With the release of House of the Dragon on HBO Max, Game of Thrones is back! Dragons fly again, in the prequel story about when House Targaryen ruled the land of Westeros. However, Davis is still feeling hurt after the end of Game of Thrones Season 8, and isn’t as interested to watch. But his inner fanboy won’t give up without a fight. Will the lure of pop-culture streaming TV and FOMO win?

As someone who read Fire and Blood some years ago, HoTD has actually managed to surprise me with several plot lines and characterizations 🤷🏽♀️
It’s actually really cleverly done. If you hadn’t read the books, you’re going to get surprised by everything that happens. But if you have read the books, you’re going to still be surprised, because it doesn’t depict what was written as having happened - rather, it depicts how things “really” played out.

I’m gonna be honest, I know how the timeline plays out and I just don’t feel like getting invested in a bunch of characters who are almost all going to die horribly for no good reason other than the Targaryen bloodline has to be thinned out to a trickle.
After the despicable end of GoT, I originally had decided not to watch HoT, simply to not spoil the good read that I had with Fire and Blood. After a surprisingly positive review I then did decide to give it a watch and was extremely happy.
Honestly think, that in many aspects, this show actually managed to improve the story. At least one can not deny that they honestly tried and that it is a worthy add to the "franchise".
@@Wattywatasaurus No. It depicts how things really played out in *the show universe*, not the canon. For example, the ages are obviously changed and you cannot say the history book lied to us. Hence this isn't what really happened in the books. Only in the shows.

There's way more to a story than "wanting to be surprised" and the whole "I know how it ends" thing never seemed like a fair criticism for me, certainly not enough to drop a piece of media that's otherwise good.

I've loved most prequels that I've watched/read/played. The "we already know how it ends" aspect of them has never really lessened my enjoyment.
Man the fact that I know what happens is exactly why I jumped at HoTD, the dance of the dragons and the blackfyre rebellions are the 2 civil wars in ASOIAF history I most wanted to see play out on screen. I have not been disappointed fucking loving it
I am tired of prequels for that reason though. The writers are limited in how the story eventually goes, because we all know what happens.
Star wars prequels was fine, but then somehow, everyone thought they needed to do it too.
Nah, you already know what's going to happen, you how things are going to end up. Sure you can make up some details, but in the end it's just that, details. Prequels are only welconed when there's a dark spot, some unknown event in the past that is essential to understand current events.
The real tragedy is that someone would settle watching House of the Dragon when there's literally a Super Street Fighter II game RIGHT THERE.

It's a wonderfully fleshed out concept . I'd say my only complaint is that you seem to be completely in favor of luring the audience out of the franchise's mystical setting and into a knock off version of our past reality. I like the idea of progressing the technological aspects of the show but I think you'd probably do better by conserving the dragons and/or magic and blending them into your current layout.
I haven't watched the show yet but I think something like "Arcane" 's world building would be a decent target set your sights on IMHO. Once again, I think you have a fantastic story-line set up; it would feel more in line with series, overall, if you committed to preserving a bit more of the mysticism... After all, there are no dragons or magic in real life.

Yeah...S8 was a season on GoT I would want to erase completely BUT HoD holds sway over me for a reason and I am hoping to NOT be betrayed due to the fact that the book this is based on is DONE. I remember house of dragon got alot backlash when it was announced cause how bad everyone include me hate season 8 but after watch couple episodes, I like it and many do to and it way better then ring of power and season 8 and I love the fact when they announced this show HBO made it public that D&D are not made this show and won't be any game of throne show

Here’s the difference between Seasons 6-8 of GoT and HoTD. D&D ran out of books and thus had to write whole new original material. HoTS doesn’t have D&D being involved and has an actual clear ending. All they need to do is follow the book
if something becomes popular it actually becomes unpopular therefore there is no point watching something popular and if you dont believe me ask fidget spinners or among us or fortnite or pokemon go or anything else that has been popular. Popularity is something that comes and goes it never stays so there's no point even valuing popularity just be happy :)
I remember after S8 some people were hyped about the prospect of prequels in the works and I was not with them at all. I had lost all interest in all things GoT after that dumpster fire of an ending. House of the Dragon came out and I didn't even bat an eye. Then I watched Knights Watch reviews of the episodes on CZcams and thought it sounded good enough to check out. So far, it is honestly so much better than S6 and 7, let alone S8. It is not early GoT good, but it is easily better than most of the garbage that comes out today by orders of magnitudes. I did not expect to be so happy about GoT's return, but I am.

