My theory: Steven decides he needs to blow off steam safely, so he goes into Rose's room, which is where we see the house scenes and the running through the forest. Some stuff happens and he ends up punching the tree and inadvertently cracking the temple from the inside. He freaks out, goes to the hospital, and soon after that, the combination of his stress/anxiety, Pink Diamond powers, and his poor ability to shapeshift turn him into Wormy Boi. I feel like these last few episodes are going to be heavily centered on the core Gems (and Greg and Connie) and how much of a family they are. I expect there will be callbacks to when Steven helped Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet with their troubles.

With Garnet’s description that corruption is like MC Bear Bear “tore the fabric of his mind,” I think it wasn’t quite supposed to be analogous to mental illness, but to some sort of psychological scarring. More of a trauma than a sickness.
The idea that Steven could fuse with Jasper could mean he may share some of her experiences of corruption that may be too much for him to handle.

The show is based off expressing your emotions through positive and negative view points. I believe corruption is kinda like having an emotion break or an anxiety attack but, for gems. Often times people who go through these attacks become someone else that they dont recognize or like their being "corrupted" in a situation.

There's ten episodes. I doubt they could wrap up previous loose ends, the SUF loose ends, and then new Diamonds in 110 minutes.

I feel like most people should understand that corruption is something that I think has to happen due to ALL diamonds, not just yellow, blue, and white. the evidence for this goes as following:
1. Steven was able to partially heal Centipeedle in the series. If his mother had nothing to do with it, (keep on reading, I'll get to that part) how would he be able to heal a gem related thing like corruption? And as much as a gem cracking is also a gem related thing, it doesnt take half a brain to know that gem corruption and gem cracking are not related in the slightest.
2. "The Song" Corruption is associated with. Think about it. When the diamonds launched their blast toward earth, it was meant to eradicate all gems on there. And the ray wasn't faulty, it was going to do rightfully so. However, Rose/Pink Diamond used her shield to protect herself, pearl, and garnet from the blast. An immense amount of power like that hitting a strong shield would create a rebound of energy going all throughout earth, as well as a monster vibration. And what comes from vibrations? Sound. The song could have been a sound coming from the rebound. And with Rose/Pink Diamond's shield rebounding it, part of her energy could have mixed in as well.
This is just a theory, so I'm not stating it as cold hard truth.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in this. Thos explains why the Diamonds were confused when they saw the corrupted gems. They expected to just wipe them out

I think the real reason why gems are corrupting is by their mental, emotional and physical state. I did some research on the diamond that corrupted the other Crystal gems and Identify the diamonds power, for example Yellow's power is to alter a gem's physical forms of a gem. Blue's power is to give negative/positive emotions (since pink diamond's fake shattering, it will be negative emotions). White's power is to control the minds of other gems and leaving them like mindless zombies or monsters, do you see my point? If no, well, all of these traits are what Steven has been going through like questioning his pink glow and growing body, his guilt and trauma, his fear of being a senseless Diamond or monster. The diamond blast did affect the rebel gems but in a mental emotional and physical way. Like what happened to Steven

Cosmic Dragons Rebecca stated that she doesn’t want to end Steven Universe as a whole anytime soon, but this could only be one season because Zach Callison is taking a break so after his break is over Rebecca will probably get all the actors together again and start scripting recording producing etc a new sequel show likely after another time skip.

A gems physical form depends on what they chose to look like - it’s more or less reflective of their mental state.
In change your mind the gems came back more human-like because Steven had changed them in a way that made them think more like a human
If a gems mind is torn and they start to think in such a way that they’re thinking like a monster then they could be turned into a monster.
Alternatively if they start to think like they’re a problem when they’re not, then they could become a problem.
For example:
If Steven starts to think like a giant problem to everyone and that he’s wrecking the lives due to the fact that he’s ‘lost his touch’ then he’ll become all that.
This would explain why corrupted Steven would be so big and why it/he would be so destructive in this form.
And (this isn’t as serious) if he wants to get away badly then his gem will react in a such a way that allows him to get away. Like when he wants to protect his friends his gem responds and gives him his shield or his bubble, so maybe when he wants to get away his gem responds by giving him wings for example. But Stevens body is...difficult when it comes to shapeshifting and overtime he could allow his wings to overtake him, creating an entirely new being like in ‘cat fingers’.
This could explain why he could potentially turn into a dragon:
Giant problem = giant beast
Wrecking things = fire
Wanting to escape = wings

