  • This lesson is part of 4 lessons. The first two deal with the question if miracles are happening today. The third is a lesson about how God works today through His providence. This lesson will discuss who demons are and if demon possession is still here today.

I enjoy your lessons and value them highly. I try to listen to at least one everyday. I have three daughters that was reared n the church and now have forsaken the faith. The oldest doesn't believe in organized religion. She is 48 yo and lives in Brooklyn. The other two daughters live with each other in Acworth Ga. They are 45 and 37 yo. One attends a church called Victory, nondenominational and the other one attends a church that has a band. I have been accused of being in league with satan because I tell them that those churches are not found in the Bible. They become angry with me. I fear for their souls and the souls of their 3 children. This has been and issue for at least 10 years. One reads her bible daily and studies and still cannot see the truth. I send them your videos often. Please continue to teach the word and pray for my children and grandchildren. I told them I will never stop trying to get them back in the church. God Bless!

Thank you for your kind words. I am sorry that your children have went a different direction. It happens sometimes despite how they were raised. I know you want the best for them, and I hope they understand that. This old world has away of turning people from the truth. I wish it didn't happen but it does. However, we must never give up because God's Word is powerful and it can change people. Keep on pressing forward and maybe one day your words of encouragement will lead to great things. I will continue to do my best to preach sound lessons from God's Word.

The miraculous abilities have ceased (1Cor.13:8-12). This includes the ability to "cast out demons" (Mk.16:17-20). Hence, if demons could still possess us, we would have no means of ridding ourselves of them (cp. Ac.19:13-17). As a result, we would be hopelessly at the mercy of Satan. However, the Bible does not picture us as helpless victims of Satan, but as overcomers through Jesus (Rm.8:37-39; 1Cor.10:13; 1Pt.5:8-9). "He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world" (1Jn.4:4).

The demon possessing the man with the seven sons of sceva (acts 19) beat up 8 ( the 7 sons and their father) but
Did not harm himself, so they (demons) don't always harm their hosts 100% of the time. At least not outwardly.

Some Jews believed that the angels who sinned were the sons of God who laid with women in Genesis 6. This thought is preserved in 1 Enoch, a popular book before and at the time of the apostles. The book is even referenced by Peter and quoted by Jude.

Some want to make this verse difficult and even use it to show that demon possession is here today. All verse 12 is showing is that we are in a spiritual battle with the devil and those who work for him. However, we can stand against the devil and his ways by putting on the whole armor of God, which includes the Word of God and living by it and through the power of prayer. This is not referring to something miraculous, but is saying that we are in spiritual battle and that it can be won by using the whole armor of God and the sword of the spirit.

Demon possession is rarely found in either the Old Testament or after the ascension of Jesus. Study Matthew 12 to see Jesus’ discussion of what was happening as He cast out demons. He was doing this to bind the strong man (Satan) before the Lord entered the house Satan possessed. Jesus entered that house and came out of Hades possessing the keys. Satan was ruined for he no longer could trouble men by the fear they had of death (Heb. 2:14-15). Study these passages carefully. Jesus had to visibly show, by casting out demons, that He and His apostles had power over Satan.

Dear Bro. Collins, I have tried to live a Christian life, not only for my own soul, but also for my children's. They become so angry with me when I quote scripture. Do you have a lession on how to approach family members without putting them on the defensive. Thanks for your encouraging words and prayers.

    • @LGministry
      @LGministry  Před 6 lety +1

There is no one fit answer to your questions since everyone is different. If you quote Scripture to those who don't want anything to do with God on the Bible, they will become angry. While there is nothing wrong with with quoting Scripture, you might need to take a different approach such as being walking epistle. Sometimes your example and the way you handle situations using God's Word as your foundation can influence a person in a positive way that can open up their hearts to receive those Scriptures. I think about the example in Peter.
1 Peter 3:1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives,
2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.
Just keep trying different methods until you find one that works. However, you must also understand that if a person is set against God and His ways, no approach may work. Not even God Himself will force someone to change. We all have a choice, but sometimes we make the wrong choice.

