I really look forward to all your videos. Why? I feel they are simple and honest.
The Route 66 ride kept me glued. I have watched them over and over.
Your reviews and riding of the Low Rider, the Pan America and the Africa twin were thorough.
But the basic Iron 883 made you smile on that Wisconsin afternoon. It looks like a beautiful place.
If you can do it full time, and you want to, that's great. I feel your videos and content are outstanding.
Love that Iron 883.
That means a lot to me, Don. Even more that you’ve stuck with me here through these last few years.
First time you ever popped up on my feed and in the first minute, I see you're running, literally, the same setup as I do (DR-05 and GoPros) so I stuck around to watch. And I also ride a Sportster - 1200 Custom - 2008. Bought it used at Ukes HD (in Kenosha) when I lived in Chicago. Anyway, nice video. Going to check out your other videos.
I know it’s considered older tech now and there are easier ways to manage audio on the bike, but I love separate audio with the DR-05. I love the clap and the post production flexibility. It only lets me down when I make a mistake.
Sportys are so fun, man. Thanks for watching this video and I hope you enjoyed others you watched.
Going full time would be the dream, I just know you can do it too! Really liked this video and selfishly sat here hoping you do make more content because I enjoy the sh1t out of your videos 😂
Thanks, bro! I like your brand of selfishness 😂
@@GreatEgret just entertain me already!!!🤣
Quality to me Joe! Happy bday in advance!! Thanks for sharing the ride and wow on the drone!! As a suggestion, I always wanted you to do a video on seeing what you would do if you were to paint a new gas tank for the Sportster!!
Thanks dude! Should be a great birthday. I’ll be in an adventure with the Iron.
I think someday, I’ll buy a really inexpensive Sporty and notify it in a way I never have before. Including painting the tank.
Been there brother. I have some spots that make the best sunset photos of my bikes. I will drive and set up the bike for the sun setting behind the bike just so.
LOL. People think I am broke down and stop to offer assistance. I explain I am looking for just the right moment for a photo shot. Sometimes I have to sit for several minutes waiting for sun position, a cloud to move, etc. Love it!
I love that. Trying to get the perfect shot. One of life’s best tests of patience. What a wonderful experience.
Sporty life is the good life!
Truer words have rarely been spoken.
I really enjoy and appreciate this type of video, I like the unscripted motoviog videos, its fun to watch
I like making them. They’re so easy to edit and even easier to shoot.
Happy birthday in advance 🎉 honestly there is something attractive in your videos that I can not describe 🤷🏽♂️ it is just like home made cookies 🍪 they are not a Michelin star 🌟cookies but we all love them . Keep it up bro and may all your dreams come true.
Dudes, that’s one of the best compliments I’ve received for my videos! Now I’m hungry and I’m going to eat some cookies. Ride safe, my friend!
Same here, haven't done a vlog in awhile, also going to get back into it, life is funny sometimes...previously owned a 2017 iron 883 stg 1, just traded for a XL1200 C , also own a HD Road King standard. Lots of vloggers come and go, tough to be consistent with all life presents.
How do you like the the RK? Bake in 2017 when the new M8 Road King Special came out, that was my dream bike. My tastes have changed, but at some point I’d like to go on an adventure with a bike like that.
Great bike for road trip , even 2 up, wife rides with me, mostly use for that and some friends lunch rides, etc. we use the Sena for talking, waze, xm radio, no need for fairing, ride is so comfortable, cruise control is such a pleasure. I like the fact you can see looking down the open road. I use the sporty for local stuff, work, etc., been to Tx, Tenn, Ark, Fl. Ms. on the RK. @@GreatEgret
Happy Birthday Joe. :D
Thanks, Fran!!!
Definitely a beautiful area to ride. I've been thinking about doing a video of riding on great river road from Dubuque to McGregor. I know that you know how beautiful that ride is. I just think my 33 subscribers 😂 deserve something better than a bunch of 15 second shorts. Anyway great to see you back, and Happy birthday my friend!
Man, that’s such a beautiful ride! Especially in autumn. Let me know when you’re thinking of doing it. I’d ride with you. Thanks for the birthday wishes!
I enjoy these type videos from you and you have my dream sportster.
Thanks! Man, I enjoy making these type of videos most. It’s a damn fine Sporty!
Man I need a drone. Getting drone footage of the Arkansas Grand Canyon would be so cool
Wonderful video! I have spent a lot of time in WI as a trucker and it is a beautiful state. You have the heart of an artist. I'm glad I subscribed!
Thanks for subscribing! I love this state. So many great places to ride!
love your channel man, have wanted to get an iron myself for quite a while. Definitely helping me make the choice to grab one!
Thanks, man! Means a lot to me. A lot of riders were upset that H-D discontinued the Iron, but the truth is there at a TON of used ones on the market for cheap. In fact all used Harleys have really dropped in price. There’s just a bunch on the market now and that’s good for buyers. Not so much for sellers.
