- In this video we'll talk about the film halation effect and explain what it is and why it's so important to use when imitating a film image.
At the end of the video, we will demonstrate how this can be done using Dehancer plugin, but we believe that information about its nature will be useful to every photographer or videographer, not just for those interested in film emulation, for a couple of reasons:
•Halation is much more complex and doesn't only appear around the light sources.
•Halation can make skin tones more attractive and natural.
Keep watching to learn everything about the halation effect from A to Z, and how it works in Dehancer.

thanks for the detailed explanation. I realise I've been chasing this effect digitally through blooms alone, and wondered why it was never quite complete/organic. look forward to experimenting.
On CZcams there is a video maker called Serr. He did a good tutorial on Faking 16 and 35 with grading. Helpt my Slog2 footage considerable.
Always crushing it with the knowledge!
Very informative! Is the video dedicated to the topic of "bloom" effect still coming?
thanks for the detailed explanation.
Perfect explanation
I would love to know to what extent Halation occurs when underlighting was used in film cel animation.
1:50 Alexey Balabanov not Babalanov lol
Informative
by any chance are you guys going make this plugin for fcpx in the near future?
in love with the background track!! what's it called?
Awesome!!
Great explanation! Is there any update coming soon for the halation?
Soon!
Check our website, version 4 is available for download
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Does anybody know the exact name/director of the film at 2:11? I know he says its 7 days by Levan Gorodzia but I cannot find anything by that name on the internet.
Thanks for the video, though. Learned quite a bit!
Try to search for this video - "L'ONE - 7 дней в деле (премьера фильма, 2018)". It's Levan Goroziya's (L'ONE) short film, he is a Russian singer.
Directors and Scriptwriters: Levan Goroziia & Murad Nogmov
DoP: Kirill Groshev

Brilliant!
brother I just installed it and I did not appear in my premiere because in premier
Did you contact our support team regarding the issue?
I don't think mid tone halation is a thing.
Where is the windows update guys ?!!
It's out!
Quite a lot of what you point out here as "halation" is actually flaring and scattering from the lens
We have sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject, as well as regular research on analog processes and materials in our own film lab, so we can be confident in our statements.
You can also read our research results and theoretical background if you read this article:

Of course, there are many optical effects, but we take a responsible approach to their study and emulation, especially regarding the proper differentiation between the effects occurring in the optical system and on the photographic emulsion.
@@Dehancer 12 years at Kodak’s digital imaging and VFX division . 25 years working in high end film and tv . What you are describing as halation is mainly a combination of flare and chromatic abberation , halation is a far more tiny and subtle effect on motion picture stocks than what you are indicating . I would humbly suggest that halation has a tiny contribution to the effect you are trying to simulate . Its probably not registering more than any chromatic aberation caused by the lens . And halation hasn’t been red on Kodak stock for many years . The red fringing you are highlighting is primarily down to diffraction from scattered light , the lens coatings and within the camera and lens path rather than the film pack internally halating. You can get very similar artefacts from digital motion pictures cameras as a result .
@@Dehancer czcams.com/users/shorts3oYeSPC0l0c?feature=share
Cheap digital phone camera , plenty of the red fringing and flaring effect which shouldn’t be possible by your theory . Plenty of other examples available .
1.25x speed, thank me later
x2 actually
By far the weakest part of Dehancer... to make it noticeable there is red all over EVERYTHING, and anything you do to attempt to bring it down makes it not visible at all. I contacted their support about this and they just play dumb... which explains why it isn't satisfactory in the first place, they are a circle jerk of incompetence.
Hi. Our support team has requested information from you in accordance with our protocol, but unfortunately the information wasn’t fully provided and therefore it was difficult for us to assess the problem. We understand the importance of providing top-notch customer support.
Perhaps if you provide more information on your issue, we can try to help you out once again.
@@DehancerNo the problem is you don't seen to have working fucking EYES! If you need me to show you step by step how the Halation is either too much and too all over everything or no where at all.... YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET IT. If you'd understand such a thing, IT WOULDN'T BE LIKE THAT! You really need me to show you that even though the mask has zero red lines on it the halation is on walls???? If you adjust sliders to remove it from walls, it's no longer in any highlights or ANYWHERE. Do I really need to make an hour long video teaching you that that shouldn't be like that? Hire me and I'll come give your team of incompetent boobs a talking to.
"Алексей Бабаланов" 🤦🏼♂
