  • Friendly Review of the Best Carry-on Luggage 2018 Review. In this video, we provide an overview and test:
Travel Pro Max Lite 4 Review - amzn.to/2OLzJTM
Travel Pro FlightPath Review - bit.ly/2OOAz2n
Delsey Air Elite (Paris) Review - bit.ly/2MVc6HT
Samsonite Aspire XLite Review - amzn.to/2Bn76dZ
(Make sure to look for good sales)
There is a lot of conflicting information out there on the different websites for the dimensions of the suitcases. We wanted swivel wheels as well as the biggest carry-on that the airlines would allow. For each of the carryon suite cases, we examine the size, pockets, webbing, and handle.
Almost all airlines in 2018 state that the maximum carry-on suitcase dimensions are 9" x 14" x 22". Two of these options actually measure larger, but we took them to the airport and tried them in the American Airlines, Allegiant Air, and United Airlines sizer bins to test them out.

I love my Eddie Bauer. It has two wheels, it is hard in the back, soft in the front and has a lifetime warranty. Cobblestones are no problem with this bag. It's been through over 40 flights with me and I have checked it. That's the larger one. I also have a carry on size, exactly the same. Its amazing! They are not sleek looking but they are made of nylon versus polyester which is the real deal when it comes to durability. The compartments are great, handles are nice and comfy, it actually glides along in the airport on two wheels and the front stand which I found fascinating.

Great review ! Love that you actually used the sizing bins at the airport to show how they fit. Going on my first flight ever to Las Vegas shortly and have measured and measured carry on bags worrying that they may be a 1/4 inch to big, but after watching your review I feel better now and less stressed about it.

Thanks for the review. Just so people aren't surprised when they travel within Europe, the allowable carry-on is much smaller (check out the 19" bags or under-seat options), so while you can get there on American they will make you check your bag once you begin within Europe. Easy jet and Ryan Air have very strict carry-on rules.

This is a very good review. The whole size thing is confusing. I have been traveling 15 years with a old Tumi Tech that is 17 inches wide (3 over paper specs) but other wise complies - and I cant ever remember being bin tested - nor not fitting in an overhead (maybe just fit). I just dont see agents bin testing people - unless it looks ridiculous. That said I wanted to be accurate with a new bag and bought the Travelpro Crew Expert Global. It 100% complies with paper specs on size for domestic and most global airlines, and is built like a tank, but man it is a small bag! There is also a "Domestic Max" version of the crew expert that on paper is an inch larger in every dimension than the paper specs.... but says it has been "bin" tested on domestic airlines. Basically what I read is that the domestic bins have about an inch play (larger) over the paper specs of 22x14x9 = 23x15x10.

Thanks for your reviews. I actually use your video as a set of guidelines to keep in mind when it comes time to purchase a new carry on spinner bag particularly when it comes to dimensions. Based on your reviews and experience, it seems rather difficult to meet the dimensions limit by airlines of 22x14x9 because realistically, luggage manufacturers tend to add a bit beyond these dimensions, especially due to the added height from the wheels and/or top handle. I've physically gone to stores many times with a measuring tape and it is almost impossible to find a carry on that does not "cheat" a little by being slightly bigger (unless one goes for the tiny under-the-seat carry on bag option. No thanks!). However, the extra half inch or so in any given dimension appears to be forgivable and acceptable when inserted into the airlines' sizer bins, as long as the bag isn't packed too much preventing the fabric or hard shell to bend and conform to the metal sizer bin

I want a review that will be for the most restrictive airline ie Ryan air. Not only do I need to figure out size issues, weight become very important as well since they now make you weigh your luggage andcnnit needs to be less thsn 10 kilos, and make you pay to take your case well. I love that you try each of your cases in the airlines test luggage cages. then lets get real and discuss price and quality build. We all know that the cases can be a little bit bigger than the size they specify. So trsvel pro maxi light 5 will be a very attractive possiblity.