No Man don't fall for it. even if it's better it's still ultimately leading up to the disappointing crash and burn of an ending season 8 was, this spin off won't erase it. Besides you don't need to worry about relevance by skipping it. The most popular show right now is Yellowstone not this.

There's memes about literally anything
Having watched 5 episodes, I realized it's not a show about my favorite fantasy world with knights, castles, dragons and wars. It's a show about a woman deprived of power because of her sex. Then about a young woman threatened to be deprived of power because of her sex. It's also a show about 'in your face' child birth (if they could stick the camera further between the women's legs they would) and then about the mandatory infusing of just the right percent of lgbtq2000+. I simply can't watch another minute as it's yet another American show that's part of a force indoctrination for emphasizing *women* and *lgbtq+* above plot, reason, historical sense or just common sense. Men are severely marginalized in this show, testosterone is the root of all evil and it just doesn't make sense anymore to watch. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about equal rights, I'm against discrimination but can't you just give me a show that makes actual sense, you know.. that corresponds with thousands of years of actual human history?

Like we're meant to care about the plight of those with the least reason to complain but ignore the problems of the masses (in the real world and in fiction).
Game of Thrones had a far wider range of perspectives than House of the Dragon (though it still came down to royalty). Also Rhaenyra is the closest thing to a viewpoint character and protagonist in the series (so far based on screentime) but she's also the least likeable character because she's exceptionally privileged and whiny about what she doesn't have at the same time. Is this the character we're meant to empathise with?

First of all, you are aware that these rich, powerful people are ruling over a realm and they are the ones deciding what goes in the realm and thus the lives of the common folk. A lack of political stability will mean war will come along, meaning the common folk will suffer and people die so yes, I think we should care about them because their actions dictate the lives of millions of people. Also, I’m fucking sick of the notion that just because someone is rich doesn’t mean they can’t complain. Rich people are actual humans too in case you forgot with their own struggles. Just because they’re not living in the street with less than 2 dollars doesn’t mean their issues aren’t worth anything and what person would not complain about being forced to marry against your own will. Marriage is a sacred vow that binds two people together for life so it’s a pretty big damn deal and at least common people can choose when they want to marry and at least common people and noble men aren’t looked down upon when they have sex when and with whoever they want unlike noble woman who are forced to remain virgins till their wedding night and finally, by your logic, we can’t have any story based off rich people because their lives are apparently so perfect and apparently they’re demons and not humans. Oh, and this show is based off a book so I think you should be complaining more about the book, not the show

I left at got season 7 and read berserk instead. I think im hurt more than the average got fan as i did sit through those cgi seasons and we all know of the mangas current predicament and the tragic feath of Kentaro Miura. Still im fine with obscurity that just means freedom
To meh , it didn't grab me with first epp I'll binge at season end if I hear enough word of mouth but I'm not rushing to it
I don't know if somethings's wrong with me, but I seem to be the only person I know, that just does not like this show AT ALL.
Maybe it's also because of the super weird german dub imo, but... I think the story develops in such a fast pace, there were so many random time jumps for which they could have at least implemented amazing flashbacks or just don't make it seem so abrupt each time. I think they leave no time at all to bond with characters. In german they actually also changed a couple names to just random german names: one which I really escalated on was in Season 1, they named I think Rhaenyras son Joffrey to "Gottfried" which is HORRIBLE. Why the heck would You switch names in this kind of show? Makes no frikkin sense. I try to watch it. But I simply do not enjoy it at all. And I am not a "Read the books, they're better" Person. I did not read the books.

Everytime I watch the new episode, I first need to watch a recap on YT, because I don't remember shit because my brain just won't leave it in.
The show isn't very good (bad even on s02), but why would you willingly butcher something by watching it in dub? Subtitles or don't bother.
At least it's better than Rings of Power.
