The way they started us out as viewers just as confused as the people he was encountering made me want to turn it off. After episode 1, it got much better though.

      He must be one of those brash and undisciplined warrior monks you don't hear about. There's alot of whining, and temper tantrums, and virtually no abstract thinking from Danny, which is all okay if the action scenes are good enough, after all they have to be for a show about a hero who's power is kung fu magic... But no, there are a couple stand out fights, but the majority of the action sequences were sloppy and uninspired.

    I love Jessica Jones and Daredevil equally. They're very different concepts and very different shows. Jessica Jones could legitametly be its own stand alone detective series that's completely unrelated to the defenders and i wouldn't mind. It has a very mysterious and mature vibe. Daredevil is more action packed and blood crazy. Not to mention the characters are to die for. Foggy? Wholesome as hell. Stick? Very entertaining. I feel like in order to like one show over the other is to like one concept over the other, and that is crazy martial arts and blood Vs eerie detective drama.

      Yeah, I loved Iron Fist. He's my favorite comic book character ever and even though this was a little bit of a let down, I really enjoyed this version of him. Everyone always says the fight scenes are awful (and yes, I enjoy Daredevil's more) but they felt powerful like an actual warrior monk would use those fighting styles. Daredevil's was more brutal and hardcore but it wasn't as well rounded. Here's my ranking of the shows.
      1- Iron Fist
      2- Jessica Jones (Pretty much tied with Iron Fist)
      3- Daredevil S.1
      4- Luke Cage (First half is tied with Daredevil)

      I just wish Danny would have had a clear character motivation from the jump. Had he come home to fight the Hand, turned down control of Rand, learned the Hand infiltrated Rand and THEN tried to take over the company, that would have been compelling, because he would have had to fight evil with something beside his fists. Instead he shows up, wants his company back, but doesn't seem to care about being the IF. Colleen is the best thing about the show.

    • @seaofseeof
      @seaofseeof Před 6 lety +23

      Yeah, Luke Cage gradually fell apart from a solid first episode. Whereas Iron Fist was plagued by constant ups and downs, but it had no real glue to hold it together (bad fight choreography, really dumb decisions made constantly by Danny, some really bad acting, meh...). For fans of the Netflixverse, I would recommend watching it because it's the only show so far that actually had an interesting expansion of the universe first setup in DD1 (different factions of the Hand, the way they did the immortality thing etc). But I would not recommend it in general.
      On rewatch, DD2 doesn't hold up either. Punisher and Fisk are great. As is some of the cinematography as well as the fight choreography in the first first episodes. But wow, does it ever start to decline big time with a really bad and poorly acted Elektra, badly written dialogues and a really unnecessarily convoluted plot that depends on too many coincidences. And DD1 is one of my favorite seasons of telivision I've ever watched. So it's not like I say it lightly.
      Still looking forward to Defenders though.

    • @ryanarey
      @ryanarey Před 6 lety +25

      The fact the showrunners didn't know what to do with ninjas in DD2 doesn't mode well for the Defenders (same showrunners). Justin I agree that According to the Marvel Netflix shows they are the weakest. But I'm seeing a lot of people call them bad/trash, which just isn't true.
      Their quality is still higher than most (if not all) the DC shows which are all considered hits on the CW.

    • @capitanawesome44
      @capitanawesome44 Před 6 lety

      Wish I could agree. But I took a while watching the first part of Iron Fist which I totally was waiting for because it was just boring to me. I know I am comparing it to great material earlier but thats how it goes. If DD was not good I would not have sat through all of other shows. Luke Cage was so great early on with the first story ark with Cotton Mouth. After he leaves it went down hill. Why do I care about Cage's half brother? Cuz he is crazy?
      What is there really to like about Iron Fist? Cuz he is a giant child who wants to run a corporation into the ground and he is the most gullible super hero ever? Me and my girlfriend just would cringe over how anyone could get this guy purchase snow living in Antarctica. Wing was the BEST part of the show until she started following Rand's lead.

    • @peculiarmann6884
      @peculiarmann6884 Před 6 lety

      Alex Luke Cage's half brother was important to the story, because he was the one that set Luke's whole story in motion. It was because of him that Luke was sent to Prison (where he got his powers). & It was because of their dad's treatment of Stryker that he hated Luke.
      As for Iron Fist, & In context with the show. It made sense for Danny to be conflicted & child like. He didn't grow up like Davos for the first 10 to 12 years of his life. He was a Billionaires child... Which means he had access to basically anything he wanted. A plane crash later. He now has dead parents & nothing of his own.
      Also, he never properly grieved his parents like any child Danny's age would. The monks then teach him to lock all his emotions away.
      Kun-Lun being isolated from the rest of the World didn't give him any room to grow. Basically, Danny is still a child emotionally & having to learn to grow up once he returns to NY... It actually leaves room for quite a bit of growth for the character.
      By the end of season 2 he could be the Iron Fist everyone expected him to be. Season 1 was necessary in getting him there. And, I think they did a good job getting that point across.

