10 Poorest Towns in England

  • What are the poorest towns in England? Regardless of how affluent how a country is, poverty is still going to mark its presence in some of its communities, even if it’s not that gripping. This situation is quite obvious in England. To define the poorest towns in England, we have to look at towns with neighborhoods lacking basic social infrastructures such as parks, pubs, and sporting facilities. They are also towns with little or no government funding to catch up with other towns in the availability of shops, cultural assets, sports facilities, and open spaces where people can meet and engage in community life. In this video, we shall discuss some of the 10 poorest towns in England to illustrate this point.
    10. Rochdale
If you have to understand the poverty state of this large town in Greater Manchester, check successive government figures about the LSOA which includes Rochdale town center based on the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). You’d see that in all domains of income, wages, employment, education, health, and housing, the town is among the most deprived.
For almost a decade when the attention has been shifted to this town as one of the poorest towns in the UK, a number of scathing articles have featured its condition in the national press. In response, a network of multi-million-pound plans has been put in place which to transform the area. For instance, the town’s housing association is working on upgrading the township housing scheme. However, this doesn’t come without a fierce backlash in form of petitions.
    9. Hastings
There’s nothing to really justify millions of pounds of investment in Hastings on the southeast coast of England. For decades, it’s been ranked repeatedly as one of the most deprived towns in England. Grassroots charities’ efforts to improve things with programs such as neighbor-helping-neighbor have not been successful; food charities are unable to bridge the gap.
In Hastings, there’s the catchy phrase "heating or eating" which shows how bad it is to access basic amenities there. Politicians and journalists usually emphasize the phrase to illustrate the daily dilemma of people who have serious struggles to make ends meet. After feeding, you may not have enough to heat your home and have to endure cold. School attendance and attainment are nothing to write home about here as too many children grow up in poor households.
    8. Darwen
Data from towns in Lancashire gave us an insight into how poor Darwen is. It is among the top 5 most dangerous medium-sized towns in the ceremonial and non-metropolitan county of Lancashire and it is among the overall top 20 most dangerous out of 236 towns, villages, and cities in the area. Consider the overall crime rate in the town in 2021 which was 99 crimes per 1,000 people. It is 22 percent higher than Lancashire's overall crime rate of 77 per 1,000. Additionally, Darwen is the 57th most dangerous medium-sized town in all of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Why are we highlighting the crime situation in Darwen? Because the town is very poor and poverty there is aiding crime.
    7. Oldham
Oldham in Greater Manchester will not be here if it had maintained its proud history as one of the 19th century largest cotton-producing areas on the globe. However, it suffered the same fate as most of the textile industrial towns in England when the foreign competition was too stiff and was strangulating the local industry.

Not at all surprising when you consider that the staple industry for over a century was cotton. The collapse of the textile industry was followed by that of the engineering industries that originally developed alongside it. There was a dense and labour-intensive railway network -almost all now gone, there was coal-mining -all gone. Essentially a late-Victorian economy progressively collapsed after the artificial stimulus of WW2 production ended, and the situation has been aggravated by an influx of labour from the Indian subcontinent whose numerous progeny now struggle to find worthwhile employment.

Wow, 6 out of the 10 in Lancashire. The town of my birth, Blackburn, has been going downhill since the 70's when industry started to disappear. I suppose the same applies to all the other places, it is a very sad reflection on Government. We took our daughters to Blackpool in 2007. We had a great time on the Pleasure Beach, seeing shows etc. But the B&B we stayed in told us if we had tried to book a weekend visit they wouldn't have taken our booking with children (aged 12 & 14) as Blackpool is overrun with Hen and Stag parties who behave in an appalling way. Also there were a lot of very aggressive Beggars on the streets who would threaten you if you tried to walk past them without giving them money. No doubt there are many other places in the UK which are just as deprived.

Many people somehow are surprised with blackpool ,but these people aren't thinking rite if they think that the rich who own all ,the facilities in the town will share the riches with the people ,think again it's got most minimum wage jobs per population in the country ,and there's hardly any industry here it's a dead end town sad to say ,and as usual government don't give a shit even recently they had a conference here ,most stay at imperial hotel obviously most will try and get a seaview ,but those put in the back rooms overlook Dickson road and north shore ,just one of many places with buildings decaying boarded up ,and just plain grimness all round but as we know Tories have no hearts ,they have seen this over the years blackpool has given so much to the country ,over couple of hundred years back when it was the only place to go for fun ,but then left to rot by the country .

Too many people, not enough lucrative employment. Drug deaths is just one way to balance overpopulation while providing "Do-Gooders" with employment.
The result is seen throughout history (and who are we to assume that we can change that?)
Rolmanskop, Namibia; Ciudad Peridida, Colombia; Angkor War, Cambodia; Persepolis, Iran; Machu Picchu, Peru.
Just some of the whole Cities that ceased to exist.
So why should not these mere Towns become redundant?

This is hugely distressing. Hopefully something could be done about the cocaine and heroine problems. People can do something more life enhancing. Using drugs means no hope. Yet hope is something we must encourage to enhance and preserve God given life. My suggestion would be to have a read of Science And Health with Key to the Scriptures, in my opinion a very practical book.

Dare anyone with an idea start a business in any of these towns and the communists in power will descend on you like a ton of bricks,I know I tried. I and many of my team upped and left and had to work in London whilst still working on our software company at the time. And the area we left did they go from strength to strength ,not quite but the commies in charge have wonderful lives and magnificent pensions.
China ought to take note of how not to run towns dependent on one business.