My opinion--if you are only allowed 10 kilos/22lbs and are not checking a bag, then you will have to be a very minimal packer and will need a very basic bag that does not eat up weight with wheels, heavy hardware, etc.
Look for something like a 38L backpack that weighs less than 2lbs. Happy travels.

I think I’m a suitcase hoarder! But I have slightly different requirements than you ... I want 2 wheels. The cobblestones in Europe don’t seem to like spinners. I tried a spinner once ... luckily it was a cruise so I wasn’t carting it around a lot ... but it didn’t like traveling in a straight line, it kept trying to cut in front of me and trip me up! Anyway, I have 3 cases that I use depending on length & purpose of the trip. I love my small (13”?) TravelOn for any trip a week or less. (I love it so much, I have it in 4 colors!). For a little longer trip I have the 18” TravelOn ... it doesn’t hold that much more because it’s very tapered on the top, but it’s good for that little bit extra (souvenirs?). Then, for my 4-6 week trips (there’s this rockstar I “chase” around the world) I have the Euro TravelPro ... 20” and very light, to go with the European weight restrictions. After having my luggage “lost” on one trip, carry on is the safest way to go. And I couldn’t live without packing cubes!

Thanks - À chacun son gout I guess, I like the Away smaller carry in because it is non-expandable and forces me to pack lighter. No longer a fan of my old AT canvas bag. But this was a great review overall.

For international travel one should consider weight. Many airlines have weight restriction that are strictly enforced.

Based on the onebag sub on Reddit, airlines in Asia typically do weigh carry ons, but in Europe they do it once in awhile, but not often so it's a risk there.

@@JG-wb1ix I’m flying Bangkok to Chiangmai on Thai airways, after arriving in Bangkok on a separate ticket on Singapore airlines From what I’ve read, Thai airlines isn’t as strict as Thai Air Asia, which weighs everything. I have 5 hours at Bangkok airport, so if the excess baggage charges are too high (they should be 60 baht per kilo), I’ll ship the two checked pieces of luggage and make sure that the carry on is no more than 7 kilos by taking things out and stuffing it in pockets on my pants, coats and fishing vest.

It’s incredibly annoying that there is not a standard size for All Airlines. Perhaps one size for discount airlines and one size for the “regular” priced Airlines. Please note; what fits on North American Airlines May NOT fit on European or British Airlines, you should check each Airlines websites to be sure.

Any soft sided spinner bag I have ever used tips forward when packed. I put the heaviest items so they sit in the bottom back corner of the bag when it is upright to try to counter balance my tablet that is packed in the front exterior pocket, but this does not work. The front two wheels are basically in the middle of the bag once it's packed fully causing the bag to tip forward. Manufacturers need to figure out way to better balance a PACKED bag.
I hang my backpack on the pack side of bag to counter weight it but not convenient. Any one have a better solution?

I'm at the airport and the lady infront of me at Starbucks, had a carryon that I could not see the brand, but I dont think is one that you reviewed and I will be looking for it in the stores-....lol!
I was noticing the wheels are kind of on the side of the bag and so it allows for the bottom to be lower!
Its hard to explain but while Im sure it still the 22-23 "legal" inches, with the wheels not taking up all the space at the bottom of the bag.., now the actual bag can be bigger and have more space for stuff!!

Costco sometimes sells a $29.99 convertible carry on. The top part is collapsible , to fit under the seat. When expending it, it's a full carry on. I wish its 4 wheels instead of only 2.

Bear in mind this is mostly for US travel, on US airlines. If travelling through overseas destinations (Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand) on connecting flights, there will most likely be weight restrictions as well as size, so always google your flight itinerary for each airline carry on limit - eg, some will have a weight restriction of 7kg (or 15.4 lb), of which you may find your carry on suitcase may be half that, Uh Oh! Also explore travel bags in these cases, which are mostly only around 1kg (or 2.2 lb).
