Why handoffs are NOT an infinite even near the ledge (Explanation for Toph and Vish)

  • I did not go into Nana pummels in this video. Nana does a random amount of pummels before throwing, so sometimes the handoff doesn't happen because Nana decides to pummel 3 times and the opponent mashes out. This video is just about how the regrab works once she throws!
    TLDR: When Nana has the opponent grabbed in center stage, her throws are random. When Nana has the opponent grabbed near a ledge (or on the edge of a platform), she will always throw the opponent towards that edge. You can consistently regrab her now guaranteed forward throw, but you have to move forward a bit in order to get the handoff, which means eventually you will run out of space. You can do this by either doing dash forward into grab or by walking forward the perfect amount and then grabbing (which is optimal, since it wastes as little space as possible).

    this was really insightful, i didn't know this at all. This means that getting grabbed completely at the edge is not the end of the world vs ics right?

      usually it still is. but sometimes you'll be at very low % and the ICs won't have enough stage left, and sometimes Nana will randomly decide to pummel too much and you can mash out.

    It's also inconsistent to go for such strict timings under stress like this. What isn't a strict timing that SluG could do though is add stuff after his blizzards and actually kill the opponent lmao

      Literally they never provide anything even half insightful to games anymore. Melee sucks to watch . Get some professional casters like real esports

      @@jungyo8417 Would you really want to be like every other e"""sport""" with awful, generic, astroturfed commentary that doesn't actually do any entertaining on top of being not very insightful? Melee's current commentator's are the best esports has to offer in terms of sheer watchability. They're all entertaining people who touch grass, unlike most other commentary teams for other games

      cookholds are technically a true infinite (disregarding nana pummel rng). you can also theoretically keep regrabbing nana fthrow right at the ledge by doing dash dance grab with Popo, but both of these are a good bit harder and are not (yet) being used by the top level ICs.
