- An apple Betty is like an apple crisp, but instead of a crumbly butter/sugar/flour topping, it has slightly sweetened bread crumbs both above and below the apples.

LOVE these types of desserts! Baked fruit is so underrated
Elle looks even more fabulous than ever
“Friends first!”-how cute!
this looks like it tastes incredible and seems pretty easy
Nice. Don't use water on the Granny Smith apples. Use brandy.
Yum! Brandy would be fantastic!
Or Bourbon!!😮
Great idea, whisky too!
some folks don't do alcohol, ya bozo
Ellie looks fabulous, you go girl❤
I don't know, she went from admittedly big girl (but that doesn't necessarily mean she was in poor health, to healthy looking girl, but now she's borderline skeletor, especially in the thumbnail. 😬 Having dealt with weight issues my whole life I know all the toxicity and contradictory medical advice. I just hope lovely Elle isn't harming herself somehow
@@SharpAssKnittingNeedles Elle was diagnosed with ovarian cancer several years ago. After a few years in remission (during which she also underwent weight loss surgery), the cancer returned in 2020 and she has been living/thriving with cancer ever since. Any "harm" you think you perceive is possibly from her participation in immunotherapy clinical trials to keep her cancer in check.
@@sandrah7512 Thanks for the heads up! I didn't know that 😨 comment deleted
Look fantastic Eli
Elle you look fantastic!
Simple but to the point!
Woah, Blackberry Betty! (bam-a-lam)
I love Elle’s new look!
It is beautiful, Elle!
I had to click on the name of Elle to make sure she was the same woman I have enjoyed on ATk....she was beautiful then but my oh my how she has changed. I love her cooking!
Elle's great, but this recipe was developed by her colleague Andrea Geary.
Did you change?
She has ovarian cancer.
Love this recipe!
Facile et bon!
Nice!!. Thank you
Definitely, I'm making this! ❤
That Black berry Betty looks tasty ❤
Nice and with out egg dessert is awesome. I am perhaps makes its Tomorrow.
CAN’T WAIT TO TRY THIS 👍🏾😇
I can do this. Soon!
Elle is so great! Especially because she’s from Detroit where I live!!! ❤❤❤
This I will make!
Yummy!
Elle, you look fantastic! Best wishes.
I want to apply for the tasting department.
Is that Elle “Left Eye” Simone?
Rocking the look and showing us how to cook!
Omg i read this and thought you meant lisa lopes at first hahah
@@milkispolitics well, I was making a reference.
Yum 😋😋♥️
Super easy to make vegan / loctose free too !
Elle is stunning 🥀
Can just use oats and no processing required ??
Sure, but that wouldn’t be a Betty.
Would Brioche bread crumbs work?
They might burn
From the recipe: "You can substitute another soft, enriched bread such as challah or brioche for the sandwich bread; be sure to use 10 ounces." (equivalent to the seven slices of white bread used in the video)
Bambalam!
This looks soooo good. Still surprised though no acidity, lemon maybe .. could be cloying or one note without ? I don't know .. maybe the blackberry helped with that ☺️
Looks good but I think I would reduce the amount of sugar The golden delicious apples would not need it. I would also include some porridge oats which would add a nice texture and a healthier finish.
This looks wonderful. Though I have to say, your idea of a "spit second" differs considerably from mine.
😁
As a lifelong foodie and fatty, Elle’s transformation is miraculous. I envy her results.
Elle does look fantastic. However, I don’t think we can envy her too much; while she is doing great and thriving, she is also challenged with ovarian cancer. I love the woman, and, as a breast cancer survivor myself, I am blown away by how well she’s doing! 💞
This technique and execution feels very Southern U.S., and I'm specifically thinking of my own Cajun upbringing. Taking a technically complex dish and recreating the flavor experience and focusing less on the finished aesthetics. Beignets are the prime example that stick out in my mind.
I made this and it turned out soggy and tasted like the white bread it was made with.
~~~ I'm very surprised that zero cinnamon was added.
Hhhhmmmm. 🤔
🙄From the recipe: "We like the flavor of nutmeg here, but substitute ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon if you prefer it."
Why remove the apple skin? Is that necessary?
The apples likely wouldn't break down as uniformly.
@@sandrah7512 Thanks
I am not cutting bread in neat 1 inch pieces if I am going to be throwing it in the food processor 😂
Why is it called a "Betty"?
No cinnamon?
🤨 right.
From the recipe: "We like the flavor of nutmeg here, but substitute ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon if you prefer it."
FROTST
White bread?? Ewww
So skinny ;)
Did everything as instructed. It tasted awful and looked worse.
"unfussiest" would not need a processor lol
😂 read this comment at 2:00
🙄
Or two types of apples
Then they couldn't sell their Cuisinart food processor....
unfussiest doesn't mean most minimal steps/tools or easiest, it just means you don't have to be overly precise or careful. a recipe that always comes out right if you will.
Doesn't look easy to me. Too much prep
Why does the Woman doing the cooking need a person standing next to her? Seems like a one person job.
You had to really reach for that criticism. I didn’t see anything wrong with anything at all anywhere I just loved it.
Apples and blackberries are too expensive to be using pounds of them for a dessert
So? Don’t make this recipe then.
fruit will keep from spoiling longer if you make them into desserts and freeze it in portions 😤
Waaaaah. Cry about it, baby.
Maybe you can substitute half the amount of apples with chayote instead. (When chayotes are peeled, with their seed cut out and diced, they will look very much like apples and will take on the flavour of whatever they're cooked with). I would suggest you get the Golden Delicious apples as the texture of a cooked chayote is closer to that of a cooked Granny Smith apple. (You can adjust the tartness with a bit of lemon juice). As for the blackberries, perhaps a few dollops of a nice 100% fruit jam can be used as a substitute, but you might have to adjust the amount of added sugar though. Hope this helps. Have fun cooking and eating. 😁👍
This recipe calls for, what...5-6 apples?
.
All kinds of fussy