if corruption IS supposed to represent a tear to the mind that would make alot of sense since the first way such as an attack from the diamond could reflect how you feel presssured by a person, enough to lash out and lose yourself the second way is being in an abusive relationship with an already torn person. listening to all their problems and helping them also tears you apart in the process,

I like the idea of poofing when under extreme emotional distress being a failsafe for corruption. It could be the most likely way Steven corrupts too, since Rebecca Sugar said that Steven would die if he poofed, or at least his organic half would, which could explain the heart attack type scenario in the trailer. Anyway, I think that since he can’t poof, his mind will begin to snap and shatter, bringing about corruption.
Watch him heal his corruption on his hand after running in the bathroom and then the series ends

Here’s my opinion: Only a Diamond’s power can corrupt a character with no prior contact with corruption. Steven has diamond powers, so why not? Biologically, shapeshifting and corruption seem similar, so I have no doubt he physically can. I think it’s more than obvious WHY it would happen. I’m just about mentally prepared.

One thing that makes me sure that Steven would even be able to turn into that creature from that opening is that when he was attempting form shifting in the original series, his cat overloaded form was way larger than his original body, and meaning even when not in a fusion he can grow larger somehow and might not even be in control of the entire body at the time.

Like Penguino Del Rio said (scroll down to see their comment, it’s great I just wanted to make my own comment rather than replying) fusing with Jasper could be too much to handle but also could have something to do with Steven always being the one that is listening to other people’s problems. If he got Jasper to open up and come to little homeschool, his efforts might help Jasper to feel better but will ultimately tip Steven over the edge. Listening to everyone else’s problems will fog his mind so much that when he can’t handle it anymore, he’ll corrupt.

We've only seen Steven stretch himself or shape shift small parts of his body, not ACTUALLY change his whole form like Amethyst can. So it's a HUGE jump from stretching your legs a bit to turning into a GIANT WORM.

See the more I think about it I keep thinking maybe steven ends up fusing with the cluster by accident, creating the giant wormy boi and accidentally corrupting himself by the fusion occuring and fear or events before hand, because no matter what he always has the cluster. I just think the cluster would explain the size and intimidation factor. I could be wrong and I won't go into much detail but I can hope
This would explain the spikes/horns, as those could all be gem shards fused together, however peridot did state that the fusion would destroy the planet if it were to emerge, so unless this happens on the surface and not underground then I don't see this happening

I honestly think if wormy boy is corrupted Steven, the reason why it's so huge is because he is a diamond. Steven as part human is extremely small but diamonds are supposed to be massive. Even the runt pink was larger than most other gems. I think if a diamond is corrupted they would have to be massive and intimidating. I think part of the size of the corruption reflects how powerful and large the gem is/was.
I don’t support the corrupted Steven theory because I feel like having a teen dealing with PTSD and then turning into a literal monster isn’t really a fair way to convey people dealing with trauma. I deal with trauma finally there is a main character in a show like this dealing with trauma, and I would sleep a lot better at night knowing that just because i have to deal with trauma doesn’t make me the monster i think i am
That's okay you're entitled to your own opinions but I don't think that's what they meant "if you deal with trauma you are a monster" I think that's far from the truth
I think the message is exactly what vox said with a bit more yes steven is going through a lot of things right now but the problem is he's losing himself in the process it's not about being a monster but knowing that with mental illness or sickness there are ways of healing but you have to make the effort to take that step forward and accept it or have those there like the gems and connie to keep you grounded and feeling loved and accepted
