  • Highlight of this clip: ACS-64 642 on train 129. Also seen are a few Keystone trains, northbound Crescent, and southbound Silver Star. Additionally ACS-64 632 test extra is seen heading south to WAS, and an interesting capture of an Acela Express powerhead wheelslip can be viewed. Enjoy =)

    3 cafe coaches?!?!?!?!

    • @pblount340
      @pblount340 Před 5 lety

      Jilian Loria those cars aren’t only cafe coaches. They are used on higher speed trains such as the Acela Express or longer lines that do 5 hour routes. These cars are put on the faster trains as they are more aerodynamic. That means that the train shown in that particular clip was probably an express train that went from like New York to Boston as that is a common line on the NE passage.

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer  Před 5 lety +5

      If you read the description, you'll understand that that train was the TEST TRAIN. It was not in passenger service. The 3 cafe cars are only there to serve as a load behind the testing locomotive. Regular coaches are not used for test trains since there are no spares.

    Lovely compilation!!!
    Please answer a few queries that popped up in my mind after viewing this compilation.
    1) At 2:15, the train is being pushed by the locomotive, which I find really weird. I am sure the view presented to the driver or locomotive pilot (that is what we call them in India) is really poor as compared to the locomotive. I doubt weather weather all the controls and features available in the locomotive cab are available in leading coach used for driving when the locomotive is pushing.
    2) The locomotive at 2:15 had a driving cab at either end, so why not detach is from the rear and couple it at the front in the driving direction?? The pushing arrangement is okay the locomotive hasn't got a driving cab at both ends!!

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer  Před 7 lety +4

      1) The view from the ca car is perfectly fine. All controls found on the locomotive can be found on the cab car.
      2) The way service is run here, it is too time consuming to detach the locomotive and run it around to the other side of the train. When the Keystone trains reverse direction at Philadelphia, it is much faster to just recrew the train and leave the station. Running the locomotive around to the other end would take at least 25 to 30 minutes, while simply moving the crew from the locomotive to the cab car takes only 5 minutes.
