The 2023 Veterans Administration Disability Pay Chart
What Is the VA Disability Pay Chart?
Having an application for service connection is only the first step in receiving compensation for a disability.
After the claims process, the VA must determine how much you receive in compensation each month.
The VA Disability Pay Chart Overview
The modern VA disability pay chart enables the agency to determine the amount of monthly benefits based on the degree of disability and the number of the veteran’s dependents.
As far as the VA is concerned, a dependent’s financial contribution is zero,
even if that spouse, child, or other dependent is working. VA disability benefits include free medical care, regardless of the degree of disability. Substantial VA back pay may be available as well.
VA disability benefits include free medical care, regardless of the degree of disability. Substantial VA back pay may be available as well.
Maximum VA disability benefits are not always easily obtained.
Veterans often need an experienced VA disability attorney to navigate the appeals process which enables them to fight for the deserved level of compensation or back pay to which the veteran is entitled.
Even if your claim appears straightforward, the road to maximum benefits may be long and bumpy.
The 2023 VA Disability Pay Chart
The VA rates disabilities in 10% increments, from 0% to 100%
If a disability is rated 0%, it means a veteran is technically service-connected but the condition is managed such that it does not disable the veteran in any way.
Thus, no compensation is available, although free medical care is provided.
There are three general pay rate categories: 10-20%, 30-60%, and 70-100%.
Different amounts are available depending on whether the veteran’s dependent is a minor child, an adult child in a school program, spouse, or parent.
To determine your rate, view the comprehensive table on the VA’s website,
    veteranappeal.com/what-is-the..."
At this disability level, these benefits are almost always income supplements.
    30%-60%
Veterans at the higher end of this category may qualify for TDIU (total disability due to individual unemployability) benefits. In a nutshell, these partially disabled veterans receive 100% disability financial benefits.
Disabled veterans qualify for TDIU if they have a single condition with a 60% rating or multiple conditions with a combined 70% rating (at least one condition must have a 40% rating), and they cannot maintain substantially gainful employment in an unsheltered environment. These veterans may also receive state unemployment benefits.
Substantially gainful employment means a job that pays above the poverty line. A sheltered environment is a family-owned, veteran-owned, or other such company that provides accommodations to a veteran that a normal business would not.
From a practical standpoint, these veterans can usually fulfill their daily obligations on good days. On bad days, they may not be able to leave the house. This up-and-down cycle merits additional compensation.
    70%-100%
Due to their severe lack of function, these veterans usually cannot work. At best, they can take a low-paying part-time job.
Additional aid and attendance benefits are available to spouses of veterans who are at least 30% disabled. These benefits are available for caregivers if the veteran is basically homebound. Specifically, the veteran cannot perform daily activities (dressing, eating, etc.), must stay in bed at least most of the day, or is functionally blind.
How does the VA determine the degree of disability?
Generally, a “compensation and pension,” or C&P doctor examines veterans and uses their symptoms to rate their disabilities.
This system is not perfect. As mentioned, some physical, mental, and other disabilities have outsized effects on some veterans. Additionally, many C&P doctors are not fully qualified to assess certain medical conditions. That’s especially true since, a few years ago, the VA started relying on contractors.
For these reasons, a VA disability attorney often partners with outside professionals, like independent doctors and vocational experts, to better determine a veteran’s degree of disability.

If a civilian gets hurt on the job, he/she goes to a doctor or hospital. The doctor sends a form to the state agency that manages workers compensation and the worker and the doctor get paid. On the other hand, if a veteran gets hurt while in the military, he/she has to prove that the injury happened. If there is no medical record of the injury, then the VA position is that there is no injury and no compensation. Why is there a double standard? Why is it that civilians don't have to prove anything but veterans do?

In my opinion this is partially correct. What most don’t realize is you can sustain injury in combat and still do what is required. The soldier must provide evidence that the injury occurred in combat. When I was in Vietnam in 1968 I was involved in an incident where the individual in front of me was hit by an RPG. He was half gone. I was really stunned however I could still function. The problem was there was several other people that had injuries of more substantial damage than me. Some of them survived and 4 or 5 died. 5:46 I helped evacuate the deceased individual. A couple of weeks later his family wrote and asked me how he died. All I could say was it happened so quickly that he never knew it. Of all the problems you can have in life I would never hope you would have to write that kind of a letter
The VA ain’t interested in theses stories and neither is the military. After all it never happened to them Afterwards I think about this but then again I am a fucking liar according to the VA. John Ray 5:46 5:46

I retired from the US Army after 30 years of service. I am also 90% disabled and drawing compensation from the VA. Applying for disability compensation is a lengthy slow process that is best done with your VA County Agency. The staff will help you with records searches, filling out the forms, and will submit it for you. If you kept your military health records, you have a lot of documentation that will support your claim. Good luck, you are applying for something you earned through your service.

There’s a huge gap between 90 and 100% for a reason. You have to be seriously injured or have a lot of disabilities to go from 90 to 100%. You can have three 50% ratings and a few 10% ratings and still be at 90%.

    • @cameronfirmpc2552
      @cameronfirmpc2552  Před 3 měsíci

Thank you for the insight. You are correct. The distinction between a 90% and 100% VA disability rating is substantial, reflecting the severity and cumulative impact of one's service-connected conditions. While multiple 50% and 10% ratings can culminate in a 90% rating, the leap to 100% requires an exceedingly high degree of impairment, often characterized by complete unemployability or the need for aid and attendance. The VA's stringent criteria underscore the profound challenges faced by those eligible for the full 100% rating, recognizing their profound sacrifices and lifelong limitations. This system aims to adequately compensate the most severely disabled veterans who have borne the heaviest burdens.

      @tattoojack1969 Před rokem +2

So you’ve been doing claims for 18 years, Great for you. Maybe you’re competent and dedicated to helping other Veterans. Not all Veteran Service Officers are. The VA service officers here where I live are less than worthless. The ones at the VFW wouldn’t touch my case because at 70% I risked “losing my rating” if I tried to go for 100%. The guy at the DAV took my case and had it so screwed up that it was denied almost as quickly as it was filed. Mr Cameron, whose firm this video is for, took my case and appealed it. He found numerous errors the VA made and inside of nine months had me at 100% at the SMC-S rate. He also got me back pay to the tune of about $39,000. That was my cut after he got 20%. Was it worth it ? Absolutely. You know what 20% of nothing is ? Cause that’s how much he would’ve been paid had we lost and I would’ve got the 80% of nothing and would’ve still been at 70%. He has another issue on appeal with the BVA that if we win will pay off substantially. He’ll get 20% of that as well and is welcome to it. Mr. Cameron is definitely a lawyer, and a good one. He’s also a Navy Veteran as well and I think I’d trust him and his crew more than I would a VSO.
