    The middle-sized backpack in the Nomatic-backpack-trio... the Nomatic Travel Pack is an amazing bag for the right person!
    A 20-liter backpack that can expand to 30 liters, the Nomatic Travel Pack is a perfect everyday carry backpack that can also double as a small travel backpack (think 3-7 day trips - depending on how light you pack).
    While we do have some serious qualms with the back panel, overall this feature-heavy backpack is perfect for anyone who has a ton of laptop gear, and wants a cool-looking backpack to carry it all!

    Love the review -- 39 mins! Wow ... that's thorough. I am definitely the IT Pro category (IT sales, 57yo) and pre-pandemic, this backpack ("travel pack") was my daily carry. It has accompanied me on all my travel as well (Delta Platinum: I travel a lot). Ironic thing is that so many of my co-workers saw it and I think 6+ more people in my office bought one. The tarpaulin fabric does scratch but that just gives it character so I don't mind and, after three years, it really doesn't show that much wear. I use the pseudo-hidden rear pocket to put an AirTag (or Tile) in for tracking -- nothing else because of the awkward access. I've never used to 30L expansion but I want it there -- just in case. I carry two laptops (15") and an iPad in the rear tech compartment -- works great but does make it heavy. I do wish there was convenient storage for all my various 5v accessory charging cords though -- I just toss them in the front zippered section. One feature which was missed in the review which was VERY important to me (would've have bought it without) is that the zippers LOCK TOGETHER. This means I can lock the outside zipper of the front pocket and/or the internal RFID pocket so if the bag is in the overhead bin on a long international trip and I'm sleeping, no one can get into my bag and steal my passport (secured in the RFID pocket)! Well, not without a knife anyway and since I'm on an airplane -- not much of a risk. I do occasionally tuck the carrying straps in behind the back padding but not often -- and yes, looks like hell but it does keep them out of the way when I'm carrying it by the side handle ala duffle style. Thanks again for the excellent review -- I LIKED and SUBSCRIBED. Keep up the awesome work.

      Hey, thanks for this comment. I have a similar use case as yourself. I am control engineer who travels a lot to different job sites all over NA. Usually fly, every week or so, with 2 laptops and a tablet and lots of small accessories and/or HW. I was also considering the Alpha one niner pathfinder since its very similar to this bag but a little more rugged. Bering rugged helps since I would use this pack as a day pack when visiting industrial facilities. So i'm torn between the two.

    Very good video! The way the main compartment can unzip from the top or the bottom, the key chain leash is super accessible. Just zip up from the bottom, grab your keys and done. And there is also the same little sewn in nylon attachment in the top inside mesh pocket on that same side in case you wanted to move from the bottom to the top, but in use, I’ve found the bottom to be perfect for me.

    I love this bag. You can move the key ring to the upper side pocket on the same side as it also has a holding strap and the slant of the pocket makes it a bit easier to access the keys. Plus you don’t have to open the entire bag to get to the keys.

    • @mrcvry
      @mrcvry Před 4 lety +1

      You obviously have not watched the makers video. You do not open the entire bag. You just open a hand wide part from the lower end and grab the keys from the bottom. There are four zipper pulls for a reason.
      That way you also do not need to take the backpack off. Just one strap (if you use two anyway) and swing the backpack to the side. There you can easily grab the keys or the bottle on the go.
      The problem is that I would like to have them on the other side and there are no loops. I prefer to carry my bags on the left shoulder with one strap.

    The exterior fabric issues you mention was the final blow for me. I went with Briggs and Riley Medium Cargo for durability - trains, planes, etc. It is perfect sized (27L) for under seat Arline travel. This and the fact the B&R has a famous life time warranty no hassle process. The Nomatic has many more storage features.

  • @lifeandluggage
    @lifeandluggage Před 2 lety +2

    About the dangle: you can use hairpins and/or hairclips to solve some of the dangling. Just roll back the excess trap and then pin it as close to the back as you can. Just be sure to choose a large enough hairpin. Some 'bag clips" (the kinds used to close bread and coffee bags) also work.

    Hey mate, first of all, wanted to say that you are doing a fantastic job with these reviews and they are quite detailed for consumers to make right decision especially if you are buying an expensive bag. I have been on lookout for a "perfect" backpack and unfortunately nothing is meeting my expectations. Materials and Zippers wise , Black Ember bags comes closest as I need a bag which looks elegant and if I am paying more it should look exclusive and expensive too ( to show off). Features wise , I need a Travel Bag with pockets to keep Passports, Coins, Pens, Cables, Water Bottle, Laptop and IPAD (separate compartments with cushion)
    There is one thing which NO BACKPACK provides and that's a MUST HAVE for me !!!! A separate inbuilt Sunglass Cover ( not pocket but a sunglass case) to protect my expensive sunglasses. Around 2014, I had purchased a BMW Triathlon Bag which had such feature where an inbuilt box pocket was provided to keep sunglasses !!!
    Size wise I am looking at something similar to Black Ember Citadel 25 bag with similar material and zippers but I need all the above feature I mentioned above.
    Do you think there is any bag which can fit my need . Thank you so much if you chose to reply and recommend.

