  • Honda Pilots and Acura MDXs suffer from random electrical issues, often related to water infiltration into the MICU. The issues included dead battery, door locks won't work, rear hatch will not lock/unlock, windshield wipers will not turn on, turn signals won't activate, and power windows will not go up or down. I show how I fixed these issues on our 2008 Acura MDX.

    Excellent video.
    I have the exact same car.
    Acura couldn’t even fix the problem.
    Cost over $400 bucks and 4 months later I found your video.
    Thx a lot brother!
    I was ready too get rid of it.

    My wife got this same vehicle and these are known for having couple issues being the most common DEAD battery all of the sudden .
    But once you starting to known these vehicles you know where to go each time , and some owners have shared their issues with solutions .
    Helping so many of us ,But my friend you have done ( I would call it ) an awesome pretty good investigation .
    Ours we have it for more than 10 years and let me tell you this particular issue ,is kind of new for me
    And 1000 thank yous for helping the MDX community .

    So glad I found this video and another similar. My problems aren't like this, but the whole electrical system will randomly cut out, volts drop to 0, and a dash light will say "check electrical system." Whats wild is it always happens when it gets wet, then slowly gets better. So dang strange. This has to be it.

    Jared, it has been a year and a half since you made this video. Can you give us an update? Has there been any further issues with leaks into the car? I have a 2012 MDX that is having this issue currently and I am using your videos to correct. Thank you so much for making these!!

    I have a 2009 Honda Pilot that just had similar problems yesterday. I am going to scope this out. Thanks for the tips.

    Just had that happen to me last weekend, going through car-wash. Thanks, very helpful.

      I’m glad you found the video. I question whether I should film this and make a video but I was guessing there had to be others out there with the same issue.

    My 08 pilot sat for 6 .o ths while I rebuilt the top end. Once i got it back on the road, it had the VTM4 , ABS, traction control and TPMS indicatiors on . About a month or so later, P0705, then abput a week later P0717. I pulled the entire ECU harness looking for the P0705 and 0717 codes, thinking i had a bad grpund somewhere. Then looking at the service manual, Irralized that the VTM4 controller is in the REAR QUARTER PANEL, and it doesnt ground via the engine harness, but rather a sub harnes that grounds in the drivers foot well. I thought that maybe moisture is making its way in via a pin hole above the windshield.
    Did you know you can remove the entire engine harness in situ? NOT FUN. I did find about 1.8 ohms on a chassis ground connection. That connection (the one on the thermostat) houses 4 grounds. 2 body, and 2 are actually signal gounds. They run the lenght of the cable back to the ECU, meaning that there would be noise in the data signal, as the ground path is resistive.
    I think i have 2 distinct issues, but that shit ground isnt helping things. The terminal has clear green death visible on the crimp.
    Thanks for the A+vid. Im off to pull the front and rear fuse panels on the driver side to see what i see. Funny thing is Imentioned that this qas a possibility yestersay to my wife and she thought it was some big conspirqcy lol. "Grasping at straws eh"...

    Thanks for sharing this information. Does this issue happen in 2020 MDX as well? Has anyone experienced this?

    Did you end up doing the passenger side rails too? I thought you mentioned the speaker cover was wet on that side. Nice video.

    • @JaredsShop
      @JaredsShop  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! Yes, I did both sides even though I didn’t show it. You are correct, the other side had the speaker, which I found was wet. Even had I not found the wet speaker I still would have sealed both sides. Even if it hadn’t been leaking I’m sure it only would’ve been a matter of time.

    My son is at college with his 2009 MDX. For the last month his windows, fob, and hatch aren’t working. Last night he was driving it in the rain and his dash lights went crazy - abs, was shifting hard with rpm’s revving, etc..this morning it wouldn’t start. Could this issue be causing the more exacerbated issues he experienced last night?

    My car eletrical system acts up when it rains but I have an Acura RDX 2010. The headlights & fog lights flicker, backup camera shows constantly on navigation without being in reverse, car alarm goes off randomly, car wont unlock or lock with keyfob. Will this same process help with my vehicle?

    • @JaredsShop
      @JaredsShop  Před 3 měsíci

      The first thing I would check is to see if your rear fuse panel is wet after a rainstorm or a trip through the car wash. Then go from there. If it’s wet, I would do the same thing.

    Is this an issue for the 2012 Acura MDX technology package utility sport model.

      If your top rail looks like this one, then I’d say yes.

  • @scottwooster4102
    @scottwooster4102 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Did this solve the problem? My wife has the same vehicle, same issue. It seemed to me to be coming from the hatch shock supports. Also were you able to reuse the fuse box?

    • @JaredsShop
      @JaredsShop  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes it has 100% solved the issue and we did NOT replace the fuse box. I just dried it out.

    My 2008 Honda pilot...when I have my head lights on if I turn my right turn signal on my brights will come on. Not my left turn signal. You think that's probably what's happening here?

    • @JaredsShop
      @JaredsShop  Před 4 měsíci

      It’s definitely worth checking back there and seeing if it is wet. Obviously, try to do this after a good rain. Otherwise, it could be the turn signal lever.
