- I popped down to Cornwall to film the Zhiyun Crane M2 Review -The BEST Gimbal for Sony ZV1?
Whilst I love the Sony ZV1, the stabilisation on the camera isn't the best, so I've been on the hunt for the best gimbal and I think the Crane M2 is up there with the best. Build quality is great, has great app support and produces some great shots which is the most important thing!

great video! I got my ZV-1 last Friday and just waiting for the crane M2 to arrive!! Very excited to get it after watching your video 👍🏽
Any one who has a Samsung phone will not be able to use the Sony zv1. It does not connect to the camera therefore you will not be able to use any of the function buttons only can use the tilt joystick. You will need to purchase a sony to zhiyun cable which is hard to come by and cost over £20.
You need to connect with zhiyun app from you phone it does not work with Samsung phones. You can purchase a zhiyun to sony cable from amazon for around £25. This will work, (amzone sells the original cable) do not buy the arterfical they are not compatible. Then you need go to settings and make few adjustments. It will work.
Or just like me you can also purchase the sony grip which you can attach to the crane gives extra extension but still you would look like a twat, just like me.

I was also aiming for the M2 for the ZV-1, but then I got a new Feyiu G2 Plus in a bundle with the ZV-1 for 800 bucks total, including tax. The G2 Plus is a little bit larger and heavier, but still very doable. Thanks for the review!
This is exactly the video I needed to see. we have been using gimbals for cell phones with great success but I just upgraded to the Sony ZV1 and am now looking for a Gimbal for it. I love how powerful it is but yet compact. Thanks for this video!!

I want to get more into videography as I’m a college student that’s studying multimedia photojournalism which includes being able to create videos and video editing. I currently have a DSLR from Nikon that I use for my photography, but this camera and this gimbal after watching your reviews of them seem to be my intro video camera. I also want to use it for vlogging at Disney World for my 21st birthday in the summer of 2022. Ive always wanted to start a CZcams channel with vlogging especially when traveling. Also just to work more on my multimedia video and photography skills. I’ve got some experience with video making and editing, but this I feel will take it to the next level. I also plan on using this camera to create some cinematic looking music video as I’m an aspiring musician that will finally have the money to afford some budgeted music recording equipment. Overall, you’ve got me sold into this camera and gimbal for the future!

Quick question. When my Sony zv1 ( thanks love it, bought from watching your you tubes) the function sunny weather on the monitor becomes disabled. Any ideas? can t see the monitor outdoors. THANKS
You're timing couldn't be better. I have a DJI Ronin SC for my Sony A7iii and bought the ZV1 for more run and gun and b-roll work. I Googled "best gimbal for Sony ZV1" and up popped your helpful video. Thanks for the recommendation. I like the small size and agree that gimbals are a bit of work, especially, as you mentioned, when you want to change lenses and need to rebalance them. I like the thought of popping on the ZV1 and just getting some smooth shots without a lot of hassle. So thanks for making this video!

Does the gimbal only connect to the camera via a smartphone app ie you always have to have the app connected fir the gimbal to work

Can this gimbal go in inverted mode? Will be using a GoPro H9. Little worried it can’t as there’s no information online and a few having issues with it. Would be attaching a long selfie stick and holding it low to the ground for skating

The only problem is the monitor goes dark once it's hooked up to the gimbal. Not sure if there's a workaround

I just got both of the two. One issue I noticed is zv-1 needs to be taken off from m2 to change the battery, moreover it needs to rebalance since the location of the screw is changed. Anybody has the same?

Along with shooting video, did you try taking photos on zv1 attached to crane m2 gimbal... if you make a video for this feature it will be very helpful
Hey I don’t really use the ZV1 for photos however I did take a couple in Cornwall. I wouldn’t recommend using a gimbal for photos as when you press down on the shutter button it messes with the gimbals motors. It would be best to use a normal tripod. Hope this helps.

Hey Luke I'm afraid we have not got our hands on a Canon M6 to try out, however the M5 worked fine so I think the M6 would be good with it.

