    Thank you for this info. I would like to add, coconut oil is a comedogenic, which means that it tends to cause blackheads by blocking the pores of the skin. This does not mean that all skin types and conditions will be affected the same. For some reason, perhaps due to genetic make-up, some of us do not get blockage from coconut oil base skin care products. However, I would recommend against using any products with such tendencies, especially after Dermaplaning and Microneedling. Why is this important? After a microneedling treatment your skin is vulnerable. Please be mindful that after this procedure your skin becomes a sponge. Best to not use any type of cleansers the first 24 to 72 hours. Only a sterile gauze and cool bottled water, preferably distilled bottled water. Then apply a moisturizing serum or lotion carefully crafted for treatments like microneedling after care and top with a quality sunscreen protectant. Speak to your Esthetician or Dermatologist for what is best for your skin type and skin condition. What is not being said here is, aftercare is to prevent skin damage. If not properly treated, you may cause further dehydration (scaly skin appearance) and more pronounced fine lines or hyperpigmentation issues that will not be treatable, just to mention a few. Think about it. Take charge of your skin, it is the only one you'll ever have. Good luck!

    I have done microneedling at 2 different places and both of them gave me different after care advices...The first one said, no retinol, no vitamin c. The other one said the total different. She meant now is the time for these active ingredients to really be able to penetrate deep into the skin. And she also said to avoid oils, ceramides cos that somehow blocked the process in the skin. What is your thoughts about all this? I dont know what to belive to be honest...Thank you in advance!

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Před 5 lety +5

      Hi Maria! I have watched a lot of experts speak about this topic and read many after care pamphlets from offices, but I am not an estetician. I will try to help though! Many (or most) places will say to wait at least 3 days before using an active ingredient like retin A or vitamin C (some places being more careful will say to wait 5 days or until your skin is no longer pink). I know you are not supposed to use oils on the day of the treatment itself. I've also heard some experts state that you can resume your normal skincare after 1 day! So, it is very very confusing! I think they are all just trying to avoid you from having irritation or problems, where they could get in trouble, or have issues and need to help you further. Personally, I think ceramides are incredible for the skin and if you have a product that has pure, good ingredients, I would think it would be good to use once you resume normal skincare.
      I think if you were to use retinol or vitamin C, shortly after needling, you will probably have peeling and you may have stronger positive results once the peeling stops. But, I think most people are trying to avoid having their clients dealing with irritation. Some people can handle it (their skin can handle it) and others might get upset if their skin gets irritated or inflamed. I think it is entirely up to you, what you decide to do, depending on what you want to have happen. I personally don't think it's a good idea to use any actives the day of the treatment - just hyaluronic acid serum. I just did a little microneedling yesterday and even today my skin is burning when I put products on it. So, if I were to use anything with Vitamin C or retinol, I will have redness, burning and peeling a lot. My skin has just been irritated lately though. So, I need to wait a few days or more. So, I think it's important to gauge how your skin is doing and what you want to do. If you don't mind peeling and you want a deeper exfoliation and your skin is fine after a couple of days, I would think it would be up to you to try that retinol or vitamin C if you want to (just know that you will probably peel). If you really wanted to do it sooner, for me I would wait until at least the day after the treatment. I am sorry I don't have a better answer but I think it's your choice and up to you and what you want to get out of the treatment. For me, I have accidentally used an some active ingredients a couple of times the day of microneedling and my skin got irritated right after needling (but it was ok, just peeling and dry and sore) and then it peeled for a couple of days and then my skin looked great. :) I will do more research on this to see if any experts prefer to use this stuff with the actual treatment. :)

    Hi, I would like to know how far from a peel (TCA or Glycolic) do you proceed microneedling ? Hope this is understandable haha I am French and this question was tough for me. Thanks for your videos ❤️

