Damn, I was hoping they added the ability to use the credit towards TSA Precheck. My home airport doesn’t have CLEAR.
The CLEAR credit covering the whole cost now makes the Green card make a lot more sense for a lot of people!
Agreed I got this card about a month ago
Used the green card to cover my Clear membership it only covered $100 at first now it’s going to cover the entire membership next year for me.
The upgraded Clear credit makes this card a much more viable beginner travel card in my opinion. This hasn't been a card I've really considered before, but since I don't have a card with overlapping credits, this one may actually make sense. I'll probably just hold off until I want to apply for the Amex Platinum though and get that one instead. Thanks for the updates Ben!

Your explanation was very “clear”
Why is it that one of the best benefits that gets overlooked by everyone that reviews this card is the fact that you can earn 3x points on travel when you book a room and you don't have to do it thru the amex portal. You can get the 3x from third party sites, compared to the Platinum you will only get the 5x when booking from their portal, third party booking gives only 1x.
The exact reason I’ll get this card. The Amex portal (of any other travel portal) aren’t always the cheapest options for travel

This card is clutch if you live in NYC to take full advantage beside just traveling on flights. Using it on public transits, Ubers/lifts or even paying those tolls plus the abundance of restaurants.

Even with the new update I think it’s still a very niche card for city dwellers, I love the green card even before the update, it’s actually my 2nd-3rd must used credit card in my collection since I live in NYC I spend a lot on transit (subway,Uber/Lyft, toll, street parking and scooters and bikes, like last year I spent close to $10,300)

(it’s supposed to be a programmable credit card sounded unique)
Nice upgrade but honestly, the only reason I carried this card was for the 3x points for travel… aka… Airbnb!
But since I’m not staying in Airbnbs really anymore, this card will soon be cancelled.

That's cool. However, the CLEAR credit is already covered by my Platinum card. Although I travel extensively per year, the points I would earn would still not break even for the annual fee otherwise.

I want to get this. I like to stay at AirBnbs/Vrbos over hotels. I also like that it can be used for other modes of travel, tolls, parking etc. I wonder if I could earn 3x for vacation packages/tours? I’m making plans to go to an African safari next year and would love to earn points on that purchase. I know my platinum wouldn’t earn extra points on that. I could use my platinum for flights, green for other travel related expenses (for as long as Amex is accepted).
Amex cards seem like a good idea but unfortunately is not accepted where I live so I can only stick to Visa and Mastercard.
Was thinking of closing my green card. Maybe I won't now. I never found the credits helpful, especially having to pay 89 more for CLEAR. Now I might sign up for clear.

Is it possible to upgrade from gold to platinum at the same time as applying for a new platnuim to get two platinum bonuses?
No bonuses if upgrading. You can only get bonus for opening new account/card. Once you get a sign up bonus for a card, if you cancel then reapply for the new bonus, they won’t give it to you. This eliminates “churning” and makes Amex a stronger product. Try and pull a fast one on Amex, they’ll probably cancel your gold card and tell you to pound sand.

@@anasryadi8545 yes, we all do. It’s upgrade via opening a new card. Not product changing to a different card. Try it, see what happens.
You could absolutely get a bonus for upgrading if it’s advertised to you

Got the Amex green car 2 years ago and do not regret it. Its one of the most underrated cards out there.

From a pure travel MR earnings standpoint this is a great card. Even trouncing bigger brother Gold Card. Amex needs to update Gold Card to include points for “travel.” In addition to the existing 3X on airfare booked directly with airlines.

They should make it metal and a lot more people would get it just for that reason alone