Hey Steve, yes the M2 can control the zoom on the ZV1, I think due to the lightweight of the camera when you do mean it doesn’t seem to affect the gimbal much at all

How in the world are people able to connect their crane m2 to the zv-1? I watched numerous videos and still haven't been able to connect to my zv1. i could connect from my phone to the zhiyun app, but i couldn't connect from the zhiyun app to the sony zv1 camera (using the qr code or type in the password manually). what else could i be doing wrong here?
I figured out it doesn't support a Samsung note 20 ultra. I was able to get it to work easily with the iPhone 12 pro.
I got the Craine M2 with the Sony ZV-1 too; everything works, all buttons etc., but I cannot take photos with pressing the red button twice as described in the manual. Does taking photos work with the craine M2 for you?
On the Crane-M2 Camera Compatibility List on their website, taking photo with the ZV-1 is not listed as an option

I've ordered this gimbal for my ZV-1, but now I'm not sure if it's possible to pair it to the ZV-1 to allow the remote control - zoom, starting video etc. Can you confirm if it works?

I've been looking at ZV-1 footage today as I've just ordered one, I'm noticing a lot of juddery panning, is this just a CZcams thing or is it actually in-camera?
Hey ours seems ok to be honest I would just check the frame rate looks right. We've got another Zv-1 video going up next week with some more footage and a variable ND filter we've hacked onto it, so keep a look out for that.
Dont hope too much stabilization in this kind of cameras, because are not action cam. Wtih active option u will have the best stabilzation
Do you have to balance your Sony ZV1 with the gimbal or does the gimbal do it for you automatically? I noticed you said once it’s balanced you don’t have to keep balancing it anymore when you take it off and put it back on. I want to put the camera on the gimbal and have the gimbal balance itself.
Hey yes you do have to balance yourself, which is a shame, I'd pay a lot of money for a self balancing gimbal

Hi, so you put it into V mode, face the angle down and forward then hold the joystick to the left or right so it can do a full 360 spin. Hope this helps.

@@pi11sburydoeboy hey. So there are a few things I like about the G6 Max. First, it feels premium and quite sexy. Not sure how quality compares to M2 as I've never used M2. I felt like the price was very good indeed. In my country the G6 Max is cheaper than Crane M2. I like how it works and it seems very versatile, only issue is that its not fully compatible with my camera and I don't know if they ever will update the firmware. When I first used it there seemed to be a slight constant drift on it but that has gone away after a few calibrations. Overall if you can get it for a good price (official store sale or aliexpress) it's good value. Only issue with getting from those stores is that the return policy isn't as good if you find that you don't like it.

If you had a choice and you already have a crane M2 gimbal....Would you purchase the Zv1 or would you purchase a larger gimbal Weebill S or Ronin SC to use with Canon and Nikon mirrorless cameras?
Hey great question... I think for the ZV1 I’d go for the Crane M2 as I love the small size.. Any bigger camera and I’d go for the Ronin SC

I don’t think so, annoyingly the audio input is on the right hand side!

Can you please check this and confim it is or is not possible as I believe the audio jack input is the jack at the very top so it should just fit and this means maybe the second and third port down which is the mini HDMI and USB will not fit, so no remote charging possible??

Hey Roman, so the ZV1 has a strange manual focus where you do it with the controller on the back so it is possible, however I find Autofocus is so good on this camera, I tend to leave it on Autofocus

*Just bought this Myself after selling my Ronin SC-1 because it was too big a Gimbal for my a6400 and ZV-1 & I LOVE this Gimbal I made an Unboxing Vid of this and I'm looking forward to talking a bit more about it in my Next Video. But Absolutely LOVE this Gimbal and how easy it is to balance it Once I figured out you needed to have it powered on to Balance it Correctly.*

it blocks the USB charging slot. for me most of the time im charging the phone with external battery while shooting.
Yes that’s a great point! One thing I didn’t like but it’s mainly the ZV1 as most camera have it on the other side

To be honest the iPhone 12 is so stable I don’t think you need a gimbal for it!

the zv1 is a photo and video camera, with 1¨sensor, 1.8 aperture, the iphone is only a smartphone
I've been trying to learn how to calibrate my zv-1 with the crane m2 and it's been driving be bonkers. Also seem unable to sync the gimbal to my camera... Any advice for a novice?
Hey you need to make sure it is properly balanced. I would recommend checking out a video our channel where we show how to balance a gimbal.

I dont believe this. I bought it and tried. It kept wayy much shake even when just walking down a regular path in the woods. Its not at all as good as showin in this "running on rocks" example.
