    I bought a 1996 Z28 SS #2304 back in 2016 for $2900.
I love my car, I put it into car shows, it's far from perfect but I still win awards.
I installed long tube headers, deleted the cats, obviously I took it into a mechanic and had him shut off the O2 sensors, had him program the fans to kick on earlier, adjust the transmission shift points and put on a flowmaster muffler on.
My Camaro has been pretty reliable.

I’ve always assumed that cars need to be in super great shape to win at car shows. That’s an awesome price for that car, but everything has gotten so much more expensive now.? What motor is in that Z? My daughter got a 99 Firehawk this year with the 5.7, American Racing long tube headers, Flowmaster exhaust. I love driving that car.

It's the stock 5.7, I've just installed some bolt on's.
It all Depends on the car show. If you enter car shows, some of them have different categories.....for example, The best of each decade, the best rat rod and so on.
Presentation plays a role as well.
1972 had been the last year of the SS Camaro, it had not returned to The Camaro until 1996 as The Z28 SS.
So, basically, a 24 year hiatus.
Each SS has a plaque on the center console with a production #.
      Mine is #2304.
      There were roughly 2400 produced.
I uploaded my car, so you can look at it.

That's a beautiful car man. I had a 96 RS. It was a red convertible with jet black interior (not that graphite color). Some lady turned through traffic and I hit her on the broad side. Her insurance paid and I got it fixed but 3 days after that some kid literally set my car on fire. I still have those pictures. Crazy 😢. I ended up buying a '95 Z28 convertible and just just setting it up for speed and drivability.

Thanks, dude, the kid setting it on fire is crazy. It sounds like you like to have your hair in the wind. I’ve always assumed that convertibles weren’t very weather friendly. Heat, cold, rain, how do they do? Last time I drove a convertible was over 25 years ago. I rented a convertible mustang when I got married. I didn’t want anyone messing with my 87 Camaro, fresh paint.

Early in the 4th gen Camaros certain models if not all, I don’t remember, had black mirrors with black tops.

Thanks, I’m missing driving it right now. The evaporator core needs replacing and the driver window stopped working. MS heat is to much for that.

Check out Classic Industries and Hawk's third gen for f-body parts. Nice Camaro!

2002 was the last year. That’s the one I have. Just had the plugs and wires done. Also suspension and the intake gasket. So far it’s been a pretty good car. Had it for 18 years now. 106,000 miles 3.8 engine.

That’s low mileage. This is my 2nd white 97 RS. The 1st one I got in 99, about 7 years later some idiot t boned it in an intersection. I picked this one up 3 months later. It’s been good car, running great right now.

@@cartalk5585 only the last couple of years have I started making it my daily driver. Or about 4 days a week. Trying to save miles on my 03 Silverado that has 245,000 on it. The Camaro gets better mileage too. Mainly highway.

Very nice car. Its a dream for me
I live in Europe and in my country this camaro itsn't cheap. Accebility but non cheap.
    3.8 V6 its a good engine?

    • @cartalk5585
      @cartalk5585  Před 2 měsíci +1

The 3.8 has been a good dependable motor. It’s got some good pep to it. It’s so much better than that weak 3.1 in my 91 Camaro. At almost 200,000 I’ve had some issues here and there. One annoying thing is I feel like I loose a plug wire to soon every once in a while. I use AC Delco wires and I usually change to whole set when it happens. As I type this I find myself thinking, I wonder if it’s the same plug wire every time?

Maybe one day, but she runs great right now. It’s a pretty good car. It does need evap core, gonna go ahead and do heater core. Neither of the windows work right now.

@@MassiveBig I’ve never even thought about it. It’s been maintained really good. It’s not perfect. I spent a chunk on it in 2023 with replacing a lot of the suspension, replaced steering wheel, new ignition cylinder (key would come out while cranked, hatch shocks, plugs, wires, there had to have been more for what it cost, lol. Brake lines, I kept having an issue with brakes, and new lines finally solved it.
