  • Vocal Coach Reacts To Eric Clapton | Tears In Heaven | Ken Tamplin
When Eric Clapton was 13 years old he got his first guitar. He quickly became bored with it however and didn’t end up picking it up again for another 2 years.
That didn’t change the fact that he ended up as one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
4 years after getting his first guitar, Eric was in his first band called the Roosters.
Clapton went on to join the bands the Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith before eventually going solo.
Clapton is the only musician to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 3 times for his time with the Yardbirds, Cream and individually.
In 1988 he became the first musician to have his own Fender Stratocaster signature model.
Eric has gone on to win 18 Grammy awards and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time.
Today I’ll be reacting to his classic “Tears In Heaven” written for the son he lost. Check out his performance and let me know what you thought.

This song is so hard to listen to for me. I tragically lost my son in 2016, and I chose this song at
His service. For a moment while my eyes were closed and crying, the room got very bright, and then
It was gone. I know what I believe and one day I will see my Shayne again. Thank you for spotlighting this one.

Clapton has such beautiful vibrato. Its like butter , so smooth. Its very breathy and subdued. This song is not a hard range but to have the feeling and technique that Clapton has is hard to duplicate. Any good singer can sing these notes but the delivery, style and passion is something that only Eric has.

Eric Clapton is one of the first names, which comes to mind when asked about a guitar player, he himself not being a spectacular virtuoso. May be his greatness lies not in technical skills, but in what he has done for the industry and other (greater) guitar players

I love this song too, it's so beautiful and sad, and I cried when I first read the story about his son.
To me, this is what music all about, no more or less: When people infuse the sound with their thoughts and emotions so much that a stranger far away can feel it when they hear it. The artists I love best are the ones that can do exactly that, and it's what I've always wanted to do.
    Thank you for sharing, Ken!

Knowing the story behind this song, makes it even more beautiful and touching. I believe when you write a song out of an influence from things related to God or to God himself in the deepest and most honest way you can(even if you're not even a Christian), it can give us unique feelings that we cannot find in any other songs related to anything else. I believe God doesn't waste any chance to make you feel how it would be if you could fully feel his presence, even if it's a small chance in a song you enjoy that had no intention to be labeled as a Christian song.

56 here, and new to you. So far I can relate to everything that you've posted.
Aren't we lucky we were raised around all the music that we know? Yes.
Anyhow, tough to one watch (because of Clapton's child.), not because of you, of course.
Thank you so much for your content! Oh, by the way, you were very tasteful by not commenting on Clapton's vocals here.

Clapton is such a great singer - the tone, the different textures, the pitch, the emotional content. He sure can belt and growl too on the album ‘from the cradle’ (as seen in Scorsese’s recently re-released ‘nothin but the blues’). There’s only a few people that can sing AND play that well. What a great and important messenger for the blues.

Brought me to tears actually. Never knew what this song was about! My niece is going through a tough time currently after a burning accident and I just came home from the hospital with her pictures in my head when she tried to walk.

This song is sad but also beautiful! I, too, remember when Eric's son died too. I'm glad that Eric gave his life to Christ and know that he will see his son again one day. God bless you too, man! Your video was awesome. Thank you for sharing your feelings with us. 😊👍

This is why I enjoy you, Ken. You bring more to the table than just a reaction. You bring knowledge (and I love to learn). There are a couple (audience-recorded) videos of Shinedown performing What a Shame in Madison, WI in 2019 that left me wanting to know more. What is the background of the song? How hard is it to sing a song that is that meaningful to the singer? How well did Brent do? I immediately thought of you, Ken. Finally, just a general Thank You for you and your channel.

First here!! And yes that's an amazing song, a musician friend said "you could probably play the guitar like Eric Clapton, but no one can sing like him...I guess it is true, if you had the talent of a hundred super talents in one body, worked your butt off practicing the guitar like a hundred hours a day, you probably could play like him, but no one could ever sing like him. Tears in heaven is possible if your hurt is so deep that only music could bring it out.
Hey Ken, bro could you do your version of this song?? Please!

Ohh but you can! Join Ken Tamplin's Vocal Academy to learn how to sing better than anyone else! ;)
jk..I know it takes a personal hurt and situation of the heart, like what Clapton went thru to get that kind of singing and song writing.

    Dear Ken,
it's always a pleasure watching your videos and I look forward to your new videos all the time. Your analysis, anecdotes are spot-on!! However, I always like it more when you have a critique about the vocals in the uploaded video. You can always have additional information about the history of the song, the band, the songwriting trivia, but please please please try to mention something about the vocal technique/tone/quality/shortcomings of the artist. I've recently seen some videos on your channel where the vocal critique is missing. Even for this particular video,I thought you're gonna talk about Eric's vocal style, texture, but that didn't happen at all. Please include that. That makes it more wholesome.
Thanks again for all the videos, you're godsent!!! 🙂

I think I might have got Ken all wrong. My first experience with Ken Tamplin was his 'How to sing like Freddie Mercury' video...all those years ago. I think I might have left a less than kind comment and decided this guy had nothing to offer. Fast forward to today. Either accidentally, or otherwise, I've seen a lot of Ken's videos on CZcams and, you know what, I'm now sure that I was wrong. If you ignore the videos designed to get views (and who can blame him for that!), and do a deep dive into his instructional stuff, then you'll have no choice but to come to the same conclusion as I; Ken Tamplin is the real deal! Ken, rock on dude and thank you for making so much of your wisdom freely available.
