  • www.autobytel.com/toyota/avalo... The 2014 Toyota Avalon is a big, roomy, fuel efficient car with some nice luxury amenities. The Avalon has been on sale in the U.S. for almost 20 years and it has never been a very stylish car. Well that all changed with the most recent update last year. Now the Avalon has a very sleek and aerodynamic look that will set the tone for other Toyota vehicles as evident with the new Corolla.
    The 2014 Toyota Avalon is a full-sized family car that is priced between $31,340 - $39,650 with the model tested here coming in at $33,195. The Avalon is a very light-weight vehicle in the class of portly large sedans. That helps with not only fuel economy but also with performance. The 3.5 liter V-6 engine makes 268 horsepower and 248 lb-ft. or torque. Fuel economy is 21 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.
    Being a full-sized car, the Avalon has a ton of interior space especially for the rear passengers. The driver's seat is wrapped in leather with 8-way adjustable controls. Comfort is certainly not a problem in the Avalon. The Intelligent Touch Center Console controls the stereo and climate controls. The only downside is the small touchscreen. Ergonomically the control and features are easy to find.

      That's kind of what I want when it comes down to choosing a vehicle. I've had enough with the salesperson spewing the script off of the window sticker; it does nothing but waste my time. I want a "next door neighbor" type of person to break it down to me with the pertinent information of the pros and cons of a particular car - in this case, the Avalon versus the Camry. I still don't know which one will prevail, but I have a less muddy picture, thanks to watching this video review.

    Thank you for mentioning the 'squeaking' and the 'creaking' on interior panels of the late Toyota models. I get rid of my 2010 Venza AWD V6 only 24 months after I purchased it because of the 'creaking and squeaking' noises coming from steering column, dash panels, and center arm-rest bin! I am a life time Toyota owner and bought many Toyotas... Inferior workmanship and cheap materials inside the Venza left me with bitter taste in my mouth and WILL NOT buy another Toyota until they wake up and makes are that aren't squeaks like a Yugo!

    I thought these were pretty ugly with the big billy bass front grill. Bought a 2014 Lexus ES350 instead, thought it looked a lot nicer, nicer interior/more features as well. I thought the ES350 rides decent, firmer than your traditional Lincoln or Cadillac, but no float/bobbing sort of thing, handles a hell of a lot better than those old boats or older Avalons that I've driven.

    I've got a 2003 Avalon Xls and it's wonderful. It's very luxurious (well about as luxurious as a 2003 gets), it's one of the smoothest riding cars I've owned, it has stunning acceleration and handles incredibly. I was thinking about getting a new Avalon but after watching this I feel an Audi A4 may be a better sedan in this day and age. I don't have kids so I don't need the space.

    I test drove this car and the suspension tuning also turned me off. The headroom and rear seat legroom were also lacking for taller drivers and passengers. This all adds up to one confusing Avalon. An Avalon is supposed to plush, supple and roomy.

    • @yippie6862
      @yippie6862 Před 10 lety +2

      Try to sit in the back of one if you haven't. The last generation Avalon had much more rear leg room than this. I know because my friend owns one. The new one really feels not much different than a mid sized Camry. In fact I feel like I had more room in the back of a VW Passat. It is disappointing for such a large car. I am 6'3 and with the seat set in front to where I feel comfortable and then try sitting behind myself. I can do this with the VW and older generation Avalon but my knees hit the front of this new Avalon. The backs of the seats are hard plastic as well. The old Avalon rear seats also reclined. My point is if I can sit behind myself then I know most people will be comfortable behind me. Also, the Avalon is lacking in headroom. Regular sized people won't have this problem I know but plenty of people are over 6'2 these days. One more thing, Camry's rear leg room is 38.9 in. and the Avalon is 39.2 in. Not much of a difference. Plus Camry actually has more front and rear headroom. Like I said disappointing for what is supposed to be a large car.

    @canddmeyer Před 10 lety +1

    I must also add that the cup holders are useless for any cups with a handle, and I have more than a few of those, available at most gas stations and amusement parks everywhere. A simple engineering idea totally overlooked by whoever gave final approval to the poor cup holder design. The Camry, Corolla, and Yaris all have more useful cup holders. I harp on this because I use it, a lot.

  • @TheSaikou96
    @TheSaikou96 Před 10 lety

    northstar15 I agree but the a4 doesn't compete with the Avalon in terms of size. The a4 if I recall correct me if I'm wrong is a compact car. The Avalon is a full size sedan. In terms of price point of course I'd rather take an a4 but the Avalon is for that family that just has full grown kids and just need that extra space. I wouldn't ever buy an Avalon or a Toyota for that matter unless it's a supra or ae86

    • @YodaWasSith
      @YodaWasSith Před 9 lety

      The only time fake chrome has been used well is in the '14 Impala. They laid blue green-ish lights under the chrome and they act as ambient lighting. A very subtle touch to go a long way in improving the aesthetic appeal to the inside of a vehicle. I also loved the way it looked in the Camaros.

    plastic creaks

    Do NOT listen about the reviewer's opinion on the:
    suspension. I find after driving german cars for a decade, this avalon is the only suspension I can stand from JPN auto makers.

      Mario Losberg wait, you said Insignia, isn't that means you don't live in US? how do you know Insignia is better than Avalon and the quality of the car? because all of the reviews and my personal test drive proves otherwise.

      Mario Losberg Lets say it's in the Lexus territory, it's nothing like you would find in Avensis.

      Mario Losberg In Europe Opel is considered as one of the cheepest car vendors... Insignia is considered as quite faulty model. To bad they don't sell avalon in EU:/
