- Should you be doing Bent Over Rows or Pendlay Rows?
Personally, I prefer the Pendlay Rows for strength and Bent Over Rows for hypertrophy.
Both have their place in training, but if you have a specific training goal, one of these might be better suited for you than the other. - Sport
Know know know your rows
Hehe
pendlay down the street 💀
Gently down the weight...❤
Heavily heavily heavily heavily
Gentley to the bar..

Thanks for explaining without a 20 minute video
Absolutely
Needed a quick how to and this was perfect! Thank you
I'm switching to Pend. Rows next week. Bent over rows are too rough on my lower back
Let us know how it goes!
Don't bend over, the name is misleading, just think about pushing your hips all the way back like a hinge instead of extending your back over the hips
@@FunctionalBodybuildingwhich can you go heavier and how much?
@@HeyIntegritylmao , maybe that's why your low back is fucked upz
You should be proud of yourself. Unless you are a girl - pendlay rows is the way to go.
It’s the pendlay rows for me.
Clear and concise, love it
fantastic, concise and accurate. nice vid.
Glad you liked it!
I’m still trying to get the form right without looking ridiculous. Great video 💯
You basically Wana just move you arms bend at the elbow up and back the least movement everywhere else is better stay sturdy and straight kinda like ur in a paused deadlift
thank you bro 🙏🏿 adding this to my strength and explosiveness workout
Amazing!
Is it okay to also go a bit explosively on the barbell row? I can't actually hold the barbell against my chest unless I lower the weight a lot. Otherwise, I have to use the inertia from my pull to make it briefly touch my chest. But I worry about whether I might be underworking whichever muscle closes that final inch (God knows I'm terrible at back anatomy lol)
We'd recommend lowering the weight. You want full range of motion always. Even with less weight, getting the full row all the way to your chest is what is going to give you the most well developed, well rounded muscle.
@@FunctionalBodybuilding thanks dude! I've heard a good drill to iron out difficult positions is to hold them for a second each rep, I suppose I'll try a weight I can hold still against my chest like that.
Deficit pendlay row also gives a big stretch.
I’ve never done Pendley Rows but I’ll give it a try,,, the video made me prefer Pendley until I reached the end of the video when Marcus says Pendley is for strength and Bentover Row is for hypertrophy!
Yes, Pendley rows are for men only. Real men prefer to be strong over looking strong.
P.S. But if your not doing pendley rows there is a rule, that you cannot use men restroom, only woman.

🔥
I tend to rest pause with bent over rows … till near failure count 10 secs then pendlay rows till failure …… biggest back pump
Serious question. So if the goal is to have time under tension wouldn’t the pendlay row be counter intuitive to breaking down/tearing the muscle fiber? Since once you put the weight down even for a second the tension is gone.
Good question. The pendlay row will have less time under tension than the bent over row. It's meant to help you get more explosive off of the floor and work on heavy weight.
Fascinating 🤟🏾😲🤯😁🔥🔥🔥🔥
I do my rows like pend , I stand on extra weights to create the deficit
Can I super set them?
Pendlay rows are so good....
I like those sneakers, what are they?

Do them from the floor like pendlays, but control the eccentric to the point where you barely touch the floor between reps.
I got to 5 reps of 2 plates with 'normal' pendlays technique and barely felt them in my back, and generally disliked them. It was also hard to be really consistent with the form.
Started doing them as strict as possible, pausing at the top for all sets except the last one, and just one plate was enough weight to light up my entire back like nothing before.
I have also done the bodybuilding style and again, don't feel the, really dislike them.
But the way I do them now, no other exercise can compete for back building, not even pull-ups because they do fuck-all for the spinal erectors
Bent over rows are hard on core. So it’s better to build up that core strength using pendlay rows.
If the hinge position is a challenge, you can always sub in dumbbells as this will be a little less challenging on the hinge and core than a barbell.
Great explanation! 👍 Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I put my feet on cinder blocks for penalty rows. Constant tension and more stimulus on middle and upper back
if you have short hamstrings, pendlay rows can be hard.
I can't do pendlay rows without banging my knees. Cuz long humerus.
I do both rows using heavy weights. Sometimes underhand also. And he’s right pendlay rows build strength and explosiveness!
Awesome! Pulling in different ways builds bulletproof strength.
I’ve heard these described as the exact opposite
Funny Glen Pendlay's name has carried on with that row variation since the early 2000s. Hes been given more fame to that row variation than is needed. Its just a deadstop reset start at the bottom. His name doesn't need to be there. How about doing one arm Dumbell rows the same manner then attaching your name to it. Noones done that yet
Pendlay row mostly works the rhomboids whilst bent over row is for upper back and does little for thicknesd
Dont talk if you are noob, please.
Bent over rows helped my deadlift strength. I've never tried the pendlay row before. I'll have to give that a try
Awesome to hear that! Pendlay rows can help you get more explosive.
Hypervajy? What was the word you said last?
Hyperfergy???
Hypertrophy - increasing the size of your muscles.
Where is the Meadows Row? RIP
Which vetter for powerlifter?
Both can have a place, but a pendlay row would lend itself more to the strength needed for powerlifting.
Thanks dude❤
Rows for the bros
What about underhand grip?
Underhand grip will target a little bit more biceps than overhand.
@@FunctionalBodybuilding but will it also target lower lats more or is the difference not worth it?
@@Mikejames1080you ever try going for a closer grip with overhand Or just tuck it in
@@comradericefarmerhao2269 I don't actually do barbell rows. I do bent over dumbbells rows because I try to keep my exercises unilateral. I was just wondering about the underhand grip.
@@Mikejames1080 better for erectors
Dorian rows for ithe fellas like me who has not operated their inguinal hernias
Voila
Thumbs down for man-bun😂😂😂
D. Yates had the best lats and he did underhand.
Pendlay is loud, and cuase of this, banned from the gyms
What gyms are you going to?
Man bun and steroids lol
The major difference between pendlay and bb row is the place where you try to pull. With pendlay - chest, with bb row - stomach. Both your variation are bb row. It has nothing to do with angle. If we use your logic then Arnold did pendlay row and Yates did bb row. But they both did bb row and none of them ever performed pendlay row
wrong
