond just Hyrulean symbolism has faded. Perhaps after all of Ganondorf's past invasions of Hyrule in the other games, the royal family decided to hide the Triforce within themselves to better protect it against him, and over time, they just forgot that that's specifically the power they possess. But who doesn't forget? Ganon. He attacks Hyrule to the scale in which he does 10,000 years before BOTW because he knows he's gonna be up against someone who wields the full Triforce. What he doesn't account for is Sheikah military technology, and that's of course, as we know, how he was defeated. It takes him 10,000 years to gain enough power to be able to strike with just as much force as he did before, but this time, he knew of the posibility of the technology, which is why he corrupted it, giving him a better shot at taking on whoever in the royal family has the Triforce (in this case, Princess Zelda). Zelda uses the Triforce to hold Ganon back in Hyrule Castle for 100 years, however in that time, Ganon continues to grow his own power against Zelda's might, as he then figures out its her who has the Triforce, banking on her eventually getting tired enough to break his seal, where he can then take the Triforce and once and for all conquer the world.

The thing is owning the Triforce means being Potentially Omnipotent, nothing can stop you except you let yourself get stopped or a force that surpasses you.
The only thing that can surpass Allmight is also Allmighty Powers (another Person with a Triforce or similar) or a Weapon that is potentially immune to Allmighty Powers such as the Master Sword (Like mentioned in the A Link to the Past Manual that it can repell any evil, even the ones posessing the Triforce)
And Calamity Ganon and Ganondorf certainly are NOT Allmighty Gods, and neither does Ganondorf have proven to be immune to Allmighty Powers or a plausible explaination.

Edit: in A Link to the Past and Wind Waker it is also stated that the Triforce serves only those the wishes who touch it first for as long as they live.
Link had to kill an Allmighty Ganon in A Link to the Past to even use the Triforce, and in Wind Waker the King Touched the Triforce and made his wish so that Ganondorf couldnt use it.
So if Zelda is the Mistress of the Triforce, there is no way Ganon could use that power by simply taking it away, for this he needed to kill her first

When I saw Rauru’s light sacred stone and Zelda picking it up…
I’d like to believe Zelda (as the wielder of the triforce) perceived a secret stone immediately. Then, her subconscious wish to understand her ancestors made it become a stone of time (rather than light) in hopes of knowing what happened. When she fell to the void after Ganondorf’s awakening, she must’ve been wishing to find an explanation of why such thing happened. Hence, her “wish” was granted, and perhaps the triforce within her amplified her secret stone of time. That’d explain why she travelled thousands upon thousands of years to the distant past. But I find the secret stone was the key to trigger this marvelous time loop.
I believe the secret stones identify their new owner’s inherent ability (if any), and then they acquire a pattern in a matter of seconds representing the wielder’s power. However, with Zelda, two abilities played a role, and I’d assume Zelda’s wish when she first picked the stone was to understand better the past of the Zonai. Therefore, her wish fostered by the triforce was on the way to be granted: it first transformed into the secret stone of time, and then it allowed to “recall” herself into the distant past. Interestingly, when she swallows her secret stone, her inner wish was to manifest her sacred light powers to bathe the decayed master sword in pure light.
She was brilliant. What I wonder here is how she was able to keep it as a time secret stone when the miracle happened at the ending and she became a human again 🤔

If they encounter triforce between Rauru's time and Breath of the wild, why do they not know about this ? There's still so much we don't know, like this "hero" from 10.000 years. As for Demise "coming back" from within the blade the japanese translation of Skyward Sword makes very explicit remarks that his "essence will _diminish_ over time within the blade" confirming that his soul was been destroyed while sealed within the sword. Demise is *dead* with Ganondorf taking his mantle as the new Demon King.

As to what you said about Ganondorf needing to drain Zelda's power away from her i find ironic that TotK Ganondorf never thought of doing just that at any point in the story of Tears of the Kingdom considering the series's track record of Zelda's power been taken away from her in order to empower another character.

And Calamity Ganon and Ganondorf certainly are NOT Allmighty Gods, and neither does Ganondorf have proven to be immune to Allmighty Powers or a plausible explaination.

    Edit:
And talking about Unlimited Power, Ocarina of Time and the Timeline Split have also proven that there cannot be more than one Triforce at the same time in one and the same Time.
Due to Zelda sending Link back in Time he took the Triforce of Courage unintentionally with him, causing in the Past before Ganondorf got the Triforce, only for it to fall appart the moment Link arrived and sending the Present Piece of Courage in the Future where the Piece of Courage was Missing.
Meaning if Zelda should have had the Full Triforce, her Time Travel would have caused for her Triforce not only to follow her but for another to dissapear inmediately while she goes ro the Future with hers still in her posession as a Dragon...