You won't regret it.
With all the fancy bikes out there, all the Ducatis, all the great expensive bikes, and believe me I would like to have the all, the Iron 883 has character and visceral feeling when you ride it, that is very very hard to match, I found some of the old Guzzi to be similar, this is just a very special bike for those that enjoy the moment by moment human, machine experience of cruising in peace
That’s it! Exactly this. You captured here, succinctly, exactly what I’ve been trying to say for five years and over countless videos. Visceral is the perfect one-word description for the Iron 883. You can show me a million dynos and countless spec sheets why so many other bikes are better, but the Iron just has “It”. That feeling. Thanks for taking the time to leave such a great comment!
Ain't technically, yep, but it's fun. Rode my 23 CVO yesterday and messed with technology that didn't work right most of the ride. Simple is best. So glad I have my Iron 883 to have fun on. Keep up "simple." Best videos.
I’ve had bikes with a ton of technology. I like it when I need it, but most of the time it’s just a distraction.
I love making videos like this. Super easy to shoot and edit.
@@GreatEgret it's too much, I'm about to ditch the carplay
I’m just up north of you… I’d love to get out and ride that area with you!
Let’s ride!
I might start doing weekly or biweekly rides.

5:20 I made it this far 😂😂😂
At least one of you did 😂
I watch because of you, your personality shows through all the videos.
I would love to hear more about your process (not the technical details). I have so much footage and amazing trips, yet somehow I fail to find a story that I want to tell.
What is that audio recorder you put on? I think I had one of those for recording lectures about 10 years ago.
That’s the DR-05. The favorite PCM recorder of many motovlogging CZcamsrs. I like having the flexibility of recording and editing my audio separate from the GoPro footage.
I wrote a voiceover script about a year ago. For the video, I used a ton of footage from when I started CZcams and really didn’t know what I was doing. Most the footage had me on the bike because I thought I needed to do only motovlogs to be successful on CZcams. For the video, I needed footage of me around my bike with my helmet off. Problem was, it was the middle of winter, so I used all this old footage of me preparing to record on the bike. That video is now my second most popular video on CZcams. I created a story around the footage.
I bet you could do the same. Your path to motorcycling and your emotions and experiences on and off the bike since you started riding would make a great story to tell on video.
Storytelling is the second most important thing on CZcams. I could write a thesis on storytelling, but I find starting simple with having four parts: beginning, middle and an ending. Then add a plot twist in the middle, usually between the middle and ending. This should be something unique and unexpected. If you were to create a story about your path to motorcycling, your plot twist could be your wife finding her version of what you found in motorcycling and how it helped her understand why motorcycling is such a benefit for you. Your ending could be left a bit open. Something like you’re excited about where your future riding experiences will take you emotionally and physically.
Oh and if you were wondering what the most important thing on CZcams is, it’s knowing your audience. I got lucky, what I enjoy creating the most is in the wheelhouse of my audience.
(This comment has elements of storytelling in it)
an invite??? should I bring my bike or can I ride Rocinatne again ?!?! hahaha... Those road look like butter. I need to record again but the process is so time consuming as you say. stay safe buddy!
Come in Spring. I’ll have recovered financially from recent life events in a few months and I’ll have the sporty and another cruiser I’ll buy this winter. No joke!
Hey man, I don't know if you're self-employed, but I'm coming up on 1 year of being in business for myself on Oct 1. If you need to market products, and they're decent products, go ahead and do it. Most of us know how tough it is to survive out here. Make as much as you can.
As for feedback on your videos- I like this type of video where you're riding and just talking. I really liked the cross-country trip you made a few years back. It inspired me to do the same.
Have a goodun and good luck.
Thanks, man! I’m in the process of being full time self employed. I’ll likely cut the W2 cord fully sometime in the next three months. I’ll be honest, it’s both scary and empowering at the same time. Any advice on how to go about it is greatly welcomed and appreciated.
I took your feedback and ran with it. As long as the weather is good, I’ll have a video like this each week in the middle of the week. Likely every Tuesday. It’ll compliment the more produced videos that land on the weekend.
@@GreatEgret Good deal and good luck. I don't really have any advice that you don't already know, but here's some things I've learned and try to remember.
A good tax guy familiar with quickbooks was really helpful in the beginning.
Price isn't the main reason clients hire me. Timeliness and quality of work are.
If I can envision it in my mind, I can make it happen.
I may succeed or I may fail, but I won't quit, or feel sorry for myself, puss out or make excuses for myself.
@MyDyerMaker damn good advice, man. Thanks!
Good to see you back in the saddle again Joe.
