The fact that there is already an excessive amount of demand awaiting its absorption, despite how everyone is frightened and calling the crash, is another reason why it is less likely to occur that way. 2008 saw no one, at least not the broad public, making this forecast, as I'll explain below. The ownership rate was noted to have peaked in 2004 in the other comment. Having previously peaked in the second quarter of 2020, we are currently at the median level. Between 2008 and 2012, it dropped by 3%, and by the second quarter of 2020, it had dropped from 68 to 65.

There's a lot to ponder here. How did she end up with two children and no partner? After the first, how did she get pregnant again? Then there is the idealistic thinking (I need at least two bedrooms) as though she is owed not simply accommodation, but ideal accommodation. And finally, when she was offered as place, she turned it down and moved to a different county.
Then we have the underlying issues of expectation. Back in the 1950's and 1960's, it was common to live in social housing. You rented from the Council and were good to go. There was lots of stock, and you could pick and choose. In 2023, people still think this is the case. It's not. Thatcher's Right to Buy decimated social housing. In short, there are not enough properties out there. If you're going to the Council, you can't expect much these days, and don't expect to be able to pick and choose.
As for private renting, it's a disgrace and is poorly regulated. From no-fault evictions to a complete lack of rent controls and onward to often poor maintenance, private renting is actually the worst kind for tenants. We need new laws put in place.
A complicated set of circumstances set off, largely, by the lady here having not one, but two children without a family foundation. She no doubt loves her kids, but she's clearly not able to take care of them, she really needed to think about the consequences before she arrived here. On the other hand, the system is not in her favor.

There are key lessons to take away from this:
    1) Choose your partner using reasonable criteria before having one or more babies, not because of butterflies. Get commitment first and treat and respect your partner. There is a reason why families made up of older and wiser individuals used to be active in the selection process of an appropriate husband as well as guaranteeing that the bride was raised properly and well-behaved. Some might not like this type of guidance but the alternative is broken homes and broken single moms and therefore broken children too.
    2) Don't "follow your passion" with a personal trainer job, if you're the sole provider for your kids you need to go for something that's well-paid and stable, your feelings come second at that point.
    3) If you're on your own, always keep enough cash in hand before getting comfortable with personal spending and if you can't use a credit card and pay it off every month to at least have access to credit if needed
    4) If you get a council house that fast and at everyone else's expense, be grateful, like VERY grateful. The fact that she was picky about the couch or the location of the accommodation is already a red flag that she struggles with entitlement, which likely affected her relationships too.
    5) Nothing will change until it becomes less socially acceptable to willingly make so many bad choices which also harm the kids. Shame is a good thing, we need more of that. Because social stigma it is a deterrent for bad behavior, as opposed to giving sympathy, and attention, and subsidizing the behavior to shelter the person from the consequences of their actions.

The homelessness among the working is on the rise as well, which means even in working families they can't even afford to rent out a property. That's an issue with the housing market and the fact that the Rich Tycoons and Government Officials who invest their wealth into the property market make a fortune while raising housing prices whenever they feel like it with no real care about people who just want a house to live in. This government has been failing us for many years now and it's really time people voted out the Tories and Labour so we can maybe have a fresh perspective rather than ones that only care about themselves.

Yes, in Germany you can basically steal properties. Eviction thieves can take years.
Phynne conveniently forgets to mention this results in much high rents for Germans (to cover costs of theft through rent arrears) and people who are so deep in debt from stealing properties that they can never live a normal life again.
Sure you can easily steal something like € 50K living in various stolen housing in Germany, but that debt doesn't go away. It can't be collected as long as you're scrounging benefits and protected by minimum wealth laws that protect from seizure BUT if you ever decided to start living, you get a job and you try to become financially stable it does become collectable.
So the soft German system can create people forever condemned to be on benefits because their debts make it so that there's no point to working.
No to mention the damages to smaller scale landlords who can be made bankrupt and lose their life savings to a single stealing tenant.
Early and quick evictions are more humanitarian in the long run.

We're in a worse position that her. Try it in Manchester. Homeless accommodation for 4 years, no pets, not allowed your own furniture, can be moved into another temporary house any day anywhere in Greater Manchester. Had to leave my previous home due to my Dad's heroin and drug addictions. I'd like to feel sorry for her but she's got it pretty good.

There's always somebody who has it worse. Just like you may be in a worse position than her, there is someone worse off than you. Should we just disregard everybody's circumstances until we get to the very worst cases? She is clearly having a hard time. That doesn't warrant any sympathy at all because you watched a 10 min snap shot of somebody else's life?

We ladies know it's pricey to get them done or maybe she did do them herself. She's giving ultimatums here. Take what you can get girl. Other people don't have choices. Me and my husband make over 100k a year with one child whose a teenager now . I personally always wanted to be financially stable before bringing a child into the world.

In light of the ongoing global economic crisis, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize investing in diverse sources of income that are not reliant on the government. This includes exploring opportunities in stocks, gold, silver, and digital currencies. Despite the challenging economic situation, it remains a favorable time to consider these investments.

As to the village myth(created by the infamous Hillary Clinton who had ONE child raised by nannies, no village there) what a load of crap. You clearly drank all the Kool-Ade. Like the majority of the people in the UK any family she has will neither be able nor want to help her in perpetuity. They have their own problems as MOST of us who live in the real word, do. Why no open your home to her? Wouldn't that be nice and you could virtue signal together until the money inevitably, runs out. @@samantha-jaynechapman2950

Or she shouldn't have got such a large dog. I share a one bed flat with my bf and my small chihuahua. I've never had issues getting accommodation with her as she's tiny and the flat provides enough space for her. Even landlords who initially don't want pets are usually OK with a small dog.

I agree, but you have to also understand it's not that easy for some people. In their deepest and darkest times, sometimes your pet was your only reason to keep on living in the first place. They can serve as a reminder of how fragile life is and they can also give you the strength you didn't know you had. These are just some of the reasons why it's not easy. When people say they love their pet as if he's their child, it's almost quite literal in the sense. It's not easy. We should praise her for giving her dog to her friends to look after for her. It's the best thing she could have done besides giving her up for adoption. It's not an easy choice. When she gets back on her feet she can take her back in.