In the program E-sword, I looked up the word devil with the regular expression function, which looks for that word in all of its usages. such as devil devils, devilish,
there are 104 verses listed many of which use the term devils plural, yes I agree there is one chief devil, satan, the serpent, the accuser of the brethren, the tempter, the dragon, the great red dragon, lucifer, as he has many names.
Mar_16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Luk_8:2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
Mar 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Mar 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
Mar 5:11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
Mar 5:12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
Mar 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
Luk 8:38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
unclean spirits and devils are used interchangeably, and it did not do any good for them to enter the swine because the swine would die in the sea and they would then be without a home again in a short manner.
devils are found in both old and new testaments,
The KJV is quite clear there are devils plural, there are unclean spirits plural I think they are all the same, but in any case, both can possess a person.
1Sa 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
Mar_16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Let us reason together. I pray that we be one as brothers in Christ. I’ve been searching the Scriptures concerning this topic. I’ve viewed your lesson in the hope of gleaming a better understanding of God’s Word. I need the Truth.
    #1
Is demon possession an accurate translation from the Greek? We agree with God’s Word that man has free will. Thus, the translation ‘demon possessed’ indicates that we have no free will.
God forbid. Let God be true but every man a liar [Romans 3:4]. Would demonized or having a demon be more accurate for δαιμονίζομαι (daimonizomai)?
    #2
You asserted that demons worshiped Jesus. Does the Scriptures agree?
In Mark 5:6, the man worshiped Jesus. The man wanted freedom from the demons. The demons preferred to stay in their house [Matthew 12:44]. Is there a Biblical example of Satan or any demon worshiping God? Didn’t Satan want Jesus to worship him [Matthew 4:9]?
    #3
You asserted that demons would exercise super human strength in a host. Does the Scriptures agree?
In Acts 16:16, the woman with the spirit of divination only exercised super natural knowledge.
    #4
You asserted that demons only entered people in the New Testament. Does the Scriptures agree?
Jews who were living under the covenant of Abraham said the following:
And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebub,” and, “By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.”
    Mark 3:22 NKJV
Is this acknowledgment that demons have entered people in the past and during the earthly ministry of Jesus?
What is meant by Isaiah 61:3 “spirit of heaviness” and Hosea 5:4 “spirit of harlotry” in light of Ephesians 5:9?
To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
    The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
    Isaiah 61:3 NKJV
“They do not direct their deeds
    Toward turning to their God,
For the spirit of harlotry is in their midst,
And they do not know the Lord.
    Hosea 5:4 NKJV
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),
    Ephesians 5:9 NKJV
The Spirit of God is everything good and holy. If it’s evil then it’s not of God. The spirit of heaviness and harlotry appear to be unclean spirits.
    #5
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
    Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
    Colossians 2:15 NKJV
Is Paul telling Christians that we wrestle with evil spirits? Did Paul say that Jesus disarmed the evil spirits through the cross?
Christ Jesus fulfilled Zachariah 13:2. But did He put away all unclean spirits? Does I John 4:3 indicate another evil spirit that will enter the world?
and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
    I John 4:3 NKJV
Is I John 4:3 indicating that people who don’t confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh have the spirit of the Antichrist? Is this the same as saying daimonizomai?

It should be considered that since the age of miracles has ended (1Corinthians 13:8-13), and the ability to cast out demons is classified in the New Testament as a miraculous ability (Mark 9:38-41), then the ability to cast out demons is no longer available to man. Since therefore the ability to cast out demons is no longer available it should be understood that God no longer allows people (Christians or non-Christians) to be adversely affected by demons. If a physical or mental infirmity prevents people today from being able to hear, understand, accept and obey the gospel it should not be blamed on demon possession. That would be inconsistent with the teaching of the New Testament.

Two things I would like to address. First; I am positive that the Demons are the Fallen Angels. In Matt 25:41 Satan is referred to as the Prince of the Demons. This is verified in Rev. 12:9. Also I have not seen in scripture that the spirits of evil men had superhuman strength. We do know that angels did.
Secondly; I do not believe that there is a need for demon possession or Satan and his demons are still here influencing the world. Satan left his "eggs" here on earth. Read 1 John 2:16.
I encourage one to study Genesis 1and 2 to get a better understanding of sin and its origin. It is fascinating.

I still can't find any scriptures that teach demon possession no longer occurs. Actually
Rev 9 and 16 allude to demons being loosed upon the earth and "going forth"
To the "kings of the earth and the entire world" (rev 16:13) some sort of "mass possession"

    • @kac0404
      @kac0404 Před 2 lety +2

God from long ago had a timeframe in which demons would operate in the way we read about in the New Testament. But, this time frame would not last forever. God prophesied through Zechariah that demon possession would end (Zechariah 13:2). Exorcisms were a miracle that God performed through Jesus and the hands of men, and Paul stated that miracles also were not to last forever, but only were here until “the perfect” came, which is the completed word of God (1 Corinthians 13:8-13). Demon possession was indeed a miracle, for it involved something supernatural (not of this world). So the need for demon possession does not exist in our modern time, for it no longer serves God’s purpose.

Were some of the apostles still alive then? Were miracles still being done then? If yes, then that answers question. Have you ever noticed that the further the time get past Pentecost the less miracles and mentioning of demons occur? As long as their were miracles happening there was also demon possession. I still find it interesting how we hear about miracles and demon possession overseas in 3rd world countries, yet no one seems to be able to capture a video of a man or women have super natural strength like what happened to some of those recorded in the N.T. You never see an undeniable miracle such as wither hand becoming whole. It's always something internal. However, when you take the Word at what it teaches then it makes perfect sense because these things are no longer happening today because their primary purpose was to confirm the Word that was be proclaimed (Mk. 16:20).

A theory derived from the book of Enoch says they are the spirits of the nephilim, children of the watchers (fallen angels) and daughters of man. They couldn’t enter heaven. It was part of the punishment to the fallen angels that their sons spirits would roam and be miserable. I know it’s controversial, but that’s what it says. Demons are spiritual beings (Matthew 8:16), they are not simply changes in personality that develop in a person, but enact a distinct and sudden change, foreign to the person. These are spirit beings that were able to leave the human body and enter into swine (Mark 5:12-13). Demons no longer exist today in this sort. The fact is God no longer needs demon possession to exist, because He has completed His message to mankind, and has given us a complete word that needs no addition, making demon possession no longer valid in proving Jesus as the Messiah.

Say in video (demons are the spirits of the wicked dead)