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Marguax. I plan to do a video on this or put it on my website as a cheat sheet because people have been asking me this A LOT! I will try to help. This is based on extensive research and what the experts recommend. If you do a TCA peel, you should generally wait for the peeling to be completed & then one week later, it is fine to do microneedling. If you do a much milder superficial peel (like a lower strength glyclolic acid) then most people with normal skin should be fine in a few days, to do microneedling. After microneeding, it's a good idea to wait about 10 days before doing a TCA peel. Some people (without sensitive skin) can do a glycolic peel a bit sooner than that, 5-7 days (sometimes sooner). Also, for retinoids, It is best for you to stop using your retinoid product at least 5 days before your microneedling treatment. After microneedling, you can use your retinoid product about 5 days later.

      287KatieBug, I am so very sorry for not replying sooner. How is it going with the needling? Dermarolling is a bit different than microneedling with a pen. When I used to dermaroll, I would use ingredients like those you mentioned and oils too. If you were to microneedle with a pen, then you need to be more careful. I haven't done dermarolling in a long time and need a bit of a refresher as I am not sure if oils are still advised to be used after or ok, etc. So, I think this video might help: czcams.com/video/DpO_cJCXAMM/video.html as Gin Amber is a total expert with the rollers.

    dont the Vitamics ( C and other) have like magnifying effect directly after derma rolling? as they say they penetrate 10 times faster and deeper? but what you said just confused me, yes avoid chemical based stuff but one of the purpose if derma rolling is to have a deeper effect of vitamins and serums?
    confused.

      @LifeDIY  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Crypto Life, sorry for not replying sooner. I get what you are saying. When I used to do derma rolling - I would use almost any products afterwards and it was fine as the rolling wasn't as deep as it is with the Dr. Pen or microneedling pen. If you go to a clinic or office setting to get needling done with a pen, they sometimes use a peptide-type serum afterwards - or sell it to you to use. Those products are usually pretty pricey and often designed specifically for use after needling with a pen. They make sure the ingredients are as safe as possible. Most people doing this at home, are often just recommended to use hyaluronic serum and it is mostly to be safe - so you don't create any skin issues or irritation or problems. But, vitamin C, in particular, is usually not recommended right after doing a treatment as it is an acid and could cause a ton of irritation. Basically, it is totally up to you if you think your skin can handle certain products after microneedling. I did a microneedling treatment a few days ago and on day 2 after the treatment I decided to use a non-acid non-irritating (so I thought) product that had a bunch of great skin ingredients. My skin felt like it was on fire and got super irritated and inflamed, so I washed it off. Prior to putting it on, I thought my skin was calmed down enough from the needling the day before but it wasn't.Normally I wait a few days up to four days before resuming regular skincare products. So, I mostly use hyaluronic for the first few days after. I'm not sure if I answered your question, but overall many doctors avoid those products just to avoid possible problems. The skin is so sensitive for the first few days after a treatment - if the treatment is done with a microneedling pen.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Před 4 lety +1

      Also one last thing - I think many people do use these great ingredients while doing a lower depth session with a microneedling pen with nano needles. But anything with active ingredients could possibly irritate the skin.

      Yes when i apply vitamin c directly after derma rolling it causes a burning sensation, but it goes away like in an hour so i kept applying it to have an enhanced effect.

    Hi 🙂
    What’s the difference between Cos De Baha and Timeless HA Serums?
    When I looked ingredient lists online they looked pretty similar?
    And both are fragrance free HMW HA Serums.
    I know, Penn (Smith) recommend Cos De Baha, but they don’t ship to my county :/
    It’s frustrating, that most companies don’t tell, what molecular weight HA they are using.
    And nowadays most of them use multi/low molecular weight HAs, but when microneedling
    (esp. with 0.5 or bigger needless) we should only use non inflammatory High Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid Serums, like Penn said 😘

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Před 4 lety

      Hey Mari,
      Good question! I need to take some time to research this. I think they are pretty similar but I don't know about the molecular weight of the Timeless one. A lot of people like that one as well. Does that one ship to your country? :) I will try to do more research on this. PS - I did find out that the Timeless one is low molecular weight. I was trying to find one other than Cos De Baha that is high molecular weight, but haven't been able to find one yet. I will keep searching.

