    I would love to see a broad video on how plastics effect health, especially what is generally accepted by the research community versus what is newer or less accepted research

  • @MichePhD

    2 notes/clarifications that I thought of while editing:
    1. This is pretty “bleeding edge” stuff--see the meta-science part at the end of the video. But it is the same type of evidence that was used to find that smoking causes lung cancer-after decades of everyone smoking and being sure it was harmless. (Doctors even prescribed "healthy" cigarettes!)
    So although this is certainly not yet cut and dry (which is why I say “potential cause” right in the intro), what I talk about in the video deserves at least strong suspicion as a cause of acne.
    2. Phytoestrogens themselves are not necessarily universally great (they have some good health effects, and some potential minor drawbacks), so definitely not saying we should be supplementing with pure phytoestrogens or anything. But I meant that the foods that contain phytoestrogens-like coffee, garlic, grapes, flax seed, etc.-are pretty universally a net benefit for our health. Which makes sense, because we evolved to eat foods containing phytoestrogens.

    I heard stories 20 years ago that ACNE is also caused by a liver that is not processing the break down of foods well... everything we consume goes thru the liver first, so toxins leaching from plastic bottles and such, make sense they would overwhelm the liver function. BTW..your skin looks beautiful in this vlog.

      @christopherbrand5360 Před rokem +1

      Not sure what you mean about everything going through the liver. The liver is amazing, but that is an odd way to describe its function.

    I love my silicone reusable bags. They have saved me so much money. I'm glad they are better for health over the plastic bags I used to use.

    My experience with hormonal acne regarding hormonal birth control and phytoestrogens: I was eating a block of firm tofu every day for several months and have been on a progesterone-only BC for at least a year. I had constant chest acne throughout and I theorized that since estrogen-containing BC decreases acne and androgens increase it, I was already in an imbalance due to my BC and blocking my natural estrogen from the phytoestrogen in the tofu! I replaced the tofu with beans/wheat protein and I completely cleared up!
    On topic: If I cook rice in a glass bowl and then transfer the hot rice to a plastic bowl for lunch later to be eaten cold, is there still a risk in eating the food? Thanks for making these videos! They're truly unique and valuable!

    • @MichePhD
      @MichePhD  Před rokem +2

      Oh wow that's interesting, thanks for sharing! I found that reducing my soy intake (when I tried that) actually increased my acne oddly enough. But the connection you make with the imbalance makes total sense. I'm glad it worked for you!
      And yes, that would be a high risk situation unfortunately. If you can, I would let the rice cool first in the glass bowl, then once it's cool, transfer it to the plastic.
      And thank you!

      @@MichePhD I noticed my acne increase when a ate 2-3 slices of tofu a day, but I did get acne on my arm and finger oddly. I suspect there are other things in soy that may be a acne trigger. And high protein foods in general trigger the immune system (e.g. the top 9 food allergens).

    WOWWWW! This is absolutely fascinating!
    I find plastic virtually impossible to avoid :-( Even eating whole foods - it ALL comes wrapped in plastic. Definitely going to try and make some changes though where I realistically can. I was using a stainless steel water bottle then I chipped my tooth on it :-( Not so fun.
    Does it matter if the plastic is kept cold vs heated in the microwave/storing hot food?
    Would absolutely love more videos about plastic! Seems it affects us all in one way or another.
    Thanks Miche! :D

    I used to have great skin even though I never did anything particularly to it; no special cleansing routines etc. Then I had a total hysterectomy about 15 years ago as a result of a pelvic infection and have had constant acne problems since despite trying all sorts of things. Guess I have to resign myself to it 😞. Thanks for your work Miche.

    Is there a way to remove plastics or hormone -disrupters from the body once they are in? I am overweight, and I know fat stores a lot of the fat contaminents. I would love a video on methods to get rid plastic chemicals already in the body.

    Given the plastic issue, how would you be getting larger amounts of drinking water? Many of us are getting 5-gallon water bottles delivered for office environments, or to buy much more economically for a home. Is a 5-gallon glass bottle the only safe type of container?

    I’d love to know if you have any recommendations for skincare brands that avoid plastic. As someone who is super sensitive to fragrance and has to avoid them it’s difficult enough to find products that don’t have any fragrance or essential oils. Everything I have is in a plastic container. 🙃

    Are tupperware containers any better than takeout containers? And are normal reusable plastic dishes/cups that you have in your cupboards safe to use? Is plastic only bad if it is heated up? What about plastic shampoo bottles in the shower or the plastic interior of a hot car? This vid is blowing my mind.

    They found a diet connection in the 1970's and I got rid of my acne with a simple change of diet. Another guy I knew went to the dermatologist did what he was told including drugs. and the opposite diet. We called him pizza face. LOL Fat, sugar, caffeine, and Iodine. BP A-S and beyond (148 or more) were not a thing yet and they disrupt hormones in every one. So yes I knew.

    I have a hard time watching health videos because they always make me nervous because they always say everything I eat and do is wrong, so I ask people to watch some videos for me and tell me a short version of what they said. If anyone watched this video and is willing to tell me, did she mention any connection between vitamin A and this bad chemical, BPA? I have often heard that vitamin A is helpful for acne.
