Hey Hans, I love all these little hacks making the tent more functional...Great video edit too really well thought out with extra touches.... Video straight to the point as well which is very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to carefully film and edit... Keep up the great work... best wishes Tom
Hello Hans, I'm waiting for my x mid to arrive and have very much enjoyed you instructive videos. Thank you for all your work bringing these to us. Take care Sir.
I just got my X-Mid 2 and I can't wait to add most of these hacks in! Especially the drying cord and the Trekking pole slot carabiner to hold your pack off the ground, those look so useful and it's so simple to add on. Your videos on the X-Mid definitely helped with my tent selection. I love your choices in music and editing as well. The landscapes you often show are so beautiful and almost eerily calm. I hope to visit Sweden someday soon, it looks so very wonderful there. Thank you for the videos!
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 Heya! I actually ended up going with the mesh inner as I was planning on taking it into some warmer climates this coming summer. I will also have a chance to use it on the snow-covered mountains nearby, and I will be seeing how it holds up in colder/windier weather. I appreciate your videos so the thanks is all mine :)
Great video, Hans. The quality is superb. Audio is a pleasure. Tasteful musical choices. I liked seeing your modifications of the XMid Pro. I've been poking around for some mods for my XMid 1.
Excellent thinking my friend. I like the elastic at the short side ground loops. I currently have a Dyneema blend cord (very thin, extremely light, particularly durable) there to the loops; I have them in a loop, with a taut line hitch so they can be adjusted. I think the elastics at the short and long door loops would be a fantastic idea and that'd allow you to put the door stakes right in the center of the zipper which would make for a better pitch, then put both doors looped around the stake. I also use the same Dyneema blend cord (by GO! Outfitters) as my clothesline inside. Instead of the toggles I just tied one end off, and on the other end did the same loop with a taut line hitch. Nothing to rub against the fly that way and abrade a hole in it (either during a windy night or during transport). As a general rule, I try to eliminate any hard points coming in contact with the fly by using a line with a taut line hitch. Much lighter, no fail points, no hard points to abrade anything, and very convenient to use for anything at the moment. By the way, your English is quite good and thank you for taking the time to make this video!
Hi Dangeroudge it’s the first time I’ve got positive feedback for my English 😂 thanks so much You have many interesting ideas for other hacks and I know that people are looking in the comments for response and that is very helpful - thanks again 😊
Very nice! I too changed out the stakes immediately. I did not know about the Sea to Summit Ground Control. I'm using something different to attach extra guylines but that's a nice gadget.
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 I added four foot guylines to replace the corners. I used 2.4mm Nite Ize. This way I can tie them around objects if need be. Or when on snow I can use deadman anchors. This is Andrew Skurka's method. czcams.com/video/slOhlEmBwwY/video.htmlsi=9UOrmDmfsIDFgtzb I recently purchased 2mm dyneema reflective guylines I intend to try out.
For anyone new watching, just got my xmid 1 solid today, the tent stakes it came with are actually sturdy and seem to be of nice quality. Not the same as in this video
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 Yep, Dan's providing 4x6" DAC stakes (7g) and 4x8" stakes (16g). when you buy them from durstongear directly. I think the tent purchased on Kaviso might not be updated with new stakes (yet).
Hey Hans, maybe I missed it but what are you using the shephard stakes for? My X-Mid Solid 2p, which arrived yesterday, came with 4x 18cm and 4x 15cm stakes (which are actually quite different from the ones you showed - more similar to the DAC V-best) and no shephard stakes. Thanks for this video. It's really helpful :)
Yep, when you order direct from Durston, they provide the same DAC stakes that Hans is using now. You have to order the tent in parts from Durston, though... as I believe the Kaviso supplied tents still use the older pegs.
Hi Hans great video would you mind me asking what millimetre the elastic cord is and where to get it from going to take you up on the sea to summit guylines also I bought extra msr ones for my msr hubba hubba nx2 but I like the look of them more from Lancashire UK 😀👍
Hi Jonny thank you for your nice comment 😉 I have bought my elastic cord in a hoppy store, first I thought that it needed to be some special cord. I just went for the thinnest, knowing that it wouldn’t last forever, but easily replaced when it loses its elasticity over time.
@@hanskirk-hiking9697 okay hans will look into thanks for your swift reply and a quick tip from me get the MSR tent peg hammer might seem a little extreme but they're light as hell and sturdy buggers the swing weight ratio is amazing and it's help me out in downpours where you just want to get on with pitching I can't recommend it highly enough plus it's got a beer bottle cap opener integrated into it result atb and happy camping buddy 😀👍❤
Great video! very cool :) I still can t decide between the 1 vs the 2 p version 😬 Is it possible with some creativity to put in the 1p version a pair of shoes or a backpack?
Hi Pascal yes I think so, but I have the 2 person version. Because I like to have plenty of space and the possibility to invite a family member to join me in the tent. The X-Mid is famous for its large vestibules (2) Maybe you could have your backpack and shoes there! I think the biggest problem with the 1 person version is that there’s not so much space when you’re sitting up because one of the sides is sloping. Was my answer helpful?
@@hanskirk-hiking9697thanks a lot for your answer! Yes it was helpful! Why do you use the solid version ald not another one for example the dynima version or the non solid one? And are you always confident to be able to pitch your tent whereever you go (for example in other countries)? Have you ever had problems to pitch you xmid because of its dependance on pegs?
Thank you… the X-Mid is in my opinion difficult to pitch correctly especially in uneven terrain. Sometimes if the ground is loose there’s a lot of tension on the pegs, a rock on top of the pegs helps