    • @mari22
      @mari22 Před 4 lety

      Life & DIY Yes, Timeless ships even to my country, and when I looked Cos De Baha ingredients from Amazon, there was almost identical ingredients between those two.
      But when I finally found the own web site of Cos De Baha there was different inci! So the real difference is, that Timeless HA has two not so good (at least for dermarolling) ingredients; Benzyl alcohol and Dehydratic Acid, but Cos De Baha has just 1,2 -Hexanediol, even if both have just water + 1% HMW HA.
      So was super glad, when I found out, that their own site ships to Finland too 😆
      The only down side is, that shipping takes so much time from Korea 😖 But usually it’s still worth it, because of my dry, sensitive skin loves hydrating Korean skin care routine & products!!
      Do you have any K-Beauty faves 💙?

    I always use a panthenol cream after the microneedling session because it helps with the "burning" sensation as it's really moisturizing. Should I avoid doing this? From what I read, dexpanthenol has some anti-inflamatory properties... or do you think it's fine?

      Honestly, I've used things I wasn't supposed to on my skin - during and after microneedling. For example, avocado oil, snail serum and some other products. Thankfully I did that when I wasn't using a microneedling pen and I used a roller, lightly. I was lucky I had no problems. But now I am only using Hyaluronic acid and I would use PRP (Platelet rich plasma) if I had it. I found this article that might help you: barefacedtruth.com/2014/10/21/cosmeceuticals-applied-skin-microneedling-safety-efficacy-restoration-sanity/. I did some research trying to learn more about Panthenol and it seems like a good, natural type ingredient. I found that some clinics where people have had the procedure, recommended a type of cream after the procedure and it contained a small amount of panthenol. But, I have also read that it is better to use only products that are somewhat natural - ie: hyaluronic. I'm sorry I don't have a definitive answer but I will try to find out - I will keep researching.

    • @LifeDIY

      Also, I was reading a medical journal which shared a few case studies of people having delayed immunological reactions to certain products during and right after treatments. It said in their conclusion "The use of topical products in conjunction with microneedling needs to be regulated and limited to products approved for intradermal injection in humans." The medical information and problems they endured as delayed immunological responses occurred, made me think it is really best to be safe and use the most minimal products necessary. The most basic one that people recommend is hyaluronic serum. For me, I wouldn't risk it.

THEN you can apply more of the hyaluronic acid serum to face and let it sit/beging healing with very little contact of the face and exposure to sun for at least 24 hours? Thanks just wondering how to manage the first 1-24 hours after process.

    • @LifeDIY

      Thanks for your question! I personally keep the hyaluronic acid serum on my face from the treatment time. Then, my skin usually feels weird and inflamed for sometimes a few hours after, and I don't wash it with soap then. If the texture of my skin is gross from the hyaluronic serum, I will wash my face with some water and that's all. If my face is sore or irritated, I sometimes just use a spray bottle with water and spray it on my face (the first few hours after the treatment). Something like 12 hours after the treatment, I would be ok with gently washing the face with some mild soap (I like Kirk's Castile soap for this), but otherwise I may just rinse it with water. I think many doctors have stated that after 12 hours, it's safe as the channels or holes should be closed up.

