Neverwinter: How to beat Tower of the Mad Mage!

- Tower of the Mad Mage is the next big thing with tons upon tons of mechanics. In this video I will be explaining most of the mechanics and also how to prepare properly for TOTMM!

** First a disclaimer: most of the video is constructed during early access. On there the trial was a lot easier and I havent beaten the buffed version on mimic.
Alright I got some more information / corrections:
- The Firebomb Explosion mechanic, where a ball of fire grows - someone has to walk in to pop it before it explodes.
- Duumvirate which I mentioned in the video, the mechanic you see is actually called Hyporthermia. Duumvirate is a tank check where the tank is locked into place.
If I get any more info I will write it down here. I know some guys are busy with a written guide

Great vid Rainer. I have it linked in my discord and wrote out all the mechanics the best I could that you described in the vid. Someone told me that the Inexplicable Key is used for one of the end chests, I am stacking those keys now.

my god looks hard as good job finishing it
We finished it on owlbear a couple of times. Since then it has been massively buffed on preview. The mechanics are combined in tricky ways that make it more difficult as well as the damage values have been buffed. I don't think anyone finished it on mimic yet!

1.What would be the best combination of artifacts between the 10 ppls in group?
2. And what about mounts power?
3. Is it ok for everyone to cast the artifacts and use mount power on this Boss (eg. Buff and Debuff ones) everybody at once or do you split usage of it.

Man...after watching this a dozen times it really looks easy. Some of the mechanics the game has already trained us for. The fireball is someone walk into it do thats easy. Looks like dodge red (as always) and do dmg. This will be defeated before the weekend is up. Thank u. Fast n easy guide
It's correct that a lot of mechanics were recycled from old dungeons - but do not underestimate this trial :-) Looking at a well oiled team makes it look easy - but you have to know exactly how to react to everything instantly.

Hey Rainer what's the party make for it means how many dps tank and heels we need + how many tanks heals and dps would be in a party of 5 for the trial
On early access we did it with 1 amazing tank and I think 1 or 2 healers. You need sufficient DPS to overcome the 2 dps checks (while the dps characters need to be tanky enough to survive the damage bursts!)
The composition most likely will still be the same since you still need a lot of dps.

No ... loot wasn't set yet but a nice list of rings drop only from Tomm chests and the new Lionheart weapons
What Dontez said (who is in the video by the way :-P). On Owlbear the chest contents weren't finished yet.

Wow. I stopped counting by the end of Phase 1! There must be 25-30 different things to keep track of.
It's extremely complicated indeed, and the trial is buffed even more recently ... The more complicated thing is that these mechanics are mixed now in very interesting ways.

Yes, that is the basic way of getting combat advantage :-)

@@RainerNW We've been failing a lot. Powerful group but no win so far. People are saying only 1% are making it to the end, and a patch might be needed. (tanks getting hit with 1 million+ damage...)
Tanks need to share aggro to lose debuff stacks... its not broken - you just need to know what to do. 2 teams who know are consistently beating it

Haha don't just jump in... and also don't just pump up item level - this trial is insanely hard and you need to be fully built for it :-) Good luck!

In other words a great deal of investment is the only choice left, sadly not all people can manage that...

Ps: why to E Assault Rings? I thought they didn’t stack? And why Trobriands Ring as main artifact?
The melee bonus stacks 2 times. So if you have 2 rings - you cannot use the kiuno anymore for example (it's the same quip bonus).
Trobriand's Ring as main is actually not a good choice. You need group buff artifacts (TRex/Wyvern Knives/Lantern) or damage debuff artifacts (e.g. Forgehammer).
@@RainerNW you dont need bear armor. There is one armor with 10% power. I think its the best for dps. In mod 16 that bonus does not work.

What do you think? A bunch of shit as usual and every single piece of new gear is locked behind this trial.
Cap means anything over that is diminishing returns correct? Not fully wasted.
There are no diminishing returns "caps"... Cap here means higher has absolutely 0 effect.

Bundle up seems to be the mechanic.
i saw a your boons for a breif moment, why is it that u didnt put points into the crit or amor pen boons>
Probably maxed out with gear.
Because they're not a good investment for your boons. You want the Power, HP, Companion Influence and Movement Speed boons for ranks 1-3.
The flat stat boons are not worth the boon points, and I don't really need them
well rip. my offense stats are definetly good enough sadly im at like 250k hp and 65k defense. rip.... and i really dont want to lose dps hmmmm what to do what to do...
If you dont want to lose dps you will need more hp and 80k defense. Res sickness is a very big damage debuff and it cripples hp also... hard downwards spiral once you go down once or twice

Can already tell that 75% of the console community isn't going to get through this. 😞
The percentage is most likely going to be even higher. On PC, mimic, nobody has finished it yet. Even the top of the elite. We finished it on owlbear but the trial wasn't buffed back then. Mechanics wise it was the same though

I'm a 27k paly w 645k hps...145k power....90k def...80k deflect...80k deflect....80k AP and CS..... Do I need to adjust my stats? If so what should I change to ToMM
@@christopherfears2312 crit avoidance should be 85k (not mentioned) and hp >700k hp would be best

How do you get the currency for the new weapons?
By beating ToMM..... 40 times... but it also drops in there - big change you will get them before you need to buy them.

Edit: also do you use vorpal or poison?
You can only get the lionheart weapons by doing ToMM I'm afraid... I still use Vorpal - I also have a Bilethorn but for me Vorpal seems to work better.
@@RainerNW Ok cool, also just out of curiosity - bilethorn seems to have a bug were the Dot won't crit, does that work well with the owlbear cub passive?

Why must it be watcher, why not burnished ?
Watcher is a permanent buff in the trial that buffs 4 different stats. Burnished only buffs power and defense and depends on healer
I thought on the stream they said no one was able to beat it?
Yesterday evening the first team beat it (not me). Its really really really difficult :-)

For tomm/zariel you're better off making a group first. You cant just pug it

There's even more mechanics right now - positive thing is that they are grouped by element. Negative side is that you can get multiple at the same time... ;-) TOMM is intended to be hard

It does help indeed! Barkshield works very good in the trial

I actually think the trial is amazing. Neverwinter needs challenging content - it's the biggest gap in the game to date!

Viele Leute :-) Ich habe selber die Idee es sind mehr jetzt in Neverwinter aber schwer zu sagen.
This is the WORST mod neverwinter ever had. It has no content for vast majority of player base and will last till feb-march 2020. Normal players get ready to do ME's*(same map just different monsters) for the foreseeable future
Everyone is allowed their own opinion of course but I disagree. I think mod17 is amazing and brings a ton of great new things. The trial is the best queued content ever in Neverwinter. Visually the new hub looks great. The appearance system is great. We get some nice new announcement settings and we have a new race (maybe even the worst of it all)...
Agreed. The "end game" players now have something a lot more challenging right out of the gate that they won't be able to steamroll. As for the "vast majority" they'll have something to work towards.
It's like the x.b(half mod) days. It looks to have alot of great things added as well so either you haven't been playing long or just jumping to conclusions.
Its really nice to play the game again. follow mechanics and all, like taking Goristo into the portals on demo for example. I'm not part of the crowd complaining that I can't face roll my guardian fighter anymore, I love the trill of finally beating a boss who we've put in a bunch or tries on, then eventually getting really good at it? (my fav boss kill ingame was the 2nd in spellplgue
