    I know Dumbledore's sister lost control of her powers, but I never thought about her being an Obscure.
    Now that I think about it, It's very possible that she is an Obscure due to the brief description of her in the "Deathly Hallows" book. I would like to see if she really was.
    Most of all, I would want to see the Duel between Grindelwald and Dumbledore.

      From the lore this movie set out, most obscurial arise from chronic abuse from early childhood. Ariana was a well cared for and loved normal young witch who was attacked by a group of muggle boys in her late childhood when they caught her performing magic. That left her broken and was the basis for her uncontrollable magical outbursts which might have been similar to an obscurus, but likely fundamentally different in nature.
      The only obscurial we have met so far was in full control of his mental faculties when not giving into his inner rage. Ariana on the other hand was permanently addled from what I would suspect was some rather serious brain trauma. I'd imagine that it was close enough though to leave a lasting impression on Grindelwald that would lead him to wanting to take advantage of an obscurial as a weapon he could wield once he learned of their existance and was reminded of the power shown in Ariana's outbursts.

    I think Grindelwald would have the elder wand, as he stole it when he was a teenager, and that blast at the very beginning of the movie that wiped out like 5 guys, looked pretty damn powerful.

      Not to mention that he's impersonating Graves, so he's most likley using Graves wand. The people who knew Graves would obviously wonder why he's carrying a new wand etc.

    Grindelwald had obviously already stolen the elder wand in this timeline, as this timeline follows the exact same one as the rest of the books and movies did. He just doesn't use it in FB (although he might in the very opening scene of the film), he obviously uses Graves's wand in the film, because y'know, impersonating an auror in a country that registers and licenses all wands and using a wand that is obviously not that auror's wand would be stupid af.

    I think Grindlewald isn't using the Elder Wand because it might give him away... and he doesn't need it, he is already super-powerful/talented. He is PROBABLY, almost certainly using the wand of the actual Graves... someone would eventually notice otherwise. He probably only resumed using the Elder wand for his "big-boy" moves, and to give him advantage in the duel with Dumbledore, whose abilities he had a healthy respect and wariness for.

      i´d like to see how it works for it´s original master. we saw it wasn´t too special with voldemort. but with Grindelwald it´s different he will have it´s full power at his disposal. but it is rather logical to use graves wand after all he has its loyalty too so he can use it without giving him away. the elder wand might be recognised by some and a new wand would definitely spark interest Grindelwald couldn´t have. i mean we all notice if minor but permanent details about others around us change. like if somebody has a new jacket. we spot that immediately. if it´s just a new jacket nobody will wander. but a new wand? replacing literally a wizards source of power? he´d need a very god cover up for that.

      I think Dumb was the greatest wizard of the century (and probably more than just a century), followed by Riddle and than Grindelwald and all 3 were, from wht we have read, leagues above any other wizards, even great ones like Moody, McGonaggall or Snape who are already well above the average

JK Rowling, the director and producers have confirmed the film will take place many years apart, and span nearly 20 years (1926-1945. So it's unclear how Newt, Tina, Queenie and Jacob will factor in.

    From the first mention of Grindlewald in a trailer, I knew it would be much more than a Newt film. The talk of three, then five films assured it. This will be the world wizarding war that the Potter books never delivered on, and it will culminate in the great Dumbledore v. Grindlewald duel... otherwise, why bother, right?? lol

    • @gibranlewis7300
      @gibranlewis7300 Před 7 lety

      ***** Not insulted at all, and I am also enjoying the conversation very much. I will say, I would hope Harry and Hermione would have had the moral decency and righteousness NOT to have engaged in adultery against Ron, especially considering the fact that Harry was also his close friend, so it would have been a hideous double betrayal. But, getting away from uncomfortable triangles. Re: the Albus v Gellert duel, it's worse than the movies not mentioning why they dueled.... the damn films don't even mention THAT they dueled!! There is ZERO mention, in all that Elder wand, deathly hallows talk of the fact that Dumbledore and Grindlewald fought one another in one of the most legendary, epic duels in the history of that mythos, and that the outcome of the fight largely decided the outcome of the war. It was a jaw-droppingly massive omission, and I suspect they will try to set it right with these films.

    • @gibranlewis7300
      @gibranlewis7300 Před 7 lety +2

      ***** I actually like the choice. Also, I'm not sure Grindlewald is entirely British. His great-aunt is, but that doesn't mean he is. He went to Durmstrang, not Hogwarts, so... international student calls for international star?? lol I just hope they choose an Albus Dumbledore who is on par with Depp in film credentials status. I'd really love to see Jude Law in the role, I think he fits it well. Also, from his interactions with Credance and the fact that he still seems to carry something for Albus, I suspect that whatever relationship is established with Grindlewald and Riddle may be an interesting one, with the former personally drawn to the latter, but with Riddle only interested in learning magical secrets he may not yet have discovered on his own.

    Kowalski's memory could also be preserved based on JK Rowling's favorite deus ex machina: love. It's repeatedly called a magic stronger than death. In the movie, Grindelwald would have the elder wand in his possession as he stole it when he was much younger as depictedted in Hallows Part 1, so I disagree when it is said that Grindelwald in this movie does not have the elder wand yet.
    Given that he impersonates himself as Graves and infiltrates the American Ministry, he would have elected to use Grave's wand in order not to raise suspicion about having the elder wand. I mean, although Graves in his own right is a powerful wizard, him suddenly revealing/showing that he is now using an all powerful wand in the elder wand would in itself be a bit iffy. Unlike Voldemort, Grindelwald is a much smarter wizard and thus uses Grave's wand in order to make his impersonation all the more convincing in the eyes of the other Ministry members.

Therefore muggleborns would be immune to having a obscural. this is supported by Harry's upbringing as he was told magic was bad and evil however he himself was unaware he even had powers, so he didnt have a obscural.

    One thing I've never been clear on is the relationship between the wizard and the non-magical world. At times it is stressed that the non-magical world can't know about the wizarding world but then clearly some non-magical folks do know about it (such as the Dursely's).

    Amazing, detailed video. Seriously, I'm speechless. I can't believe how I didn't think of Ariana being an obscurial after seeing this movie. Seems so obvious now. Great observation.

    Also, when Kowalski rubs his neck wound at the end, it's a Murtlap bite. Murtlap's dorsal anemone growth is known to lessen the effect of some spells when pickled. Maybe a little of that going on too?

    personally I think it was more of a " we ALL die just a little " rather than " we all DIE just a little " like a threat that he was gonna get back at him

    I was under the impression that Queeny's kiss had something to do with restored memories. He only remembered after seeing her again.

    They way I saw Kowalski remembering what he did, was that the swooping evil venom was losing potency when he went out.

    Grindelwald is mentioned in Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone, in a card played by ron, when they talk about nicholas flamel, grindelwald defeated Dumbledore in 1945. for the discovery of the twelve uses of dragon's blood and his work on alchemy with his partner Nicholas Flamel.

    There is a theory that because Grindewald was so good at transfiguration he didn't even need polyjuice potion in order to get Graves' identity hence why Newt was able to reveal him using "revelio." Also, the Salem witch trials didn't only target women. Men were targets as well. Some examples are John Proctor and Giles Corey. Hence why the Obscural was Credence and not the little girl.