Some thoughts from an older guy/rider, I know the younger generations would be different in their habits. I have a few interest that I follow so my views get broken into several different segments, I’m not only into bikes. I know weird. 😂 Camping, bushcraft, DIY projects, culinary, knives, axes, firearms… I know YT is trying to kill that off, and all of the gear that go into those areas, along with motorcycling
I’d never look at YT as a money maker in itself. Unless you’re an 8 year old gamer or gorgeous woman who can get people to view your entire video in the hundreds of thousands, per video. Which kinda makes a content creator like a TV station in the old days, generating enough revenue off of YT through the ads or people that pay for YT premium (like myself) who watch the videos clear through, thus giving YT income to pay creators.
The revenue would come from sponsorships (selling our souls), or selling merchandise… something a person/company produces, or through a paid subscription site like Patreon.
I used to put up culinary content in the 2000’s, (on a different YT channel)and have been a heavy content consumer since those days, I don’t follow creators that follow the YT algorithm. It’s too commercial. I burn out on those content creators and kinda tune them out. It’s like super hero movie fatigue from the over saturation. My preferred video schedule from a channel is one to three videos a week and maybe a couple of shorts. If the videos are longer run times, in the 12-20 minute, or more then is especially true. I routinely watch content that is in the 15 minute or more range. But I pick and choose that content. Take MADTV for instance. I will watch an hour long video from Dave, maybe even several videos in an “arc”. Now that Dave is retired and seems to be intent on building what was already a large motorcycle channel into a revenue stream with an on team editor/photographer, and regular cast members, I pare his content down more. I tend to only watch content on the bikes or rides that really interest me. Luckily he mostly hits it on the head. I haven’t watched a Matt Laidlaw video in a long time. I’m just not into watching videos on $50K bikes with voice over dubbing, and some of his cast members are kinda arrogant. Just being honest.
I used to subscribe to a few creators on Patreon but completely stopped that when I retired last October. Only one of those guys stayed in touch with me through the YT comment section and email and that was BK Low at FXDLS Brooklyn. So he earned my retirement dollars as the only guy I support on Patreon with that reduced retirement income.
Long way of saying, just be yourself, you’re a good guy Joe! Follow whatever path gives you satisfaction and the rest will fall into place. 10k is a good number of subs to leap into the next level.
This is one of the most thoughtful posts I think I’ve ever received.
I’ve partnered with a few companies that I respect. In 2019, a salesperson at a Harley dealership offered a “discount” on a Softail slim if I made some videos for them. I’m not good at the whole partnership thing or creating ads for companies and the discount on the slim was just a thinly veiled way to make a sale on a demo bike.
I remember when John Maxwell was still creating content, he did this ad for a mobile video game. It just felt so out of place. I remember thinking I won’t ever do that. About six months ago, a similar company reached out me. For all I know it could be the same one JM worked with. No disrespect to JM, but I can’t do that. There needs to be a value added purpose for everything in every one of my videos.
I had Patreon until early 2020, but I shut it down because I wasn’t providing value to the 35 or patrons I had. When the time is right and I feel I can provide enough value, I’ll likely open up another Patreon.
Thanks for watching all my videos and being a big part of the community in the comments here. I’ve really enjoy having your insights and opinions on here.
@@GreatEgret Thanks Joe. Everything seems to be a slippery slope these days. maybe it always has been. lol
You've garnered a lot of experience on YT, and life in general. You have a respectful way of presenting those experiences.
I'm originally from Illinois. Next time I ride that way, I'll give you a shout and see if we can work out a ride.
@@pinkiewerewolf man, anytime you’re near me, I’m up for a ride!
@@GreatEgret That would be most awesome!
Man, once I figured out how much better that bike performs at 3500 and above RPM, I have been less worried about revving the piss out of it (for a Harley). With that TBR Comp S exhaust, it runs even better and smoother in the higher RPMs. Also, keeping my bike in the higher RPMs, I got 57 miles per gallon at last fill up. :D
Third gear is the fun gear :D But I did the whole tail of the Dragon in second gear.
Also, I work 50 hours a week, so I can usually swing one video a week. I WAS ahead by three + weeks at one time, but thanks to Go Pro messing up my RMA and it taking almost a month to get it sent off and replaced, and lost my buffer.
Man, I would love to get to 1K subs and get my view hours up so I am at least eligible to start making money. Lol
Aaaaaand, I have that exact same riding shirt. Scorpion Exo Covert?
Third gear is 100% the best gear. While you see me just “cruising” in this video, and they are great for that, they are so much more when you figure out what you said here.
Scorpion Covert Motoflannel. It’s my second one and I’m due for a third one soon because this one is three years old and showing some wear.
Keep creating man. I’ve seen great content from you and you’ll get to 1K soon! It’s not easy, though, but learn from every video and turn each success, no matter how small, into a motivator to reach 1K.
@@GreatEgret If only I had an extra 10 hours in the week I could do JUST video stuff. Lol
