- Hey Good People,
I had a couple Acuras in the shop this week. Now, I know they are known for their durability, but I think this Acura MDX was pushed to its limit. The Reality of it is, no matter how durable or resilient a car is, you can not neglect the maintenance. It can be dangerous.
In this video, I go through my diagnostic process and get overwhelmed with where to start lol
Leave you comments below! I love hearing from you guys!
I get that times are tough for some people, but these are the types of death traps we're sharing the road with. This is driving 70mph down the interstate next to your family. It's nice living in a state that doesn't require safety inspections, but I see where it might help get a rolling heap like this off the road. This is the type of customer that will decline all the safety related repairs, but be back next week to drop a grand in it to fix the AC. Not having any money doesn't give someone the right to drive this rolling death trap down the road and kill someone else.
exactly that why every state every country need to have required inspections. cause a high percentage of population are children when it comes to maintenance. if you catch it early it doesn’t cost a lot.
How cheap do you have to be to not want you to change the oil 😂
Sir I Lenny thank you very much because, I've learned a lot my 2011 cadillac escalade was setting for a whole winter, until you told me, about my whole truck wouldn't start it was the MAIN FUSE LIKE YOU SAID.
16:00 you not overwhelmed.... This vehicle is just over ever maintenance threshold it is SHEESH
Once he spun that wheel on the Acura I would have been scared to go up under that car. I watch a ton of car videos but this is one of the reasons why I’m not a mechanic lol.
that is a tough one Alex, so many safety related problems and a customer with not a lot of money, hard to just do to minimum, that is still going to be a big bill, I am with you, I see no way to solve the customers problems and have the car be safe when it leaves for a low price, it has me stumped too, let me know how it turned out, best of luck to you!!!
From what I’ve seen a little past halfway MDX needs 2 struts motor mounts 2 axles oil pan tuneup transmission flush at someone’s discretion cause being that black a flush might make it not move again.
Thanks doctor and Mrs for another good story. My 4Runner is only half dogged out bc it has had good maintenance including brake pads calibers new drums new master still mushy brakes like moms old 56 Plymouth used to be. The brakes still work. Built 8/99
Big fan, love the videos, and i especially love your calm demeanor. Very knowledgeable man. Big ups Alex. Hope you see this !
I see it! Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it!
That’s 21 year old transmission fluid right there, buddy. Sheesh
People think they save money by skipping service but penny wise Pound foolish,it cheaper to buy a new car lol😂
Thank you Alex. My daughter has an older Camry that I help her maintain. I teach her to always address an issue as it comes up; be proactive when the car is on the lift every 5000 miles for oil changes. Look for problems at each 5000 interval to catch small issues before they become major safety issues. Don't wait on repairs and don't let them snowball like this Acura. Thanks again Alex!
Alex splashin on us with the waves 🌊 🌊🌊
Maintenance is very important
Ol fat Dutchman says should not be driving that on the road. It's one of the most unsafe vehicles I have ever seen! Wow, lucky no one has been injured. You rock, sir! A lot of money 💰 needs to be spent to get that vehicle to be road worthy. If it can be.😢
Every-time I hear money pit I feel like watching Scotty Kilmer. And man from the looks of it those Honda/Acura V6s are solid if it withheld that much abuse at 248k miles
4:55 Everybody is not trying to rip you off GET THAT OIL CHANGE
Struts gone 💪💪💪💪💪💪
Alex said a dogged out Acura lol
4 seconds in and im laughing😂 great start
Alex out here breaking ankles again 😂😂😂
I'm told by a mechanic that it's better/common practice to swap out the whole Hemi than to do lifters and cam once the engine starts limping, and the engine is over 100k?
Yeah- mixed thoughts from mechanics. I personally do them. Some guys don’t like too. Matters on how long its ran with a collapsed lifter/how much metal has circulated around the engine.
🤣🤣 basketball game on point 💯👌🏽😂 that thing is crazy...! 😲 Everything was wrong lol 🤦🏾♂️ God bless her 💯
I just did an oil change on my Honda CRV today. LiquiMoly engine flush and additive was done as well.
I want to learn car mechanics and become like you one day. How do I start and where do I go? Do you recommend an institute or college?
Please Help
Get a job as a helper in a repair shop and observe. Ask about training programs. Go to community College if you can, but it's always better to get company -sponsored training.
