  • Turn On to T-Bag. (That is actually the title of the episode.) Holly's in possession of all of the crystals, but Tallulah also has everything she needs to start broadcasting her evil ways into all the homes around the world. It's a race against time, and just whose side are T-Shirt and Professor Sparkes on anyway? This series finale was originally broadcast on Tuesday, 8th March, 1988.
Without spoiling anything, it's a very good ending to the storyline. As sometimes happened in other series, T-Bag essentially wins, but is brought down one way or another by her own carelessness or something (being deliberately vague). And for the first time, the traditional return to the Curiosity Shop when all's done and dusted is T-Shirt's rather than the girl on the quest's, tying in with the first episode and establishing him as the central character. That changed back, though, for Revenge of the T. Set. Actually, speaking of tying in with the first episode, the failure of T-Bag's electronics also cleverly mirrors that of when we first started. Likewise, Ken Jones fills the guest role in this one as well as the first. I could be wrong, but I believe that the first and last episodes were shot consecutively rather than nine weeks apart.
So anyway, having revisited this series, what do we think of Diana Barrand as Holly? Personally, I think she was brilliant, and followed in the footsteps of Jennie Stallwood very well without trying to be a 'Debbie Mk II'. Her acting never feels out of place despite being the new kid on the block, and although we were treated to Kellie Bright a year later, it's a pity that this ended up as Diana's one and only series. I've said previously that there looks like slightly too wide an age gap between her and John Hasler, but I'm certainly not holding that against them - this is a genuinely classic series in my book, and the young talent certainly contributed to that greatly.
As you've read this far, time for some exclusive Gilbert news: as noted previously, she (yes, *she*) was actually writer Lee Pressman's family pet, and named Anarchy. But what many people don't know is that Anarchy, being a little on the large side, couldn't actually perform the going-in-the-professor's-pocket scene. And so a smaller replacement was drafted in at short notice: none other than one of Anarchy's own litter, a pup (not "guinea piglet", which was my first guess) with the same markings and everything. How many other shows can boast a guinea pig with a stunt double?
Don't miss, not only the Children's ITV continuity from Network Control, but also the full set of ads that I've left on the beginning because they brought back a few memories. You can't say you don't get good value round here! (P.S. The answer is ten and four. But who's that boy in the ad? He looks familiar...)
Many thanks to Grant for providing this recording.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I used to have guinea pigs as a child, and one of them used to eat carrots by chewing off the outside of the carrot and spitting it out and just eating the middle part (the sweeter part!). He was spoilt, haha.

You're very welcome indeed - I'm glad you're enjoying the vids! Your comments remind me of a dog I used to have way back: no matter how well you mixed up his food, he somehow always managed to eat around the bits he didn't like and went straight for the tastier bits. He'd walk off, leaving a bowl with only the healthy bits left. (And don't get me started on trying to get him to take medication...!)

Awww, our pets always take the piss when they know we care for them so much. And trying to get medicine tablets down a cat's neck is either easy when tucked in their food, or have to pin them down and throw it down their necks! Silly little babies!

Episode 9 of Turn On To T-Bag has disappeared. Do you know what happened to that episode? 😃

I'm not too bad, thanks - I hope you're doing well, too! It turns out CZcams removed that episode for "Inappropriate content", but didn't elaborate any further. It's left quite a few of us baffled. Give it a few weeks and I'll see what I can do.

I’m sorry that CZcams removed it for “inappropriate content” and they didn’t elaborate any further. Yes that is baffling to quite a few of us. 😲
Anything you can do will be great. Thanks in advance. Daryl. 😊👍🏻

Did anyone else try to do the maths in the Corn Flakes ad? In case you anyone's wondering they are 10 and 4 now (2.5 x 4=10) and were 7 and 1 three years ago (7 x 1 = 7).

Yes, it's a very good one, isn't it? It's a pity we never saw Holly again, but I like the part she and T-Shirt played in Tallulah's downfall. Great stuff.
