  • This time we are travelling back in time and making the traditional Spanish almond cake TARTA DE SANTIAGO which dates back to the medieval times. Although you can find it in any city in Spain nowadays, it is typically from Galicia, or more specifically, Santiago de Compostela. It is very easy to make at home, with only a few ingredients, and has a very unique and rich taste. Once you try it, you'll ask for more! If you'd like to learn this recipe from a Spaniard, keep on watching!
⚜️ There are different stories as for the cake's origin and if you are interested in you can find them (very soon) in more detail on our blog!
    Ingredients:
    - 300 gr peeled & raw almond

    - 250 gr granulated sugar
    - half a lemon

There wasn't any sugar in the medieval times.

Hi! As far as I know, it was first mentioned as "torta real" back in 1557. Understandibly, the ingredients could have changed somewhat since then. Thank you for dropping a comment!

Yes, in the real/royal court they probably used honey instead of sugar.
