At the end, the interviewer forgot to say: "I will tell you that we'll call or email you soon to let you know whether you got the job, but actually, you won't hear from us ever again!"
If they don't call you, they don't want to hire you. Don't call or email them to follow-up - it won't improve your odds and it comes across as both desperate and aggressive.
I say this as someone who has hired at least 500 people and worked with various companies to help them hire people.
The thank you letter is a nice touch, but it's also archaic - maybe good for an entry level job, but as you get higher in position - it looks desperate and hurts your ability to negotiate on salary. A person in demand doesn't need to send a thank you because they create the narrative that the company needs them more than the employee needs the employer.
Expecting a call from an interviewer is nice, but it's not going to happen. The interviewer is very likely overwhelmed with work - that's why they're hiring people, so they don't have the time to call everyone they interview and thank them and give them an update.

@@ricktyman4709 this is completely false! I have gotten 2 jobs thanks to following up. I took multiple job hunting courses in 2 different universities and spoke to a counselor at ANOTHER 3rd university and they ALWAYS say to send a thank you letter within 24-48 hours following an interview AND a follow up email in few weeks if you haven't heard back. Even today as a supervisor, I appreciate it more when I am hiring someone who sends me a thank you letter cuz it shows that they really want this position.
@@endlessserenade4491 I think it really depends on the type of manager you are. And unfortunately that's not something people necessarily know. I am taking a guess here and say the middle aged and older managers appreciate a follow up email (which isn't wrong). Younger managers couldn't care less for the reasons mentioned by @Rick Tyman.

For my current job, the interviewer just basically said "we're desperate for people, so as long as you call us in about a week to set up your starting date, you have the job." And then spent the rest of the time pretending we were in an interview when people walked by so she could have a break during a rush. Most honest interview, best employer I've had.

I work casino. Talk about honest interview. Ones experience is obvious. You can literally sit and say anything reasonable. Money, perks, conditions, needs. You do not have to sugar coat anything. Whilst slurping coffee, and stretching. No BS

Pretty accurate. I've been on both sides and I like being interviewed better - it's actually a lot of fun. If I could do people's interviews for them I would.
I have to hire people these days, so I hate doing the interview. I yearn for people to be honest - I'm more likely to hire you if you admit you aren't familiar of something but are willing to learn.
Biggest mistake people make is in not talking specifically about what they do. They talk in generalities about the team does this and that, instead of saying I did this. If you talk in generalities and never mention what you do, most interviewers will assume you are lying about what you do and that it was really the team that did the work and you're trying to take credit.
It's ok to inflate what you did or to dramatize the results, but it's flat out wrong to claim you know how to do something that you never did. It's very obvious when someone lies about doing something (e.g., "I improved the company's SEO" - oh really? How and how did you measure that - and then they can't answer or give a very incorrect response that shows they never did it, and the interview is over.).
