  • Welcome back to Princeton Junction on 6/10/15. I am pleased to be able to offer you guys improved video from this location, using my iPhone 6 to record in 1080p & 60 FPS. Today, we catch plenty of Amtrak trains between the hours of 9:50 AM to 1:00 PM and 6:10 PM to 8:10 PM, most of them powered by ACS-64 locomotives, as well as the ACS-64 642 Veterans Unit Test Extra. Enjoy the 125 MPH action =)
More specific breakdown coming never... lol

    Awesome video!
I remember back in the mid 70's, this train station's platform was so small, trains had to stop, unload 2 cars, then move up, unload 2 more, until it was done. Back then, there was only Trenton & Princeton Jct stops, near here. Trains from NY were jammed. I remember trying to find my daddy in a HUGE sea of men in suits! LOL!

The Acela is capable of 180 MPH but is restricted to 150 MPH due to the track condition. BUT, it can only do 150MPH for a short distance between Boston and NY City. The rest of the time it's restricted to 125 MPH because of the track conditions.

Through Princeton junction, the Acela can reach up to 135 mph on this section. Man I don’t get why everyone gets butthurt at seeing American trains only going at 125 mph Acela can do 150mph now the new ones can do 185mph but you do have to realize STEAM engines used to use the northeast corridor so it’s very old with a lot of curves so there’s not too much speeding you can do and there’s not enough room to build more tracks since you are going through very very busy places of the US like major cities even the capital

The TurboTrain and the Metroliner multiple units also ran at the same ranges during tests back in the late 60s, just before the SJ Rc (the basis of the AEM-7) was even a thing.

    Pretty good....considering they're Amtraks....and electrically powered...unlike most Amtraks, otherwise.
Now if only we had these types of trains much more widespread thruout the U.S., operating at these speeds to be mostly on time (unlike many Amtraks), we might be able to say we have at least somewhat of a respectable high-speed train network. Yeh, if only.

There's a reason the title of this video does not include "NJ Transit" in it. The focus is Amtrak only; if you want to see ALP-46s, then I have plenty of videos that are labeled in a way that indicates that NJT is a focus in the video as well.

The Acelas are the fastest things on rail in America right now, but that's still nothing compared to some of the European and Far East high-speed rail lines... Still, with the lines in the latter two regions of the world, these trains all run on dedicated tracks and overhead power distribution with no other type of train traffic, and absolutely no intersecting with roads whatsoever...
