This studio version isn't as outstanding as his live version in High Fidelity which totally rules.
He said because he wasn't bringing his A game, the director chewed out everyone on set except for him, and that gave him even more pressure to give his all.
I agree the live version was better.
I have no doubt Jack Black is motivated by his audience, so I'm sure that played a part in it. Not surprised the director of High Fidelity was mean, either. Do you guys get the feeling he's kind of anal about singing songs the way he's heard them sung?
I have the soundtrack and I love it. CD sounds better. I think the arrangement and keyboard is especially nice. I love both versions.

@@DMurdock More ! since 1994! Actually Tenacious D performed in SNL in 1995 and 1998, they had his show in HBO since1997 until 2000 too i guess. And like 6 albums with Tenacious D (he and Kyle Gass)

First saw JB do this in High Fidelity. Last time I heard this was as a kid in 60s by Marvin, but was too 'deep' into protest tunes to grok a 'self centered love song'. Which was my opinion, of much that Motown produced. But JB brought it back for me, & I Love Marvin, for dropping the original, which this studio track pays great propers to. So in my astronomy, JBs get 3&4 stars, MGs gets a 5 !!!!!
