- one of my all time favorite artistic heroes. JC Leyendecker enjoy this part 3!! Some great info for aspiring artists in here...especially if you plan on getting into any sort of commercial art now...it's never been more competitive. So some observations about the current state of working in today's climate.

Thanks so much for these, I LOVE this series.
I'm a fine artist and have not seen any of Leyendecker's work other than the Cream of Wheat painting. I'm illuminated by this. Thank you for sharing.
Speaking of Mucha..I see Mr Leyendecker also went through an Art Nouveau period.
What?! Some folks don't watch all 3 of your videos on Leyendecker, or stop a few minutes in...? Maybe Mom called them to dinner. I couldn't stop. (Guess I qualify for the "hardcore" designation, eh?) Great to be able to pause and study so many I've never seen before. Thank you so much for posting these inspirational images and also your inspirational commentary. Much appreciated.
I love this stuff. Had to buy this book, my favorite Drew Struzan pieces are the ones that seem very heavily Leyendecker influenced. One of my favorite aspects from fine artists is how an artist can convey so much character with the fewest amount of brush strokes, Anders Zorn, John Singer Sargent, Lucian Freud. etc. Such a masterful technique. Especially with alla prima studies.
N. C. Wyeth looks like he influenced one of my favorite artists, Jeffery Catherine Jones
oh yeah totally. Drew early on was very obviously inspired by Leyendecker./ As he went along he totally got his own thing though...ALL the artists you mentioned I love...so we have super similar tastes in art!! I have a few of the big Jeffrey Catherine Jones books...so at some point I will break those out!
Love the book and your reflection of what it takes to stay on top of what you love to do. Your words about valuing your work and knowing people may want to pay you what they feel your work is worth goes a long way. Thank you for the honesty most never speak and exposing artwork most comic fans never get. Be Blessed and Thanks Again!
Thank you for the 3-part video! I enjoyed each of them thoroughly along with your commentary! It's very much appreciated!
Badass thanks, man!
Eric Powel,Bilal,Corben,Jeff Jones,Barry Windsor Smith,Burne Hogarth,Alex Raymond,Hal Foster!
Give me the fine artist cartoonist every time!!!!!
By the way,I'm about to start a graphic novel that takes place during the late 19th century Chicago world's fair and have been wrestling with the epic scope of tackeling Chicago architecture, the gorgeous, ornate gowns of the time, and the fair itself,to say nothing of the author's portrayal of Bill Cody's wild west show. These videos have already solved so many problems. I am indebted to you and your sense of taste, history and esthetic insight.
wow so cool; thank you and best of luck with the book...just stay focused and keep working on it~!
Beautiful artwork. The female comic fans I've run into were usually familiar with the Pre Raphelites like Waterhouse. Muncha maybe if they liked the Job ad artwork or 4 Seasons and saw it on a poster, but very few would know of Leyendecker or even Booth.
right. But I think if people continue to share their work it won't be totally forgotten. I was lucky enough to meet people who shared things with me. Then you end up doing your own research and end up finding tons of "new" old artists you might not have seen. it's so fun!@
Love his stuff, his rendering style is so fresh still looks modern now. I'm definitely getting this book! I picked up the Giraud book after your last video too.
awesome! Thanks for the post Dylan and enjoy the books!
You know man, I never really thought about it but you're right. The competition has encompassed the entire globe now. I just hope there are more things to compete FOR to match. Yeesh!
I'm a long time Leyendecker fan too. I'm an artist as well. I do J C Leyendecker Master copies. They are speed paintings, have a look
I'm not learning much about L. while you talk about the current state of the art business. I came to this to learn more about ostensible subject of the video only to hear you bloviating on about contemporary art business. Stay on topic!
Great video series ,you hit home on alot of things I'm questioning about my artistic style. I deeply influence by other artist I forget to find who I'm am. I guess that the whole journey of life.
Keep up the good work
Peace
I just seen the 3 videos without loging in. :S... I was thinking on buying in a few years ago and now I feel like getting it! And the J Scott Campbell thing. That Roadshow is bs. I wonder if artists are going to start doing that from now on... Conventions gotta have that face to face interaction. =/
sweet...thanks for watching the videos and then logging in to comment!
Dont worry about it not "focusing" on leyendecker, the only thing unforgivable in the vids is being boring, and as much as i love picking on you, your videos are never boring 😉
Do you know if he went to an art school ?
here's more accurate info...so born in Germany but his family moved to Chicago....he grew up there after age 8...went to the Chicago Art Institute (but was already working professionaly) and then moved to Paris and studied at the Académie Julian...for 1 year...so there you go!
Can you name the names in a private message, just exploring.