Yo, if Zelda talked to Link through the Master Sword, that would have been insane. Zelda inhabiting the blade after rebuilding it would have been amazing - instead of her getting de-draconfied. Talk about sacrifice; imagine Link defeats the Demon King, but then has to go on with the Light Dragon roaming the sky to keep him company, but Zelda can still be with Link from within the blade.
But to really amp up the story:: Because of Zelda's time travel and conveyed knowledge and wisdom, the second calamity never happened, all of Hyrule remained in tact, and Link comes down from the sky islands to find the Royal Family alive and well and dealing with the Upheaval. And there's a Zelda, but she doesn't know Link at all, and they figure out how to work together to save Hyrule - all while Link is looking for his Zelda in all the chaos.

That would mean that her grandmother and mother held the full triforce inside of their souls all of Zelda's young life and when her mom died it was suddenly with Zelda. It makes no sense. Furthermore to even have the Triforce you need WISDOM, COURAGE and POWER and Zelda in BOTW had none of these things. Skyward Sword provides the answer "the mark you see on the back of your hand is proof that you are the hero of legend and within you dwells sacred power" that's what BOTW Zelda's mark is, proof of sacred power, in this case not because she's the hero of legend but because she carries the blood of Hylia.

You would have to do more mental gymnastics to not come to that conclusion than to assume that's the reason.
Even if for whatever reason you refuse to accept that, in the same game Zelda has the triforce of wisdom, which she has because it was passed down from OoT Zelda, so my point still stands

I still really don’t like the whole TOTK story. Why can’t Nintendo just do a continuity story with Zelda instead of retconning stuff all the time

If we have a companion piece of Zelda’s adventures in the distant past as well as providing more of the Zonai and understanding Ganondorf’s true motives, it would make the story of Tears of the Kingdom much more interesting.

What do you think they have retconned with Totk story.

Ya, still not buying it. Zelda's powers have still functioned merely like the use of Hylia's power, with the Triforce symbol being nothing more than a fanservice throwback. I don't believe we have actually seen a cannon appearance of the Triforce since SS and ALBW. In fact, as much as it saddens me I fear they may have retired it as a concept.

They can't "retire it" as it's existence is _indispensable_ for the Zelda universe to continue existing as proven with Lorule when it's Triforce was destroyed leading to the kingdom's very universe to start tearing appart creating all the dimensional rifts which Link is able to use to travel into Lorule's dimension. With that stated it is explicitly clear that the Triforce is still relevant to the Era of the Wild as confirmed by the 3 dragons, 3 Springs and the many references to the Golden Goddesses which decorate the entire kingdom in both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Even if one is unwilling to admit the evidence which points at Zelda been the current bearer of the full Triforce they must still aknowledge that the relic exists "somewhere" due to the aforementioned effect it's disappearance would usher to the entire Zelda universe.

@@javiervasquez625First off, I don't appreciate the insinuation that I am being willfully ignorant about this and am "unwilling to admit the evidence". We can have a civil conversation without devolving into Ad Hominem attacks, those never get someone to change their mind. This has nothing to do with being unwilling to admit to supposed evidence. You have found the points given to be sufficient support for the conclusion, I see counterpoints and other conclusions that I deem to be more likely explanations for the given points and thus don't find them sufficient. It is as simple as that.
Yes, ALBW established the Triforce as being a cornerstone of LOZ's reality, which is cool and fits with them being the point the Golden Three left the world; like the knot to tie off a stitchwork. But said reality is still fiction at the end of the day and can be retconned however the Zelda Team wants. Case and point, there are still no solid connections between BOTW/TOTK and the rest of the timeline, and the conflicting points seem to have been more to less intentional to create distance from the headache that is a split timeline (though if I have missed some solid connection I would love to be directed to it). Granted, an obvious retcon would likely get *HUGE* pushback from fans, but something can still be effectively retired by never being used again. I don't want this to be the case, I love the lore around the Triforce and the Golden Goddesses, but it would be intellectually dishonest of me to ignore possibilities I don't like.
Even if the base Power/Wisdom/Courage theme does still exist, the theme and the Triforce are only related, not the same thing, you can have the former without the latter (even if both would be weaker for it IMO). BOTW and TOTK are somewhat weirdly divorced from the larger/previously established LOZ mythology, more so than almost any other mainline game still set in Hyrule. The Springs still just have Goddess (Hylia) statues and nothing that even hints at the Golden Three, just names that match their threefold theme. Thus the Springs still have more of the appearance of being fanservice for those who know the larger lore than direct connections to previously established mythology. And TOTK actually made the Dragon connection WORSE with the heavy implication that they are just people who previously ate Secret Stones, as opposed to having any connections to the Golden Goddesses. As for these other "many references to the Golden Goddesses which decorate the entire kingdom" that you mentioned, you are going to have to elaborate on that, because the Springs and the Dragons are the only potential ones that I have even heard of.

Doesn't matter if you "buy it" bro. The Triforce is literally right there

@@HipnotikHylianIncorrect, the IMAGE of the Triforce is there, not the Triforce itself. In all the LOZ games using a 3D engine every literal depiction of the Triforce that I know of shows it is a 3D object, heck even ALTTP's into shows it as 3D. The Triforce on the back of BOTW/TOTK Zelda's hand has never been shown to be anything more than an image of the Triforce, even if magically elevated off the skin.