You can get self tapping oil drain plugs for repair plugs
5:29 im very familiar with the phares putting the car out to " pasture" my uncle lived in the country and when a vehicle died it was pushed aside in the yard usualy near a tree ( because I guess they think the tree will protect it) and it just sits
19:27 ok that's SHAN.... ITS THATS HOW YOU SPELL IT..... HIIIII SHAN..... BEAUTIFUL
Dude, that passenger side axle. That is crazy!! How the heck does someone do that!?
turn up the tunes and drive!
The Money Pit movie featuring this Acura!
Total neglect by the owner.
Any vehicle can make it past 200,000 miles with maintenance and attacking the known weaknesses early
A money pit means it's a loss but on the other hand for me I have a 1995 Lexus ES300 so far I put $3,000 into it I got the car for free it passed smog and it's an old car it has 108,000 mi on it but it's worth it to me because it only has one catalytic converter for me I say it depends on what kind of car it is
You are correct , that is why I like the really old Japanese cars , like the Datsuns and Toyotas , especially the ones from the pre CAT Era .
If a person can stay under 6 cents per mile , [ not including gas and insurance ] , with minimum shop time , they have done good . . Sub 4 Cents per mile maintenance means that they are very efficient .
I am also including the purchase price in my equation .
That is just my personal take on the matter , and it is based on my experience with cars .
Aside from the transmission, If you’re good with your hands it’s not hard to work on most of the things this Acura needs. It’ll probably cost the owner about $4000 to get it up to snuff.
For what they sell as new nowadays I’d just keep fixing the old cars less computers and are built much more Solid.
I’m guilty for holding on to a money pit car, mechanic’s ask me if it’s okay to do something and then they cringe a little I have a 25 year old pickup truck Both rear doors on the super cab wouldn’t open fix one side $1000 fix both sides $2000 I asked them to fix both sides. I have been driving this old truck since 2006 and I like it.
Maybe too much but it’s paid for and it dented and rusty but still a good daily driver. I check Facebook market place and see prices for 20 year old pickup trucks are starting to sink to reasonably priced 5000-7500
Pandemic prices were 12,000-15,000 for the same era trucks.
I was about to bring my Acura to you today, needs power steering hose replace and valve cover gaskets
Would you do a video or do you have a video up, where if you were looking at a used car to purchase. What and how you would inspect it? Not from a perspective of having it in your shop on a lift, but as if you walked onto a car lot or you were at someone's house. What would you look at/inspect with limited ability to poke around.
This may help : czcams.com/video/TNilosT-HAI/video.htmlsi=10z6XDG5XnpIg-6U
Remember when jump boxes weighed just as much as batteries and usually only lasted 2 jumps
I love these cars but if it's got this many things wrong with it then it's not worth fixing unless you can do the work yourself, and even then it may be questionable!
Money Pit to me means you're literally throwing your money into a burning pit so you might as well give that money to me 🤑🤑
So honest man,I love it !!
I have never seen an axle like that , that should have been addressed a long time ago, that did not happen today
Alex got a low rider
with a suspension that bad, just curious, what would happen if she hit a pothole on the highway at 65-70+mph? here in CA after it rains, huge potholes start appearing everywhere even on the highways.
It bounces like a lowrider 😅 just like what Alex showed at the beginning of the video
I know from personal experience when my son's Mazda 3 was introduced to multiple pot holes...
Blew out the front struts and cracked the rear shock mounts (known cheap casted aluminum mounts on the back)
That shit bouncing like the new Maybach truck
Money Pit = Get rid of it!
Most second or third owners of those accuras tend to dog them out. Those our well known to be dogged out.
money pit - you run
Bruh! Who needs bloopers.....
8:33 at this point in the video..... I'm kinda with Alex on this..... I don't think he can save this patient..... Looks like a lot of neglected MAINTENANCE....
I didn't bring my own knee to my surgeon when he replaced it. A shop can't guarantee someone else's parts.
It's understood that a shop will make a certain amount of profit on parts that they are installing. Please don't expect people to work for free folks!
6:47 AWWW..... RIP TO THE SCANNER
This makes me so mad when people Neglect their Honda's or Acura But if it was a Chevy or Chrysler products i can understand.
😂
Money pit..... Never ending fixing... until all is fixed property all at once. Mainly any part of the suspension that gives the vehicle the handling and storing power. Not maintaining the suspension or any part of it, is just asking for some serious damage personally or directly or indirectly.....
