      Kinda funny that it's mostly other influencers/celebrities that are criticizing him. Almost like he's setting a higher standard of being famous and rich, and they wanna continue to be assholes and liars that are easily influenced by bribes and ad revenue.
      Like now we see that it is possible to be rich and famous and a good person.
      Like of course that NFL player doesn't get it. He gets great service and great food for just being famous so wtf does he care if that same restaurant treats their other customers like shit.

      Because people feel called out when Keith Lee said he didn't want any special treatments. Even though his statement isn't directly aimed at anyone, those who use their celebrity statuses to get special treatments and into places are offended because they feel guilty. They feel the needs to defend places that give out preferential treatments because they can continue to take advantage of that.
      In situations like this, celebrities and influencers words have no weight because they're always gonna get treated nicely for their fame (since people recognize them ).
      Thus, Keith Lee's strategy of sending out his family members in first to get the authentic treatments. Because as an average ordinary customer, you probably don't wanna go to some places which will treat you accordingly to how famous/rich you are.

    • @1llustrousking

He is a show boater whenever he comes to town he eats at expensive restaurants and leaves $1000+ tips and it makes the news so absolutely he expects to have his ass kissed. He loves attention so this guy refusing preferential treatment had to feel like a personal attack to him. 😂

    Why are people going after Keith Lee??? From everything i've heard about this situation, the way restaurants are run in Atlanta just sucks balls. I wont go to businesses with inaccurate or inconsistent hours of business, weird and unclear rules around when they do and dont offer takeout, god awful customer service, etc. Consistency is bare minimum for running a business unless you serve until you run out of food. Even then you should open at the same time on days you're open. Are the people of Atlanta being gaslit into believing sh*t customer service and innacurate biz info should be status quo? Hold them to the bare minimum standard instead lmao

      Not all restaurants in Atlanta suck balls. In fact, as someone who grew up in Atlanta, I have never had a bad restaurant experience there. You just need to do a bit of homework and check the reviews of a restaurant, like how it is at literally every other place in the world. Are there shitty restaurants in Atlanta? Of course. There’s shitty restaurants everywhere tho.

    • @bird3938
      @bird3938 Před 7 měsíci +29

      @@Anze99there's a higher concentration of restaurants with shitty experiences, wait time, price and staff than most other places (including other big cities). Most of the time the food is good but about 85%+ of the time it's extremely lacking in one or more of those ares. Maybe you just don't see it that way bc you're used to it? Of the places i've been, Atlanta restaurants (independent AND chain) have been the worst across the board.

    'Don't criticize my restaurant because no one asked"
    Better yet. I know a way to avoid all criticism if that is what you really want...Don’t own a restaurant. Then you don’t have to deal with criticism to your business.
    The unfortunate thing about owning a business and putting your things out into the world is that there will always be people who have an opinion. It is up to the business owner to evaluate what criticism they will be taking in and what they won't. All Keith did was give his opinion. If you didn't ask, why does it matter what he thinks?

    • @frumtheground
      @frumtheground Před 7 měsíci +22

      Exactly. It's like becoming an artist and expecting not to be critiqued by an art critic. The whole point of a restaurant is to provide good food AND good service. The whole experience should be worth it to anyone who's willing to pay whatever they're paying.

    • @samanthafairweather9186
      @samanthafairweather9186 Před 7 měsíci +16

      The ironic thing is that they DID ask! They just didn't get to do the full suck-up part, which 99% of restaurants do when they know a critic is coming/in the restaurant. He does it incognito, by sending in his wife and kids, to get the HONEST service - not the celebrity special!

    • @t-and-p
      @t-and-p Před 7 měsíci +19

      This! 👍
      Years ago, my cousin ran a pub that also served food. Ordinarily, she got great feedback but, on a particularly busy Sunday, a critic from the local paper came in and gave her a not-so-great review (it wasn't negative, but wasn't positive, either).
      So she contacted the paper and invited the critic back. Showed her round the kitchen, introduced the staff, showed how the food was prepared, and they discussed what might have gone wrong on the day of the initial review. The critic had a lot of experience and my cousin had only been in the business a few years at that point, so she kindly gave her advice and my cousin took in on board.
      A few weeks later, the critic came back unannounced, ate as a normal customer, and gave a great review. But the piece in the paper was set out differently. It included the visit, the tour, and the fact that advice had been willingly taken on-board and implemented.
      Food trade shot up - not just because of the review, but because many of the customers said they were impressed by a business that handled criticism well and took the opportunity to learn and improve.
      *That's* how you handle criticism. You don't get snarky, you learn from it and improve your craft.