    I personally did not like the bag but I did purchase v1.0, before the new changes in 2.0. The bag never stood up for me, it always fell forward when left on the floor or table. The capacity felt really tight for me, even with the expansion. I ended up returning it and was left disappointed. The new 2.0 changes do look good though, hopefully they fixed the problems I experienced. Great detailed review.

    Hi Aaron, great review, love your channel and how you thoroughly deliver each review. I did own one Nomatic Travel backpack a few years ago, which I ordered through Taobao (I live in Macao). Loved the bag but always found it a bit heavy, even when empty, funny nobody mentions that. I had a issue with the main zippers, they come off in one of the turns and couldn't find anyone to fixed it, so the bag had to go maybe 2 years ago. I absolutely love my travel pack. Being able to quickly remove the laptops and pads quickly in security is great. The materials are top notch and I like the amount of room. Several trips so far and very few complaints. The strap tucking for me actually works good once I got used to stowing them. I always use this once on the plane so the straps aren’t hanging out. The con though is when the straps are tucked and you use the pass through to put it on a luggage handle, it pushes the straps back out. It needs a thin layer to separate them. The other positive is the NOMATIC toiletries bag fits perfect in the bottom of the main compartment. It’s not a cheap bag but you get what you pay for.

    I have v1.0 of this bag. I agree it's very good for biz/tech travel. I don't have any issue with the tarpaulin material. I agree the "hide the straps" feature is poorly done and I never use it. I prefer to use paper for travel docs - never have to worry about running out of battery - for that reason, I wish the bag had an external pocket that could be used used for paper documents. It's annoying having to open the laptop section to grab a document. I'm OK with the grab handles, better to have more of them.

    Will this still work to be considered a "personal item" on a flight? Checking the specs against the United website, it seems the pack is 1.5 to 2 inches too big... but in practice does this actually prevent it from fitting under the seat or them letting you bring it alongside a full-size carry-on bag? Does the 20L to 30L expansion impact how it would fit or be classified?

    Hi, good review! I didn't look at how long ago you posted this but when these first came out (yes I have the field of intermingled triangles on the front of mine), I bought 2 Backpacks, 2 travel packs and 2 travel bags for my wife and I as well, a laptop messenger bag for myself. We've been using them for a couple of years now.
    All I want to say is that when you were explaining the zipper system for the middle section, you missed a hugely important feature. I don't know if you just forgot to point it out or if it went over your head and you don't realize why there are four zippers installed on the zipper track which opens the middle section. I'm not talking about the expandable section or the section behind the mesh but the section directly behind the front section. Have you noticed that there are 4 zipper pulls on that particular zipper track?
    There is another part of this bag you also may or may not know about which was not included in your review.

    Used to own this backpack.. My favorite like about this pack are the expansion features from 20l to 30 with interior dividers are great for carrying extra stuff, easy to pack.. the front tech opening with organization also function well 👍🏻. However the back conceal secret pocket is too small and the way it is position makes very difficult and annoying to access items.. also becuz if this con I don't know what to stash in there. My expectation of back secret pocket for travelling at least must room for my 7 inch phone, passport wallets and earbuds.. I feel safe when these sensitive items are right behind against closest to my back and easy to access. The top quick access pocket world be better if they can be a bit more generous with the space inside.. can't put my phone in.
    Give this bag to my friend who's a sale personal who needs a travel bag urgently.

    I actually like all those compartments. The more I see of this bag the more I like it.
    Thanks for the v thorough review, could've been a bit tighter tho. Don't think it's necessary to break up into chapters - just makes it longer and meh

      They'll fit but you will SEVERELY limit the amount of space in the pack - I would recommend looking at the Aer Travel Pack 2 Small

      @@Nomads.Nation I have the same bag and you hit on all the points which is a lot. I can def watch your vids and know that I don’t have to see it in person to purchase if need be. Keep it up!!! Very few of any are doing what you’re doing!

    I bought this bag and hated the way the materials felt, and there were way too many organizational pockets. Kind of ridiculous in my opinion. I returned it and they charged to return the bag. Horrible business practice.
    I went with a peak design 30 l travel bag and in my opinion way better in every way.... The fit, finish, and overall quality of the PD bag wins out all day.

      Yikes, that is not good that they charged to return the bag. Glad you are enjoying the PD 30 - it's def more minimalist and made with better materials

    Very good review -- great content, very thorough, and very practical observations on the product's use.
    However, you can do away with the profanity. You can't pull it off the way Chase Reeves does.
    Hope you can review the Knack bag. I would think that's a direct competitor to this Nomatic.