At least that can be mentioned since they asked for an inspection.
Whenever I provide parts for my mechanic to change, I provide OEM parts only.
I’ve seen an Acura worse then this here in the south 😂dude got everything fixed and that was 5 years ago and it has over 590k miles, the issues is she just don’t have the money to do it🤷🏽♂️if she did I would fix it and it’ll outlast most New cars out here Today, she probably don’t have enough to buy a another used car tho
😮 how did that inner CV joint get damaged like that???
Man them cars need to go to a cash for clunkers sale… 😮WoW 🤦♂️
The dukes of Alex lol and in Georgia no less lol
Does Alex the car doctor and his wife show the customer's the video's of there cars being diagnosed and repaired if applicable? I'm assuming the answer is yes and definitely seems to be a good idea for all parties involved*
(Subject to change without notice)
Guess that’s why she wasn’t moving forward the way she was supposed to hole in the axle in all my years in school and working on people’s vehicles have never seen that
🔧✌️🔧
Ya know, sometimes when I get sick of my beautiful Chryslers I think about Honda and wonder why Honda don't make nice looking cars and suvs. Seriously I don't like the way they look, just me and my tastes.
23:03 C U NXT VIDEO ✌️
so in this case "the minimum" equates to maintenance sufficient to get the car to safe operation?
I know they tell the customers that start writing up basic ballpark with their looking at and ask them how much money they want to stick into this vehicle. Because what's goingna cost to fix this just to get it safe and all the problems they you go by another car?
This is years of neglect. I hope she saved all that money on missed maintenance and invested it in Bitcoin. LoL
So what all did you replace for her? My guess is the axle would have to be first..
When you hear the words "money pit", send it to scrapyard and start over from scratch! Yikes 😬
Trade in the car
Wonder how bad the timing belt is
After seeing that axle if she doesn't want u to fix it I would warn her not to drive this anywhere
some cars are just not worth the liability that comes with them. this customer would be better off selling this car as a "mechanics special sold as is" with a list from alex so the potential buyer would know what theyre in for. that way the customer would make a little more money towards something else.
if the interior was nice, id buy this car for $1k....maybe. :)
1:07 We don't judge over here..... Just looks like hard work to me....
Black soot
How much is that scanner and does it program parts that need to be programmed and relearned? Looking for a new one but reasonable maybe I have a free my other ones messing up and I got to update it and it cost money
Bi directional scanner are the keywords
That axle is atrocious MY GOD!
What's the best harbor freight jump box? Lol
dang Alex, Shon is a slavedriver LOL, JUST DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD!!, I love it
0:12 #AlexTheCarDoctorHere #LEGGO
Probably the turbo is probably going out due to poor oil maintenance. Sure way to destroy a turbo is dirt and poor oil changes.. that alone would exceed the value of the car.
18:04 Hiiii.... Who is that.... So I could place a name on it
A money pit is any car but one made by Toyota, according to a one Scotty Kilmer 😂
How much?
Magnetic plug
Everything gone, even the oil
Yes people are keeping their cars longer till they literally fall apart and blow up to avoid a car payment
wow I don't knw how it was still moving with tht axleshaft busted and it will be very very expensive I would say get rid of it
3:05 S/O Ms Car Doctor
Don’t check Honda or Acura trans fluid level while running not the proper way to get an accurate reading, engine should be off
The repairs are probably going to cost more than the value of the car. I wouldn't even work on that car. That's a liability waiting to happen especially with that axle the way it is.
18:51 if it's a money pit.... LET IT GO
😂😂that's right ✅️ listen to your wife 💪🏿🔑💰💰get that bag 🎒 and help em🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
It’s funny most CZcamsrs “we fixed this million dollar car for $3” this lady needs a million dollars worth of work for a $3 car
And these folks are driving around next to your wife and kids on the highway! 220,000 miles and next stop the junkyard!
That entire car is the bare minimum.
how bout some uplifting video next time?
When I hear money pit, I think of just pouring money into something that ain't worth it
Time to upgrade, money and time wise not worth it.
Money pit is a endless bill
lol her tire dot 5104 an who ever installed it put it on the inside so nobody would know 😂😂
Money pit means its done get rid of it but she already know that she know the damage she done she F***** that car up.
Money pit = you dont even know how much money the customers need to get home safe.