    What moisturizer do you use?? Just hyluranic acid(sorry don’t know how to spell it lmao) and do you think grape seed oil would b a good moisturizer(I use that normally) or will oil kinda make your skin burn? If so maybe Cetaphil? also when can you go back to your normal skincare routine and exfoliate or use harsher products

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Tawny, To be extra safe - after doing a lot of research on this, now I only use Hyaluronic acid serum during the treatment. I have used other things in the past and a little oil also but I have been advised not to - though it's good I had no bad reactions, it is not supposed to actually help if used. I know that seems weird because you probably normally use the grape seed oil and it is great, but for this treatment you should just wait a few days or more before using it again - once your skin feels less sore and more getting back to normal. Your skin will be sensitive and may burn or tingle a little for the first day to three days. I Just did a treatment about a week ago and on day 3 I felt fine to use some of my other more normal moisturizers. I prefer to keep using the hyaluronic, then adding avocado oil and I have this other peptide serum I got from MakeupArtistsChoice which I started to use after day 3. Some people recommend waiting for about 5 days before going back to normal completely. Definitely nothing harsh and no major exfoliation for about five days. I hope this helps!

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Před 5 lety

      Also one more thing - since I didn't fully answer your question. Once it's safe to do and my skin is returning to normal after a few or more days, I use the things I mentioned above but if my skin is extra dry then I also use other moisturizers. The ones I currently use are: IT cosmetics facial lotion (not sure what the actual name is) but it has wonderful ingredients and First Aid Beauty Lotion - which is also not harsh at all and very moisturizing. If I felt like spending some more, my past absolute favorite moisturizer ever (I need to buy it again) is Ceramidin cream or their serum. The stuff is incredible.

      From what I've read from doctors and clinic's aftercare procedures, they say definitely to stay away from anything "active" with retinol for the first week, and also until the skin redness is gone. That's usually gone in a few days though. I do know - though it isn't recommended, that some people have used retinol in conjunction with dermaneedling. But, be prepared for lots of peeling. I did this once on accident after derma rolling years ago - wasn't paying much attention that night and put retinol (mixed with lotion - diluted) on after I did derma rolling earlier. Basically, a few days later my skin got really tight and then peeled a decent amount. The derma rolling I did at that time though was much less harsh, less severe with the roller vs. this pen.

      @@LifeDIY Thanks for sharing that information. It does make logical sense to stay away from those chemical while the skin is repair and already produce those chemicals because of the pen anyway. Thanks again. :)

      No problem, you're welcome. Do you like using the SkinMedica regimen? I should look into that too. :)

      @@LifeDIY Yes i love it tbh! I got it because it helps maintain the benefits of microneedling etc. I am a member of the Brilliant Distinctions as I get lip filler and i collect points and earn rewards with them and they sell SkinMedica and you can earn points from purchasing SkinMedica from them.

    I had a really good micro needling session yesterday and she went pretty deep because the numbing agent was really good. Today, I’m peeling like crazy and the dead skin on the face makes me look wrinkled and aged. It’s hard not to exfoliate. When can I start exfoliating

      Wow you are peeling so soon! Some people don't peel at all and for me it takes a few days or more. It is normal for the skin to look way worse the first 5 days (or slightly worse anyway). If it was a real deep session though that makes sense that it looks even worse than normal. Experts often say to wait about 4 days and until all redness and sensitivity are gone, before exfoliating or using active products again. :)

      @@LifeDIY thanks for responding. I actually used an exfoliating buffer the day after treatment which triggered my skin to start peeling in patches and it was really irritated afterwards. After I watched your video, I realized I moved to fast exfoliating and backed off. 🥺 The peeling is minimal now but this is all a learn process. ☺️

      Aww glad your skin is healing now. Definitely a learning process and I'm sure I've done the same thing in the past. I hope you get really great results!

    So can I do my normal skin care after I micro needle, the day of? I have all natural ingredient products like a green tea toner, green tea eye cream, moisturizer, and sleeping mask?

      The day of microneedling, your skin will be sore and sensitive and you may still have hyaluronic acid serum on it (which is the only thing recommended to use during and after needling). The day of the treatment, there is no need to put anything else on your face. Sometimes I spray water with my spray bottle as my face hurts and is sore. I cannot use a normal skincare product again until day 3. Some people are ok using their normal products on day 2 though - but none are recommended on the day of the treatment.

    When can you wash your face after a treatment?