    I think the only influencers/celebs dogging on Keith Lee are just worried that it might make the restaurants start treating _them_ like ordinary customers too & they will lose their "special" treatment. Either worried their money can no longer buy preferential treatment or their social infulence can no longer get them free meals with their "do you know who I am" attitudes. Like... "What do you mean he wants to be treated like everyone else, pays for his food _and_ tips well when he likes the meal/service?!"

    Speaking on the tipping culture thing- for most, if not all places, within the US the LEGAL minimum wage for servers/bartenders can be 2-3$ total meaning nearly all of it is taxed and pulled. Their wage is made up ENTIRELY from tips. When I was a server I made $3.25 an hour and it was considered a GOOD wage in the area I was working. Meanwhile, the minimum wage in other jobs are $7.25. IF servers don't make tips, they're essentially working for free. They're not paid a livable wage by their employer, they're expected to "make" that money whilst working by pleasing the customers. That means if they don't make tips, they could be earning a paycheck of $40 dollars? Maybe. Like it's very dependent on where you live, the taxes they pull, etc but for the most part it's nothing more than a reminder to save money to pay your taxes because- oh yeah, they tax your tips, too, so you will end up owing during tax season every year.

      Which is sadly why many employers advocate for servers to not claim their cash tips - so they will only be taxed on their credit tips and the gov won’t know what cash they take in. When I first started serving, I had a table of servers from another restaurant write on my receipt “here’s your tax-free tip!!” And gave me all cash…. But everyone knows that as a server you never get a real paycheck, you get a piece of legal paper showing how all the taxes were taken out with a paystub that says “this is not a check”

    From what my foodie friend says, this culture of exclusivity/valuing celebrity is an element of the food scene for Atlanta's black community. The fancy mostly white restaurants have their own issues. Then we've got a large number of Hispanic restaurants (largely from Mexico, but also notable numbers of Honduran and Guatemalan restaurants), Korean restaurants, and Chinese restaurants, as well as the Buford Highway corridor known for authentic food from tens (hundreds?) of international cuisines.
    As well, this cachet of wealth and fame makes sense when you look at other facets of culture, like Atlanta's rap culture.

    In America, minimum wage is different state-to-state. Some states require that everybody is paid the minimum wage, whereas other states can pay "tipped" employees *less* than minimum wage. For example, in Michigan, a "tipped" employee can be paid as a little as $3.84 per hour while the state's minimum wage is $10.33. In other states, such as Montana, the minimum wage is $10.30, regardless of the employment type.

    Yeah, in America, servers' wages are determined by tips. According to the US Department of Labor "An employer of a tipped employee is only required to pay $2.13 per hour in direct wages if that amount combined with the tips received at least equals the federal minimum wage." And if they don't make enough in tips to get them to the minimum wage, the employer has to make up that difference. So tips are basically the wage for the employee.
    Some states have laws that require employers to pay tipped employees a higher direct wage than $2.13. Where I live the minimum wage for tipped employees is $10.63. Which is better than the federal minimum, but the minimum wage for non-tipped employees is 3 dollars higher, and it just doesn't seem right to set a lower wage for tipped-employees just because they receive tips imo.

  • @UltravioletStarGirl9
    @UltravioletStarGirl9 Před 7 měsíci +1

    In America you usually get paid between $2-4 hourly for waiting tables. It depends on what restaurant you work at regarding how you receive your tip money. Some restaurants let you keep all of your tip, but others make you pool or split your tips. So, you could have earned a $20 tip at your table and your coworker earns ¢.32 at their table, but you have to split all the tips so she gets $10 of my $20 tip. That is a real scenario. It was my life. Also, if people tip on credit cards and that's how you're earning your tips you have to keep track of that because you don't want to get screwed over when tax season comes. Always tip in cash people!!

    Just a bit of history of tipping in America. The wages in restaurants are really low: federal wage is $7.25 and average restaurant wage is $2.35. Like most things here, it’s steeped in structural racism. After slavery was abolished, many workers in hospitality and service jobs were former slaves. To “keep slaves in their place” they were paid very little and had to hustle for tips. This practice has stayed strong since then for over 100 years. Now with Ms Rona running through, many jobs that didn’t have to get tips are doing just that. Bosses don’t want to pay hazard pay or raise wages so they add a tip line for customers. Welcome to ‘Murica. Now get to work 😈

We go above and beyond to please the customers out front and from inside the kitchen. And it’s nice sharing the tips out between everyone because we all earn minimum wage there and it’s a little bonus each week with our wages. I understand there is the argument that the out of front staff should get all the tips, but people come back to the restaurant for the good food as well:)
