It's not setbacks. That's just building a house. It's why you pay contractors so much money. They know the rules and deal with issues as they come along.
Try and cheap out and do things yourself and you'll run into issues like this.

I would wrap the treated 4x4 posts with a black aluminum siding to match the deck guardrails! I might think about making a seating area patio where the 10 feet of dirt removed from the wall of the water tanks enclosure . I would let the concrete guys the did the drive design a nice brick covering and patio area where the deck is. You could even do a sail like sun cover using the black deck guardrail material so the two areas match.

Make sure that you peal off the window stickers the longer they are on their the more difficult it is to take them off later.

Those stickers have to stay there until the final inspection, also, nothing some alcohol and googone can't remove.

Did anyone get a permit for the water tanks? This is one of those occasions that needs an engineer's opinion. Didn't you expect the block wall to fail? Did you have a municipal permit? Maybe it's got learning curve potential.

Honestly i see where the city is coming from, better be safe than sorry. In my opinion they are looking out for you, cus that is a lot of weight that wall has to bare. I massive rainstorm soil gets loose. Its the future man and thats your WATER supply, the most important thing a human needs.

Only 1 question. Why didn't the city make that determination during their drawn out process of reviewing plans, permits and inspections??

@@BackyardBanditsthe city already got their money. Either they put something in that wasn't permitted, or it was put in not per plan.
If the inspector came out there and told them they either needed to grade it per plan, or build it per a standard detail etc, there wasn't additional permit review fees ... This isnt about money.

Tennessee is the most relaxed when it comes to home building and much more. Education, Healthcare, construction, to name only a few. They are 45 or higher out of 50 states. No state income taxes means the roads suck beyond words, and they let you do as you wish to your property, hence the nice house next to the trailer with 500 cars in the yard. Tennessee is beautiful if you like mountains, but that's about it.
There's plenty of nanny states to live in if that's what you want.
When you reduce the soil height to meet the city’s requirements you should have the walls clad and painted to match the house. I don’t know how much it would cost to add a roof over the tanks - probably quite a bit - but it would look great and would protect your water infrastructure nicely. Love the house and site though. It looks amazing!
A lot of people add decking overtop. Make it a nice viewing/lounge area
and the roofing can collect even more rainwater for the tanks

Maybe the inspector is concerned that, if the back wall collapses, those large heavy tanks will roll down the hill and hit something / someone? Surprised there wasn't additional reinforced walls set perpendicular to the back wall, into the hill? Like anchors? Also - you may wish to super-chlorinate those tanks every so often to keep bacterial growth down inside them - especially if its hot there alot. Also wondering - do you have to worry about the tanks or the filtration equipment freezing? Just trying to help here...
Yes . One wall between the tanks would make it much stronger.

I think for the money they paid for that wall it shouldn't be cracking all over like that that soon. Maybe the wall itself should've been thicker, because there's a lotta weight pushing on it throughout THE WHOLE ENTIRE thing
@@minergate4066 The fill is higher than what is rated. Over by approx 5 ft. So to equalize this they raise the base thickness to the appropriate width and an approximation of the added height.

If one tank was drained them moved, then the water from the other tank could have been pumped into the empty tank. That way you would not have been completely without water.

Or on the worst case scenario, they could have managed to drain that water to Billys house, they've mentioned a couple of times he's probably going to use those tanks to get water for his house as well, since he's always running out of water.

I think adding an additional support in the middle top down to the base front, like a bolted in I-beam between the tanks would be a "piece of mind" beneficial structure to add. I'm an overkill guy, and the additional cost wouldn't be much. Congrats to the guy who won the truck!!

I’m imagining the reason for the city telling you to add that portion of the wall is for safety and it not being designed to adequately retain that soil. You’re lucky they didn’t make you tear it down completely and rebuild it properly.
The city isn't required to supply your house with municipal water.
Lesson learned.
Don't build anything without approved plans, especially when it has to do with structural elements.
You can't just build whatever you want - everything is engineered. Everything needs to be permitted. Everything needs to be inspected.

These engineers of the city usually have a pretty good idea about landslides and whatnot. They can reach out to rescue crews and all kinds of situations we do not think about. Accept the help. Ask them if you even can improve further. You do not want a land slide. I don't know why there is no concrete roof. That way the water will be way cooler. Now it may be prone to algae.
If it had a roof that would reinforce the wall and it wouldn't have to be strengthened

I thought the same thing ! Considering they poured the walls first then poured the floor for the tanks so if anything the floor is holding all the weight of the bottom of the wall and not the stupid curb ! Plus when you think of it with the weight of the tanks full of water on top of the concrete floor adds more weight to hold back the wall !
@T Nolan yeah it is stupidity at its finest. Engineering wise and structurally it isn't helping a damn thing whatsoever ever. If that wall wants to come down then it will. And now since they put in their video that the wall has a crack in it I bet the city comes out and says something about that as well. Some things you just shouldn't put in a video. Lol
It doesn't matter which government it is, federal, city, any of them. They are the biggest waste of money and resources. This should of been recognized months ago, not wait until everything has been installed. Every form of government is such a disappointment. Making you spend tens of thousands in landscaping on your shop, when it was literally a landfill prior, and the city did nothing about it before you purchased it.
It's on them though. Shoddy work. Doing things twice because the don't know what they are doing. Never checking codes.....and their brother is their contractor. This house should have been done months ago.

Look at the retaining wall they built with Retaining Wall Blocks. People told them already that it will fall because it was to high. They did not listen until it did fall. Then they go out and buy some cheap reinforcement grid and redo it. However, it still will fall again. Yes, that grid will help hold it longer, but it will fall because it is not done right.