    • @capitanawesome44
      @capitanawesome44 Před 6 lety +1

      @Peculiar Mann. I do not disagree that the character is important to Luke Cage I will just say the story did a piss poor job of making me care about him. I cared about Cotton Mouth and his murderous cousin/politician. You can make vengeance a story motivational point and misdirected anger but gotta show some empathy for the character who hates to at least get people to understand where he is coming from. Just cuz he hates Cage does not give reason to why he wants to rule over everyone with a fist or kill everyone.
      Iron Fist, we will have to Agree to disagree here. Rand's childlike wonder would be tolerable if he was this big hearted guy who went around helping others and except for helping lower the price of the new drug he didn't do anything to help others in any direct way. Being out of touch is one thing, being completely oblivious when you are the CHOSEN WARRIOR MONK is quite another. You can't expect that you will get multiple seasons to tell what should be ONE season story ark.
      I know he has emotions to work through but can it be done in a manner that can at least illustrate a well trained warrior monk coming to grips with his past and not a giant child who trusts EVERYONE. Wing was awesome in the show but she went overnight from not wanting anything to do with Rand to being all about him and betraying her master for him. At the end of the day I leaned more towards other ppl in the sense that I did not really like his character. Above all else ppl gotta at least like ya to root for ya and sit through 13 episodes. His show took the longest time for me to finish and was the only one I watched the day it was released. Is it a horrible show no. Could have been better with a more flawed character not just a childish one. Maybe to see your points more I will rewatch the series but I am not crossing my fingers.

    And Danny "never worked hard for anything in his life?" Did you even watch the fucking show? He beat a dragon to get the iron fist. In fact, he's the only one who earned his powers and not through some happy accident.
    Matt didn't earn his powers. He trained to use it as a strength AFTER the accident blinded him and gave him powers. It was, for intents and purposes, an ACCIDENT.

Luke Cage is decent at its best and IF is bad under any point of view: bad choreography, acting, no comic relief and the plot kept dragging a passive protagonist trying to give him something to do. It's not even that this is my opinion or yours: these are facts. Proven by critics, stunt choreographers and actors. You may like it but it still will suck.

    Daredevil season one was amazing. Season two was mostly just more of the same, went on way too long but with some worthwhile moments thanks to Punisher. Jessica Jones could have been accomplished in half the episodes, was hard to enjoy because of how much it dragged. I skipped Luke Cage and Iron Fist on suspicion they'd be a continuation of this downward trend in quality, and reviews more or less confirmed that. But I'm actually looking forward to The Defenders since I'm hoping Marvel have learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn't from all the previous series'. Plus they're doing it in fewer episodes than usual, so there oughta be less drag and more actual story to enjoy. Thanks for catching me up!

    Wait, since when did Iron Fist never work hard for anything? His parents died, he was orphaned in a strange place, yet through sheer hard work and skill climbed to the top of that society and became their top warrior. And then as Danny after his parents died and he disappeared he had to work to prove his identity, fight against the people who killed his parents and took over their business, and regain control of his dead parent's business empire.
    I mean, I know the show had it's slow parts and weak points, including some of the acting and writing and fight scenes. But it's not like Danny didn't work for anything at all and just stumbled into everything. Seems like people are just looking for reasons to hate Iron Fist and the character, which is unfortunate, as Iron Fist and his relationship with Luke Cage was some of the earliest and most important work done in comics in terms of addressing social issues and racial divides.

    Daredevil was honestly the best one of them all. Couldn't even finish the other ones because they were so slow and campy

      sneakymokey I agree. Daredevil has the best action sequences as well. Charlie Cox kills the role. A close second for me is Luke Cage. I hated how Luke is such a pushover && boring at times, but Cottonmouth && Diamondback are some of my favorite villains in the entire MCU. They were so compelling that to me they saved Luke Cage's show. Jessica Jones is right up there with Luke Cage because the story was engaging seeing as how it was all psychological. && while not as terrible as everyone perceives it to be Iron Fist was kinda boring. I forced myself to watch a lot of it, but I did still find some enjoyment in it && appreciated it for what it was.

    Thank you! Was hesitant about starting Defenders because I couldn't remember any of the key plot points from the second Daredevil series and really didn't want to sit through Luke Cage or Iron Fist (excited for Defenders because I liked Daredevil and Jessica Jones THAT much! ). Thanks for catching me up!

    I liked Iron Fist more than Luke Cage.... there I said it. I barely watched like 4 episodes of LC before I gave up. But I do think that Luke is a better character than Danny. It's just that they made his show so boring. I loved Luke in Jessica Jones, but I was just too into the hand plot to really be interested in whatever arms deals or corruption thingy they had in Luke Cage. That being said, I also thing that the resolution of the hand and their big plan was lame af now that the defenders came out. I feel betrayed. Waiting so long for... that hahaha I also think that each individual show was better than the defenders, even tho the characters shined. They're just SO GOOD. The plot was lame.... and they wasted Sigourney Weaver. They should just keep making Daredevil and Jessica Jones and then make Luke Cage and Iron Fist have a show together with each of them popping up on each show once in a while and maybe teaming up for finales and stuff.

      Watch Daredevil Season 1, fast forward through any Foggy or Karen scenes, but especially any Foggy and Karen scenes. Watch Jessica Jones, but only half pay attention to the Cop Character's Scenes. Watch Daredevil Season 2, do not under any circumstance try to understand the Electra Arc, it makes no sense. Only Pay attention to the Foggy and Karen scenes that relate to the Punisher. Watch the first half of Luke Cage, and then only half pay attention to the rest.

      Jessica Jones is a great character study and a metaphor for surviving sexual abuse. David Tenant is the best marvel villain, or at least top 3.

      it's not really something different, in fact it's been done way too many times. Batman Begins, Arrow, Dr. Strange, they all involve some kind of rich guy who ends up in tragedy and finds their way to asia and learn secret asian stuff and come back as superheroes.
